I played this for my graduate school auditions when I was a student at the University of Illinois @ Urbana Champaign. This brings back such fond memories (mostly haha). I also did my MM at UNCG (not in saxophone though) but I can testify that this is a very strong performance and that NCSA is a great place to study saxophone.
Ryo Noda's pieces definitely push the limits of the horn by utilizing a lot of extended techniques. Very well played. The interpretation is enjoyable and... good job!
Absolutely beautiful performance. This is the best Mai interpretation I've heard! (Systen - Dr. Sullivan's the prof at NC School of Arts). He's awesome.
Well, you can't expect a student to play a piece composed by Ryo Noda as good as Ryo Noda himself now, can you? In my opinion it was a great performance.
Definitely too fast!It should sound meditative, like a shakuhachi (not like karate!) esp. the long notes in the beginning - listen to Ryo himself playing the piece, he really PERFORMS the story behind it ("last song before suicide") with a lot of passion AND expression!
WOW.... that was an incredible performance!

Where can I hear Noda play his own compositions? It would be a great chance to get some answers to questions I've had...
