    gg:4513120

  • Hello, great review, it helped me to decide when i was buying my a300, thanks a lot.

One of problem is that intervalometers for sony's are hard to find...

And here's the question for you, when trying to use teleconverter it says "invalid operation", i realised that other people have same problems with that, everytime i try to use it, it gives me a message "Invalid Operation"... Not that i would use it but if you know how to fix it thanks, althought i should probably ask sony team about it.

  • Is the Nikon D3100 any better then the a300?

  • I have the same camera (the a300) and the manual focus is working in live view too.

  • I have a A330 from sony. I think is similar to the A300. I wan't to make Time Lapse fotos, and for that I need a time lapse shooter. But I can't find any for this model.Do you have any sugestion?

    Thanks

  • Hello Mr Gordon, I always liked photography.

My wife gave a Sony SLR @300 two years ago, I've been practicing and watching tutorials about this camera. I have a question for you if you don't mind: could you please tell me how to send the pictures wireless to my laptop? what kind of remote and software I need? any help is appreciated in advance.

  • wats the cost of this one .....

i wanted to ask more thing. i love photography n i want to learn photography ...according to u which one is the best for a beginner .....n ya nt too costly ....

  • Comment removed

  • i got 290

  • hey sir, im just starting at photography and i wanted a sony camera,

wich one like these, do you think would be the one for me?

like i said, im just starting and want a prof. camera (:

    THANK YOU! (:

  • Is this a snapshot camera?

  • Guys, please, can anyone with enough experience or anyone pro in this field answer this question that I really need to know: Which camera brand in general do you think is the best, Sony, Nikkon, Canon, Fujitsu, or what??? I know you might be saying that depends on which camera we're trying to compare, but I'm talking in general. Because each brand has it's specific general trends and attributes. I really need to know guys what do you think, and this can be a discussion among pros who comment.

  • @VideoDocR i used minolta for 20+ years..now i use SONY..the most popular brands for pros are Nikon and canon

  • I've just bought a Sony Alpha330. and I'm totally new to DSLR cameras. What should I practice on? I'm after some scenarios where I can practice taking good shots and learn how to use my camera. thank you:)

  • I love this camera but i am switching to Nikon or possibly Canon..i dont know which one yet.

  • Hi. Wich camera would you recommend between Sony Alpha A300 and Canon EOS 1000D? It will be my first DSLR camera so what would be the best choice? thank you:)

  • i just broke my sony a300 screen dose anyone know what the price is to fix it

  • "Big Chunky Button"

why doesn't that words encourage me on this DSLR...

  • Does this CAMERA shoot VIDEO ?

  • @Imaginationallday

    no it doesnt,

why would you want it to shoot video? its a camera.

go get a cam corder if you want video.

  • @Imaginationallday

    no sorry dude

  • I have had the Canon Xt, Xti, 20d and the 30d...I am so done with Canon, so expensive to make sure that I have the shot stabilization...the alpha has it integrated in the body...image quality is not bad if not then excellent!!! lower shutter speeds are nothing since I never shoot more then 3 frames if you have the right settings. I think is a great step towards an affordable DSLR for the average user.

  • how much?

  • i like your reviews

  • hey all, i am wondering why all sales people and some photographer dislike sony alpha camera?

Alpha range camera so produce good photoes.

  • great explanation.. had this cam for a while and just love it.. really great

  • Really good review :) !

  • Im a camera newb. Are the DSLR camera the one that can take pictures non stop? Like paparazzi's' do? Haha.

  • yes any slr will do this, just has to be set to continous shooting mode :)

  • are u joking? i have a350 but it has no video like eos5 canon

  • Is there a setting on this camera that allows you to take panoramic photos????

  • no slr has a panoramic setting, you either get a wide angle lens or fisheye, or create your panaramic manually in photoshop, however its far from easy.

  • That's a lie.

  • its not a lie, there are guide lines and grid markers and ever software build into the camera that can make slight panoramic or wideangle shots, such as the nikon d300 and so on but theis doesnt allow you to create a full panoramic.

  • "however its far from easy"

  • Hi, do you know if the Sony Alpha a380 takes any HD videos??..thanks

  • No it doesn't.

  • @qwertydobe no sony photo cameras make movies

  • i just bought A330 last week... nice and very ideal for beginner.

  • thanks for the review. i`m buying my first DSLR now, and the a300 is on top of the list. this video clarified some things for me.

  • Comment removed

I mean not like viewing taken picture.

Similer to webcam. connect through USB and connect to yahoo IM video chat.. how do i use this for video ???

can any one help me ??

  • Hi im Buying My first DSLR next month and im trying to decide weather to get the Sony A300 Or the Canon 1000D wich would be best for ad entry level photographer.

  • The 1000D is abit shabby IMO.

You'll be much better of with the SONY DSLR A300.

  • IMO ive used both and the 1000d has to be the shittest SLR i have ever used, the a300 is far superior.

  • Is this a good choice for a beginner? It cost 450€, or is there a better/cheaper?

  • How much is that in Canadian Dollars. In Canada it sells for about $700 w/Lens. I got mine for about $370 it was an open boxed. I don't think you can find this anymore it's been discontinued, it's been replaced with the a330. I got mind in Late May

  • I went from a Nikon D70s and 100 to the Sony a300. Even though I consider myself as an experienced amateur, the a300 is a great camera and fill my needs.

As for those comparing whether to get the a300 or Nikon D40/60, the a300 wins hands down in my opinion

  • i just got Sony A330 last week...I was about to get this one but found out that the A300 was out of market due to new model launch by Sony....So far the camera works superb n i really like it! I think its a value for money buy!

  • Whats better? The Sony A300? or The Nikon D40? im probobly going to gt the a300 though :P

  • Great review. I will buy a camera this week and i can't choose between the A300 and Canon 1000d. Please help me, i will mostly take nature pictures because i'm going to Canada soon. Thanks

  • please get 1000d :) u'd be much more happy

  • i have choosen the Alpha 300 not the Nikon D60 because the Sony is a little bit better

  • Hey great video. I am choosing between the Nokia D60 and the Sony Alpha 300. I am kind of starting to like the Alpha a bit more. Good decision? Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

  • you mean Nikon D60.

  • I'm buying this camera tomorrow, the guy at the store told me I can use a sandisk extreme III sd card class 6, but as far as I know, it doesn't work with sd/sdhc cards. Can someone please tell me what memory card should I get?

  • It takes Compact Flash cards - please read my review at cameralabs . com for full details.

  • thanks Gordon, I should know that by now since I've read your review like a thousand times

  • @cameralabs

When I take a picture, the photo appear to be higher (vertically) than what I saw when I snapped it (through the eye or LCD). So every time I want to take a picture I have to aim the camera few inches lower so the camera will take the right frame. How can I fix that? I've had it for around a year from best buy and it is out of warranty.

  • @emdleb When composing with the viewfinder on all but the most expensive DSLRs, you won't see the entire view - there'll be a little extra strip around the outside of the viewfinder which will be captured by the sensor. So most photos will have a little bit more around the edges than you saw when composing the shot through the viewfinder. You can learn to compensate for this, or simply crop the photo later.

  • Does anyone know exactly which brand lenses are compatible with this camera? I am getting this camera by mail tomorrow and that is my only worry. Any information would be highly appreciated.

  • You can fit Sony Alpha a mount lenses. These are available from Sony, Sigma and Tamron. Also, if your prepared to buy secondhand, Monolta Dynax a mount lenses.

  • Hi, please help! Is it possible to take a picture highlighting particularly one color only? For example, the picture will be black and white but will only have red color, if some one is wearing a red color tshirt or driving a red car, the camera will only take red color, and the rest black and white, therefore just focusing on red color...is there any option in A300 to do this? or do I have to use an editing software to do this? pardon me for askin this, im very new to DSLR

  • you will need photoshop to do that ;-)

as far as i know, you can't do that on the camera. just look at some tutorials on the internet about "selective coloring"

  • thanx a lot for the reply 280ec!

  • Hi Gordon. Can you please teach me how to do that continous shuttter sound from a300. I just bought mine today and when I was testing the display from the store it just do it but When I was trying it on mine I just can't. I saw that the sales agent just set it to auto. I might be wrong. Please help. Thanks.

  • Just FYI. I think I saw that as drive mode. but I'm not sure why my camera just keep on going to image preview. Should I turn that off?

  • Look up the continuous shooting section in the manual...

  • Hi, I did find it but does it work in a low light setting?

  • Set the camera to continuous shooting by pushing the button on the top right with 3 boxes overlapping (and selecting the option with the 3 boxes overlapping)

  • Gordon: when are you reviewing the new model? the a330?

  • When Sony supply them to me!

  • Nice review, should i go for Sony A300 or

Canon EOS 450D??? I know the differences but i can't decide. Pls help me:)

  • id go with the sony camea

  • There's a new version of the A300 coming out next week, the A330.

  • this the 450D or the 1000D?

    which is best?

  • Check out the verdict page of my 1000D review at cameralabs . com...

  • yey.. i got this camera yesterday!!! hmmmm... i wish i can get the 75-300 lens... gotta wait for a sale.. ^^,

  • Damn I hate you!

  • I also recently got this camera

Next upgrade will be a 75-300mm lens. I hope I get lucky like the guy below me said because so far the cheapest non-crappy one I've seen was $250

  • the A300 has a better built quality than the D60.

The D60 price has dropped so much that leaves many questions about this model it self. Therefore, I would go for the A300. If you can pay 100$ more, I would go to A350 or Canon EOS D400.

Sony Lenses are more expensive than Nikon's or Canon's. Which is another thing to consider if you want to buy 3 or 4 additional lenses.

Other than that, A 300 or A350 are very good cameras. I had A 300 and am very happy with it.

  • but u can fit the cheaper lens from sigma or tamron with sony, isn't it?

I am sorry I am new to SLRs

  • yes you can, but Sony lenses work better with Sony camera´s. The cheaper lenses sometimes have small bugs when using.

  • got this camera... its beautiful

  • about to buy one.

  • very cool the a300 ;)

  • i have that cAMERA ! but dont knw about all its features!! T_T

  • also for me A300 is the first DSLR! great camera

    cheers from Italy

  • This is my first DSLR, and I love it. Got it at Circuit City for $400. Then I found a 75-300mm lens at Sears for $140! Now I need a flash.

  • Have this camera and love it

  • HOW DO I CHANGE MY SHUTTER SPEED??!!!

  • please help

  • Easy...set the dial to "A", and simply rotate the textured ring above the grip.

  • Hajtko,i think is turn the dial to 'S'

  • JUST GOT MINE!! its soo fuckin epic !!!

  • WOW!!! its on sale at blacks for $499!!! IM GETTING IT TOMARRO!!!

  • Great video! I LOVE this camera and bought it after nearly 6 months of research for cost, features and functionality. This is the only way to go for most DSLR users!

  • Hope so =) . I just placed my order for an a300. I already have two Minolta lenses at home. The 70-210mm F4 (beercan), and the 35-70mm F4 (baby beercan). Now I'll just have to wait for the camera body =) .

  • what you have to remember is that you are buying into a system and things like external flashes are difficult to get - Sony make 2 and Metz may do one or two. If you opt for Canon or Nikon the choices are much better.

Also noise handling on Sony DSLRs can be quite poor even at moderate ISOs. I work on RAW files from Nikons and Sony - the Nikon ones are almost always lower in noise but higher in detail.

  • i bought this one about 6 months ago and i love it!!! i did not know much about dslr when i bought mine but i thought i would get ths one because there so many canon and nikon users and i relied on sony's reputation! anyway i can really rely on this camera.

  • i just sold mines and bought a canon 30d and i love canon now but my dream is a nikon d300

  • Hi i am right now contemplating on either the d40 or the a300 should i pay abit more to get this or the d40

(I'm a first time DSLR buyer upgrading from point-and-shoot)

  • get a canon 20d you wont regret it and you can get a used one for next to nothing

  • just bought mine today and it is definatly worth it..exactly the same as a350 minus the shots per second and megapixals..i love it!

  • i think white balance preview is one of the most useful features of all the live view systems

  • I got my a300 about 2 months ago.

    I love it!

This was my first DSLR and i found it very easy to use!

The tillting screen comes in very handy.

  • i originally planned to get a Nikon D40 for a long time when i heard circuit city was closing i went there right away and the Nikon that i wanted was gone...but i got this instead and i love it....

  • i just got mine yesterday, i love it.

  • okay i have the camera its worth but it sucks cause it doesn't take videos well i haven't found the option. i need help!

  • Sadly it can't take video - at the moment, only two DSLRs can record video: the Nikon D90 and Canon 5D Mark II. Video is a pretty big deal on DSLRs, so if it had it, I would have demonstrated it in the review!

  • I bought this camera and i can tell you guys that is wearth it

  • I believe this camera will take legacy minolta lenses...is that true?

  • Yes, it will take lenses designed for the Minolta AF system.

  • would you buy this one or the Canon EOS 1000D + 18-55mm IS?

  • Mr Gordon , Do you think that it is too late to get this camera by now?

If it isn't, I might get one on February...

I keep on asking myself if I should get this or not. Hehe

    Any suggestions?

  • I wouldn't be surprised if Sony releases some new models around the PMA show timeframe in March.

  • Do you think they will release something like the A300 and A350 or something like the A700 and the A900?

  • No idea I'm afraid.

  • Afraid?

    Haha... Afraid of what? -.-"

  • Yay,I'm back and I bought this camera before...let's say 3 months ago and it's a great camera, really, very nice images,I do stock photograph and by now it's doing his job preeetty good:)

  • is there any why to get a camera donation threw any camera companies for college photography class do u know

i already wrote a letter to nikon and im still waiting to hear back

  • Sorry, not that I know of. You'd need to contact their sponsorship departments and try your luck.

  • do u get to keep the cameras? and do u ever give them away?

  • Nope, they're all loans from the manufacturers and get returned.

  • Gday gordon. great review u got here.

Deciding Nikon D80 twinlens(aus$1100) between Sony A300(aus $900). Is D80 produce better quality than a300? in term of nightview, clubs, rave party etc.

  • You can compare the quality by checking the results and gallery pages of each review at cameralabs . com!

  • Got this today... brilliant camera.. and the lcd screen is good for moving at low and high angles like big crowds...

    very good quality

  • Okay, :(

  • Hello there mates. I just bought a Sony a300 camera.. but how do I record videos?

  • It doesn't record video!

  • May I ask a question?, the A200 and A300 are the same in sensor and noise, just tilting screen and live view?

  • That's correct!

  • Thanks, I am deciding over Sony a200, or Nikon D60 or Canon EOS 1000D.

  • thank you! the sony a300 is cheaper where iam.and i like the look and feel of it.

  • witch one is better the sony a300 or the nikon d40? im not sure witch one to buy. can you pleese help:)

  • Most would go for the Sony A300 over the D40because it has 10 Mpixels, built-in anti-shake, and live view with a flip out screen. But a lot depends on which looks and feels better to you in person. Check out the Best Buys section at cameralabs . com...

  • I got one of these A300 and it is a wonderful bit of kit. The live view and fold out screen make this camera ideal for low-level photos, macro or high level photography. It's available through Jessops and the staff were very helpful (as usual). It is a fantastic buy for starters and keen photographers (like me) alike. Don't bother with the Alpha 200, the Alpha 300 is a much better buy and worth the extra cost!!!

  • is it possible to connect the a300 to a notebook and see the images there instead from camera?

  • I own a D40 and I am attracted to the A300 because of its live view , so that i can take snapshot of my dog at his level. I am going to buy the tamron 28-75 /2.8 either for nikon or sony depending what camera i am keeping. Do you think it is a good idea to sell my d40 and get A300. I am going to start to invest on a lens ($350) a flash ($200) . But before that i need to make a decision nikon OR Sony.

  • Live view is a little overrated. You could always just take a shot then review it and take more.

  • It is only overrated if you personally, do not need it. It can be useful for some people.

  • This review video and a month long researching lead me to a final decision to go and get the sony dslr. I just bought it yesterday from BestBuy as a deal: for $649.99 which included the Sony a300, the 18-70mm lens and the 75-300mm lens. Wonderful quality. I am only worried using the flash which will show a shadow on my pictures. Eventually I need an external flash. Otherwise, the camera delivers a superb image.

  • true, i just got the kit, using the flash on a close-up subject will show a shadow of what i think is the end of the lens since its a semi-circular shadow, great camera still....

  • Now I have found this camera, I can't decide between it or the A200; any ideas please?

  • The quality is identical, so it depsnds if you want or need live view and the flip out screen. See the verdict of my Sony A300 review at cameralabs . com for more details on the differences, and feel free to discuss it further on the cameralabs forums...

  • i don't know what to get! 300 0r 350!

  • Depends if you really need the 14 Mpixels. Check out the verdict page of our A300 review at cameralabs . com to weigh it up...

  • do you intend in making very large posters? if not then the A200 is the one, if you need VF like me then its the A300

  • i own 1... perfect for no00b like me... ^__^

  • good review. very indepth

  • This seems to be a good camera to. Hard to make a choice!

  • I had a Canon point-and-shoot with the tilt-out and swing screen, and now have a new camera without it, and, miss it terribly, it is the most useful feature, by a long shot. If you shoot boring, eye-level photos only, then you probably don't need this feature, though. I am considering this camera because, in real practice, it is unbearable to not have a tiltable screen, once you've had one.

  • I have a Canon S3 IS digital camera, with a screen, that can tilt all over the place. It was useful then, because the viewfinder was absolute Crap! So i didn't really have a choice to use the Viewfinder. When i made the upgrade to the Digital SLR, live view wasn't an option, which i didn't mind, so i had to use the Viewfinder, which i would use anyway. A heavy digital SLR at Arm's lenght, doesn't seem very practical- It could be useful to you, but not necessary for me. I'm sure you'll love it :)

  • In the UK this camera was made for jessops. Its not actually on the sony site. I just found that out. Quite interesting lol.

  • will u recommend buyers to buy this sony alpha 350? what are the pros and cons? if we were to compare it with a canon 450D,which will work best?

  • Check out the verdict pages of our Canon 450D, Sony A300 and Sony A350 reviews at Cameralabs . com to compare their pros and cons!

  • great reviev!

    5/5

  • OK I had a question. Can we get the camera to open its shutter for a long time if we hold the capture button? I mean not like a burst shot. But just the shutter open for whatever time the capture button is pressed.

    Thanx

  • yes you can do that, well obviously you can just set a slow shutter speed but I think you mean the "bulb" mode on the camera when as long as ;you hold the shutter button, the shutter stays open

  • Oh! Thats neat! Thank you for your answer =)

    Your help is appreciated =)

  • cool

  • Can anyone advise me as to what us better. The Sony A300 or the Nikon D60

  • Rude X(

  • GUD WORK

  • also when you zoom on live view do u still zoom by turning the lens still or by buttons on the camera? can you zoom the same distance on live view and normal view

    cheers

  • Yes,you zoom by turning the lens and it is pretty much the same view from OVF or LV

  • There is a magnifying button for 1.4 or 2X that ony works with live view.

  • can the flip screen be used with live view

  • Hi, you can find out everything you need to know about Live View on the Sony Alphas by reading our full reviews of them at cameralabs . com. There's direct links to the right of the video windows.

  • Yes

  • I have this camera. I really enjoy it.
