  • I miss this kind of Duncanville. The marching style from 2008 and before was just awesome, it looked so good. Also miss the unis. And the kind of shows you guys did, I miss. Especially in 2006, that was a beast of a show. 2010 was very good, but I just felt it wasn't Duncanville anymore. Please go back!!

-Coppell Band member who likes Duncanville :) -

  • We played music from Copland that year too and made it to state, but not like this. We are only a 3A band.

  • How many members? Music is amazing!

  • messed up on inner holes and i noticed tht people were out of step the color gaurd needs to get better on there timeing i noticed tht at one piont a few flags wern't put down at the same time while all the others were, good arcs, good sound, they could still do better on inner holes. im with the Mt. Whitney High School Pionner Pride Band in Visalia California and these are some comments i will make to fellow bands. thank you sincerly; Mt. whitney Pioneer Pride Band

  • no offense, this show just isnt entertaining. If you dont know the songs, you can barely hint upon what the show might be hinting at. It's really unexciting. However, sound is amazing, and it is huge. But it just lacks "flair" and "excitement"

  • @killwill07 While I agree that one aspect of a marching band is entertainment it's not the ultimate goal. I think music education is. With that comes exposing students and others to a broad range of quality music, familiar or unfamiliar. I don't think the musical selections speak poorly on the directors but rather on the state of the audience of classical music. Copland's music deserves to be well known and common. If you only listen to things you know, then why ever turn on a radio?

  • @pedroesteban86 thats a good point. I'm all for diverse music, i dont listen to radio often at all. I would rather have classical music over a lot of the music nowadays, no doubt. But a flaw in the plan of "using marching band as a goal to spread music education" is that it's really hard to take interest in a show like this. I'm not as much speaking poorly about the directors, as much as their value in the entertainment side of marching band. Its a great achievement, but not that fun to watch.

  • Robert Frost YEAH!!!!!

  • Although I hate to admit, I can see why these guys could have beat us in '08. Brass sound quality is very symphonic and the chords are amazing. Can't wait to see what you guys are doing this year.

  • i love this performance it always makes me tear up

  • They must have been influenced by the Cadets with all that talking.

  • @Lchsmb2009 Thank you, if your show has a theme, not everybody is intelligent enough to get it just by the music and drill.

  • @Ghettodued i believe that your theme NEEDS to be known by the audience, it shouldnt be a guessing game...of course your band/close follower know...but you should be able to go across country, and have people realize what a cool show it is, because of the drill, music, which SHOULD relate to the theme

  • @Lchsmb2009 Unfortunately, props have completely taken out the "marching" out of Marching Band. Not only are used used for decor, but (I believe) they are used as a distraction. and this is STATE. not BOA..there are no general effect judging. so lets get it right..

  • i wish my band was this big, we have 123 members and we are pretty good but not this good. How many people are there in this band?

  • @NWbandgeek My band is small too. DO you have a link to your bands video?

  • Definitely did not deserve 6th place. That was from some college judge in the West Coast--can you imagine??? This band even had great dynamics thoughout the show, unlike the others! The organ-like, balanced chords were amazing in the dome! They marched pretty darn well too! They definitely had my first place vote. This is one of the best shows I have ever seen. Musically they were unmatched in the contest. The Barber was quite amazing and I was stunned at how well this show was executed

  • Comment removed

  • That deserves better than a 6th place vote. The judges complained about a trombone going "superman" during the show and trying to carry the entire section. now, i personally could sorta hear it, but it wasnt bad enough to give a 10th place music score.

we will win this year. 1st place. DHS Pride

  • amen about the props. you shouldnt need props to win.

i also hate bands that use audio recordings too >:(

and im about to slap the nucka who makes fun of poor schools.

we do all the work alone, just us and our three band directors, we dont hire people to teach us our shows. its 100% us, and we take pride in it.

  • band geeks lmao

  • @hawker445 Fuck off

  • the auxilary look like ninjas lol

  • well excuse me for haveing a form of autism

  • That was the most amazing marching band performance I've ever seen. The ending sounded like A really good drum corp.

  • i hate it when marching band put speeches into their performance

  • @knifenewbie456 Agreed. Leave that to real drum corps.

  • @knifenewbie456 i hate it when bands use props..

  • amazing amazing AMAZING!!!!!

  • Thank you Duncanville for not using props like the other gay schools...That is why I love you guys and have since I was in the 2nd grade...

  • When I was in High School we got yall 1 time in a contest due to rain, and I remember our director saying he wanted to march, but was out voted and that yall would have beat us. I have nothing but respect for the tradition and abiltiy of the performers that DHS puts out there every year, fantastic program, and fantastic people, best of luck and look forward to Area when I get to see yall perform again

  • Very good. and the Flag Girls did well too. I would have liked to see some releases of the flags though....to help up the difficulty.

  • Oh my gosh,.. they are so big

  • i hate marching holes D:

  • This is horrible camera work! Why do we need to have half of the screen showing the back bleachers? Nice quote from '85 Troopers!

  • it called marching band not speach team

  • @mullensax55 You are just mad that the speech team wouldn't take you since you can't spell "speach". Good try though.

  • @pedroesteban86 He's also mad this band probably beat his ;)

  • @mullensax55 Its something diffrent rather than a drumline start at the beggining

  • man that playing just gave me chills

  • 23,000 hits?!?!?! Wow

  • i go to Jack C Hays High school and we got 10th place in finals at state last year

  • wooww. the intro was like "this i believe" from the cadets show.IF you copied that idea (notice i said IF) then you guys are wannabes.I go to dulles high school where we aim for state but if we dont make it, we take pride in the fact we did our best.

  • @fartguy1172 I don't think that was the intention. Anyway, most things, 'new ideas', etc. that are done today have all been done before. Just look at some of the 'new' films that come out in theaters . I know for a fact that Duncanville takes pride in what they do. Whether or not a few judges rank them first or 6th is irrelevant. Kudos on taking the same view point.

  • @fartguy1172 Alot of high school marching bands copy world class drum corps. Ive seen some rip the name of the show, and the music.

  • @flight454 We did the same thing this year, We used the cadets West Side Story show. We got 1st in music haha

  • Wow u guys r great but I had to cut it short cuz my ears couldn't stand it not because of the band but the alamodome man the aoustics r horrible! Uil should move the state competition elsewhere,

  • @3869javier I concur with that statement very much so. It's rather difficult staying in step when you hear a bass or snare drum reverberating throughout the dome it's just redundant and unnecessary

  • beginning statement drill is the same as the Cavies 2005 opening statement

  • watching this never gets old.....still cant believe 6th i bet the judges were more focused on props oh well XD

  • Great show, Great show, Great show!

  • i just wish they didn't try the whole talking during the show thing. only the cadets can pull that off.

  • Good lord that's a big band

  • Um, I don't think so. Different arrangements for one and Friendswood's sound and timbre are not even close to Duncanville. F-wood did very well, but you can't compare what they did this year to D-ville 2008. Not even close. D-ville's show was quite amazing.

  • the piece by barber seemed to have better effect in Friendswoods show.... Duncanville sounds better ya... they got 100 more marching but there was no woodwind technique runs to complimate the Chordal progression......

  • @smusic5333 F-wood, not a good nickname for a town... sounds like your telling someone to go do something.... lol

  • McVey...Don't be comparing Friendswood to Duncanville....

  • The musical skills of this band are unmatched.

  • I deffinately agree.... Our 2008 show is no doubt 10 times better than this years... But it's our music scores make up for.. Sound is AMAZING I wish I could say the same for our marching.. But it's a work in progress. I still love my band :) and I can't wait for state next year

  • just a wonderful brass quality and sonority. Clean snare also. I am not the biggest fan of narrated marching band shows... leave that for colorguard/winterguard/winterdrumline...

  • If I never moved, I'd be in this band,

    Sounds great

Ya'll totally deserve better than 6th

  • this is great i freakin wish the band i was in would do this but our director took us out of competitions

  • omg i still know the whole routine to this..:( too bad we got freakin 6th place. I still love it.

  • I love this!! :)

  • It's been five years since I left Texas. I forgot how great D'ville is. There are some fine bands here, but that sound is unmistakeable.

  • It's amazing how you guys keep your intervals so clean, and your brass section sounds awesome!

  • Those are some of the BEASTIEST intervals i've seen! Holy bajeezus that's good. The band ain't too bad either.. ;) Plus the lighting speed steps! O.o kudos to you guys

  • sweet baby jesus!! i don't know how you came in 6th!! the high brass is amazing!! kind of reminds me of the cavies. pure marching, great balance, NO PROPS!!! you don't need them if you have a great show.

  • This just amazes me. I'm in our current show right now, but I can't decide if this one's better, TPTS ROCK!!!!!

  • This was an amazing show to play in. I was so lucky to be in it. I miss high school band. All the bands at state that year were very good.

  • we kicked ass last year at state. if it hadn't been for one judge giving us a ten (as compared to the other music judge who gave us a one. wtf?) we would have placed higher than sixth, but we know how well we did and thats what matters.

  • was fanfare for the common man an addition to this?

I can literally hear the melody around the end and it sounds awesome!

  • The melody for Fanfare for the Common Man originated from Copland's Symphony #3.

  • Man, I wish there was some way to put this on my ipod so I could watch it all the time...my favorite show ever

  • the beginning was epic

  • Dude my whole school is about the size of dat band

  • im now playin in this band this year. and its grown to 350 people. not all of them are on the field. its huge. but we are awesome. and last year was one of our bad years.

  • What section are you in?

  • thats entirely 2 many mutha fukaz

  • lmao right?? i agree.

  • dats lik ma whole skool

  • yea well tell it to my brother.... If he went down anymore then it would just be completely black. at the Alamo Dome from the second level where he was videoing there is a huge obstruction right in the center.

  • thanks, my mistake not realizing this was the alamo dome... eek, yeah, it really sucks

  • @dylbobtboner But I love looking at the architecture of the place

  • haha that had to have been our best performance of the show all year

  • lol I love the little black dancing dots.

  • our band got last.....

and it was our best show the entire year.

we lost to our rival school.

    because they had "PROPS"

    we didn't.

our band isn't rich we can't afford fancy uniforms. our tubas are older than our school founded in 1957 according to my dad whos the band booster president and trying to get them replaced.

our colorguard had no teacher and we drove there in regular school buses from corpus christi. apperently for ALL the out of town games we'll be in school buses

  • What band from Corpus Christi?

  • keep strong, yall are very strong for enduring with no funds...refered to "crazitaco"

  • Yuu guys are amazing!!!!!

  • OMG Duncunville should be 6A...they're massive.

  • lol that year Allen HS had 300 fielded

  • we only have 300 kids

  • What's the age range for high schools in the states?

  • some studends turn 19 before the year ends, but during marching season i would say most are ages 15-18

  • i didnt like the last 3 notes

  • I was in that show!!

  • this was a great performance

  • im in tha duncanville band

  • Man, one thing I wish they would've done is made just one form small...There's nothing in the world to compare to a huge band fit within about 40 yards...One step spacing gets incredibly effective once you reach about 70 members, so I would love to see 300 hundred at 1 step...

  • well you're in luck because in 2001 we did just that. probably less than 1 step. everyone just crammed into the middle in a huge circle. search for "2001 - Duncanville High School Marching Band"

  • I am from Cedar Park High School, and I would just like to say I am amazed out how this show got 6th...It blows my mind. There is no doubt that you should have been in the top three. You have far more talent than coppell, and you were better than us for sure. I am sorry that you got jacked, this is an amazing show.

  • Darneil White!

    SHUT UP!!!!

Bands would be so happy to place 6th out of hundreds and all you're doing is complaining!! Putting down other bands like Coppell isn't going to change the outcome of the competition. We tried our hardest and 6th place is what we got. SUCK IT UP and just try harder next time...

  • Hey it's your opinion who you think was better, but you have no right to say who or more importantly who DIDN'T deserve to be in certain spots. We at Coppell worked just as hard as anyone else who made it to state finals. It's just immature to put down an entire program like that. I liked both Duncanville and Cedar Park's shows, but it's not what what we think the placement should be that matters.

  • Snare owns this shit! God, i love drums

  • yeah, i think there's 300 plus on the field, thanks though

  • Nice performance. Where was this - looks like it might be the Alamodome, but doesn't quite seem like it.

  • it is

  • I would rename it BitterDncr87!

  • The top had two layers, the top layer being blue on one side and yellow on the other. when troi, the guard captain, had to change it, she pulled down the top layer, revealing the yellow side of the top layer and the yellow on the bottom layer. I hope at least some of that made sense

  • AWESOME. I miss being in marching band :(

  • damn thats amazing.

  • thanks guys 4 ur Comments well I march at Dville and I'm a sophomore, my Fav part by far is at 7:10 to the end of the show best ever. and to Marine Buglar this was a pretty hard show so don't get me started ok? I can probably speak for every last one of us and say that we put our time sweat and heart into that show. so yeah

  • I think Duncanville looks great ,amazing ....french Hord looks and sound amazing..the judges sucks.3 time chap only band in Texas to hold that title.Duncanville dont do props, dont need them to make up band members

  • no interesting drill moves. good sound though.

  • yea the narration could could have been dropped. The band is already amazing. The music narrated itself. It's a big difference oh hearing 200+ people rather than 43 like my band lol.

  • I don't think that the show could have possibly made any sense without the narration. It definitely held the theme together.

  • I agree. I'm not a fan of the narration but it seems to be the growing trend now days. The music was still really amazing though and speaks so much more than any narration ever could.

  • I go to desoto high school which isnt that far from duncanville and all I have to say is screww desoto its duncanville all the way when it comes to band!!! Oh btw Im on desoto color guard so I think I know.

  • highsteppers?

  • i think he/she means colorguard

  • or whatever their drill team that acts like a colorguard is called

  • Duncanville calls their guard the High Hats.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • yeah your going to have to go ahead and point out these highsteppers to me because I sure couldn't see them on the video, or on the field, or at any football games we performed at, or during summer and night band practices.

  • Duncanville used to incorporate high stepping. I remember we did it for effect on a company front in the 2001 Copland show. Still, you're right I didn't see any high stepping in this vid.

  • yeah my past 4 years and my brothers 4 years before mine they haven't had any, I remember seeing pictures of them in our bandhall but that was from like the '86 champs.

  • Comment removed

  • I love love love the music.

    It's fantastic and well played.

But, I'm not a big fan of the marching.

It's not what I'm used too, but I still enjoyed the show nonetheless.

  • i liked the show, but can anyone upload the berkner high school show?

  • Wow! 5:50 was one of the best sounds iv ever herd from Clarinet's in a High School marching band! Great Sound...

  • you should check out the 2002 show (in my videos) and listen to the clarinets at about 4:23 seconds

  • does anyone have Flight of the Bumble Bee?If u do can u please upload it?

  • What do you mean? Like sheet music? What instrument? Specifics?

  • i mean the show from 07

  • at 4:35 are the trumpets holding out a high D? or is the tuning just that locked in?

  • Both. There are a few holding it and the strength of the tuning lets the harmonic shine through.

  • D's are not fun in field shows. It was the last not of ours this year. I can hit one... just not after running around and playing for 8 minutes. :P

  • wait what?!?!? actually marched this time?

  • Comment removed

  • totally disagree, their shows werent much marching at all

  • Comment removed

  • I am so so sorry.

I have not been on my account for several weeks but apparently a friend of mine was using my account and talking trash to many other school bands.

    I apologize deeply.

  • I really like that, "THIS IS MY JOURNEY" then -impact intro-

  • but all the bands are still good XD

  • LD Bell...the Quest

    Duncanville...The journey

    lol

    very very nice though

  • We kicked major band booties out there. Ain't No Band Like a D'Ville Band!

  • so know what your talking about or don't say anything at all.

  • thank you thebandmusic. And fryguy wow you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. You have no respect for what all these bands work for. Every contest is different, even between prelims and finals (obviously). But it's never a contest between 2 bands. Like i think thbandmusic said earlier there are the long time big players but Marcus came out of nowhere in 04 or 06. Duncanville has been there for 30 YEARS STRAIGHT in FINALS! and has made it to state years before that!

  • okay lets face it DHS OWNS all the other bands the judges need to get their ears check! they r the best
