  • Thanks so much for uploading this video. I haven't seen these buildings since I left in 1990, and I feel a strange homesickness. Friedberg was where I spent some of the best and worst years of my life. I miss it so much. Central Studio, the Spotlight, The Joint...I could go on and on. Pillars of Thunder.

  • Man, what a head trip.

I was looking for something else and landed here.

The last time I looked at these buildings was in October, 1969.

    I was an 11E armor crewdog with C Co.3/32nd Armor, 3rd AD 1967 - 1969.

A hell of a lot has changed in the intervening 38 years.

I still miss that place, the town and the people I knew.

(However like some others I don't miss those 0200 move out alerts etc.)

Thanks for posting all of the vids you did.

Great Stuff, I'll be back once in a while just to ............

  • Wow! Well this video certainly brings back memories!

  • Thank you for posting this. I was stationed there in 85-88. Talk about your stroll down memory lane! The people of Friedberg were so hospitable. Wonderful people and a wonderful country.

  • I was stationed here from 58-60. Elvis served the same time I did, but he lived off base in Bad Nauheim. He drove his MG back and forth to base. He made rank, PFC, and passed out big cigars. To my wife's dismay, I smoked it. He was a real gentleman and a great soldier. My wife was there with me living in Friedburg. Standing on the corner at the bus stop with some other American GI's wives. Elvis would come around the corner in his MG and wave, and they would melt. Thanks for video!

  • C co 4/67. 1987-89. Go Wardogs!!!!! Sucks to see this closed

  • A 2/82FA 1987-1989

  • My time spent in 1/36 was not fun or memorable. I would not wish it on anyone. Seeing those buildings brought back alot of memories. I was stationed there in 2004. Cant say I miss it, but wouldnt trade the expereience for nothing.

  • @shyler450 I couldn't agree more! Great base...and town, as for the unit....that's another story!

  • Does anyone remember the F/sgt Allen HHQ 1-36Inf or Sgt. George Will, and Sgt. Thomas? Sgt. Will and Thomas work in the motor pool.

How about the mess Sgt. Robert Forand 1963 to 1968?

  • I loved this place so much the Barracks and town was so much fun With All my dads friends (Sgt.Jeff Herdebu)....God I would just love to visit that old place and remember everywhere I was when I was there if you know him or me please comment or like. Thank you Edward J Herdebu

  • I was in 1978-1979 only one year but enjoyed my stay. Germany was an adventure for sure. 2/27th FA 3rd Armor Division Spearhead.

  • I was there from 74-75 1/32 Armor Co. B. We were down @ the bottom of the hill by the Battilion Consolidated Mess . I remember the alerts , moving out to the FTA, hanging out waiting for the next order. It always was to stand down.

  • I was an MP at Ray(t) Barracks from 89 until 91. I remember 3 things. San Remos (fine Italian fare), launching my brand new Celica off the hill next to the Education Center, and kicking our share of ass downtown ( Blood Alley). Also paying $2 more to get your hair cut in the chair Elvis got his cut in. Good Times...

  • Thank You for helping make our stay more enjoyable in our second home. We miss the people and the place, Fussball, Bier und die Maedchen ;)

    Gruesse aus der USA

    Danke Schoen, mein Freund

  • I have 16 years play Soccer in the Ray Barracks in Friedberg in the 2-37 Company .

  • nice video .... 1-36 all the way..... Doc Love

  • So the Rock at the end was not the same Rock at KG? The Rock that had the 1st AD patch on it was still at KG when KG shut down in 97. I was confused when you said the rock was moved in early 90's. So there ended up being two rocks? Just checking for confirmation.

  • @InfantryFilmMakerDJ

The info was based on the statement made by Peter, who said the the Rock now at Ray Barracks, was the same that was located at the intersection at KG. For whatever reason, he must have been confused as to the year it was transported over to Ray Barrack. Peter Buschmaas was the Ray Barrack facility engineer from 77-08 and was present when the KG Rock was put on a flat bed and brought to Ray Barracks. He, based on the request of the then Garrison Cmdr, hired the stone mason.

  • Thanks for the videos. I was a Bandit from 95-98 and 2000-2002. Bandits do not fail those with whom they serve!

  • A lot of bitter/sweet memories when I watch this video. It really gave me a lot of closure to be honest. My time spent here was basically hell from the first day till the last day. I really appreciate the time whoever made this video. It really brought back a lot of memories. I was there from sept 2002-2005 Thanks

  • A lot of bitter/sweet memories when I watch this video. It really gave me a lot of closure to be honest. My time spent here was basically hell from the first day till the last day. I really appreciate the time whoever made this video. It really brought back a lot of memories. Thanks

  • I myeself have some bitter/sweet memeories of A 1/36th inf Bn. It is sad to see the base closed after spending so much time there. I was stationed there from Sept 202-2005, minus a 15 month deployment to iraq. Although 1/36 was probably the worst time I ever spent on this earth and wouldn't wish that on my worse enemy. Taking a ride with whoever took this video one last time gave me some closure. I really loved the little town of friedberg. I wish I could afford to make the trip on my own.

  • thank you very much for this video.i loved the music and it was done in such good taste.there from 81-84

  • A-23 4th Battalion, 32nd Armor

  • I'm a little put off how they replaced 3rd AD Spearhead with 1st AD insignias...but that was a long time ago.

  • I was stationed there 1987-1991. Young and Dumb years. I just noticed how much nicer & less cluttered german towns look than ours without all the telephone pools

  • I was there April71-june72,with the 503rd MPCo. We had Capt Freas and then Lt Benton as CO's. I think Sgt Phillips was NCO. Anyone who was there with me then,be sure and drop a note here. Thanks for the video Roadking. It brought back many memories

  • Incredible video, it brings back so many memories. I was stationed here from 1977 through 1980 with CSC 1/32 Armor, Redeye section. Stay alert, stay alive, stay Redeye!

  • I cherish this video, this use to be my home, ( 8-16-1974 to 2-15-1976 )

  • who can forget VILLA CALABRIA?

  • crazy seeing this place vacated, knowing the amount of stuff that was going on inside those walls just a few years ago. other than the part about being in the army, that was the best experience of my life the years i was living there

  • I wonder how the economy is holding in Friedberg without the troops in Ray Barracks.

    2/37 C co. 1999-2002

  • @mucasa1

I had talked with then Mayor Micheal Keller and he did anticipate some impact on the local shops, restaurants & Bars that had been frequented by us and our dependants. But he had faith that all would survive the closing of the Post and loosing all of their "Honorary Citizens"

    "Roadking"

  • @Roadking1970

Was he related to Hellen Keller?? lol j/k

I hope all goes well. We were dropping much cash in that town.

  • @mucasa1 Great video. Changed a lot since I was there in 1967 - 68. Brought back a lot of memories. I was stationed with the 3rd/32 armor.

  • @mucasa1 Friedberg is just not the same without Ray Barracks and the US Soldiers. My heart hurts everytime I drive by the main gate.

  • Dam... How much I miss Friedberg Germany. I walked those streets in 2003 to 2007. Cco 2'37 AR. If only I can turn back the hands of time I would live there again and go through every thing I went through again. SPC Merced, Felix

  • Stationed there '72-'74

  • Thanks for the video. Brought back some memories. I was stationed there from 85-88. I was in A co. 1/32 which was later re-designated as 4/67, both with the 3rd Armored Division.

  • Great video clip, it brought tears to my eyes. I was stationed in Ray Barracks. Great Americans served our country proudly in this place. Thanks again! CSM Gonzalez, A/501st FSB 1SG 2000-2005

  • I had the fortune to visit in August of 01, in May of 2004 and then for the closing of the Garrison in 2007, when I took the videos. Was stationed at Schloss Kaserne, Butzbach 70-72, 503 MP Co, 3AD, then to CIDC at IG Farben (Abrams Complex later) in Frankfurt from 72-74.

    Hoooa

  • I was one of the last guys out of there, left the 28th of july that year. Kinda sad watching this, remembering all the runs down that town street, the drunk stumbling back to the infantry barracks, the fucking bradley motorpool, Chow hall, hardrock cq,our fucking building, burger king and library and bank, the px, battalion, brigade. I miss that old town and it's people. Hard to believe our home turned into a ghost town.

  • I was in the 1/32 Armor from 63-65. B Co then HHC Worked in Battalion HQ for Lt Col William Illston. He had the idea then initiated the concept for the 'Bandits' in either 64 or 65. I con't believe how the barracks and especially the mess hall have been remodeled since I was there. They look so different. I didn't miss the place until I saw the videos. But I don't miss the middle of the night alerts! Thanks for the previlege of seeing Friedberg and Ray Barracks again.

  • Thanks!!! I was stationed here 2 years back 93 to 94 and was in the 23rd Eng Bn.... Your video goes right up the roads we use to run on!!! Brought back a lot of memories thx again Mikey/PA

  • Hi, and thanks for the looked back . i would like to say that some of your information about Elvis , is off . i was stationed at Ray barracks , from 1974 to 1976 . i was in Aco. 1/32 armor , 3rd armored division. Elvis was in our unit , Aco. 1/32 . it was a well known fact . in fact our company seamstress Katie , knew Elvis and had pictures on her office to substanciate that . also the dining hall , in our day was not called E.Presly dining hall.... the place has change though . lets talk ....

  • Thank you for posting this. My dad was stationed there from 1958 to 1962, and his rank was SFC. We lived in Bad Nauheim on Grant Avenue....14C to be exact. I was 8 when we went over and 12 when we came back, and I remember seeing Elvis playing football with his buddies and friends in the park in Bad Nauheim. Thank you again for sharing this.

  • I was with B co. 1/32 AR from 83-85. Thanks for posting this. It brings back memories.

  • I was at Ray Barracks from '72 to '75 with the 2/27 FA. Great videos. Definitely takes me back. Folks these days have no idea what we did back then. It would have been a different world, for sure, if we hadn't. I miss the place. Thank you for sharing.

  • This video gives me chills from start to finish. I absolutely loved it in Germany. Especially going downtown to the Studio (aka the Booty hole) lol and hangin' with my boys. Shane, Jason, Hugo, David, Bergman, Cook, Forsythe, Flip, Garcia, Reaver, Rod Dawg (ME), and Chris. Damn this just brings it all back at once. I loved it there and I always will. HHC 1ST BDE, 1ST AD HAMMERS!!!

1/32 AR. Bandit SCOUTS! This SCOUTS OUT!!!!!!!!!

  • Did meet some of your special OPS guys in Manama, Bahrain while I was there 90-92. I had just retired and was there as a "contractor". Learned alot from you Brits, especially that you had less rules and regs to adhere to then us Yanks. My cap off to you Brit Brothers...live long and prosper, hands across the sea and all that...

  • I was with your lads in Iraq, Bosnia and Kosovo, one thing I couldnt understand about you lads is when you go for a run in your own time you wear issue PT kit and the boys we had even did the ''squad fall out'' and your not allowed to take civvy clothes on tour. no drink, your boys loved it with us. up until the point when the MPs search our rooms for beer took what we had and banned us from drinking with you lads didnt stop them though my room was like a 1930s speak easy lol.

  • Its heart breaking going back to your old camp, i went back to my one last month in Osnabruck. Then you think of all the hard work you spent looking after the place. just to see it in shit state. heartbreaking. its shit you boys leaving as there are fewer PX's to visit for us Brits lol.

  • Sure enough, I did hook up with one of your Brits in the States, former Royal Marine, married an american gal, became a citizen, joined the US Marines, then got him a job on the Police and he retired from Metropolitan DC Police a couple of years ago. Anthony Robinson is his name and living the good life somewhere.....

  • B Co 1-36 Infantry SPARTANS!!!!

  • I just cryed so much during this video. I miss everything about that place. Even the deployment to Iraq in 2003. I have lost and loved many from Ray Barracks.

  • Thanks for the memories. I was stationed there in !962-63. Got there just after Elvis left. 3rd Armor, HQ Co. Wheel and Track mechanic. Would like to hear from anyone that was there at that time. Had some fine times in Friedberg as a very young man.;-0)

  • WMG sucks for deleting the soundtrack. Anyways, Friedberg was my home and home of Elvis. Even when I was stationed there from 1999-2001 I was hearing of bases being closed. I am glad to have been a part of history before the closings. Memories will live on forever. Thanks comrades.

  • B 1-36, 84 to 87

  • thanks for making the video, brought back good memories, D2-67, 89-92, IRON DUKES!!!

and thanks for the comments, i forgot all about the STUDIO, then again, still a bit blurry, damn tequila.hehehe

  • and wasn't the other club behind post called "the spotlight?

  • hhc2/67 ar '89-'91-maint.plt."kahunez"

  • Lived in Friedberg for 8 mths (96/97) Didn't spend time on Barracks - was student from Ireland but your drive down Kaiserstrasse has brought back so many memories. Remember walking to the Bahnhof and soliders driving by in US cars with music blasting, it felt like I was in the US not 1/2 hour from Frankfurt. Lived on Usagasse so at weekends heard soldiers on their AM runs and of course Friday nights at Studio - free for ladies back then and plenty of tequila shots. Thanx for the memories!

  • Just revisited Friedberg and went to Waynes old bar.Bad news, the new owner told me Wayne was murdered several years ago.Shot in the head and found in a room over his bar.The killer was never caught.

  • David,

Did you get to enter inside the fence on to the grounds or is it still off limits?? I heard that even though it had been turned back over to the host nation, you still can't get on the old post. I had a hell of a time arranging for my escort in 2007 when I took the videos.

    Ray

  • Ray its still off limits. The only view i got was from the train going to Rosbach. The base looks totally untouched. All the locals want the troops back not just for the economy, they really miss them. Friedberg has lost a lot of its character.

  • Thanks Dave,

I'm hoping to go back in September of this year to take some additional videos of the closed out Giessen & Budingen facilities.

  • That's what I heard also. One of my friends told me that the base looks like it has gone down hill and that the grass is over grown. That sucks that it's still off limits cause I was hoping I'd be able to take some pics next year. I miss Germany so much.

  • I was stationed there 1994-1996 with the 60th Ordnance Company. I'm planning on heading over this summer and drinking some dunkel at the Friedberger Brauhaus. Chad

  • I miss the Brauhaus so much. I especially love their jagerschnitzel. I ate at a german restaurant the other day and their jagerschnitzel wasn't very good.

  • The Brauhaus closed down a few feeks ago...

  • I apologize to all regarding the songs that I used to enhance the video. They were mostly Elvis songs, some Sinatra and Julio Iglesias singing Elviss songs. I do not know which song has violated the copy write issue. I will try to find out so I can re-post with an audio track.

    Thanks for your understanding.

Looking forward to your future videos of Giessen. Wish I had the chance to go back and visit. I know it would be depressing to see all the changes that occured. The memories are great.

  • I was stationed their from Dec.1972 to may 1975.I was in A co.1/32 Armor Bn.(Bandits).I was sadden to see the place, being closed.I met alot of good people their.I hope to go their, before they totally tear it down.Thank YOU for the memories.

  • awesome video.I was there with the Hawk Battery from Jan 67 thru Aug 69. Spent most of my time on " The Hill " manning the missle site. Looks like they turned it into a golf course. Would like to hear from other guys that spent time on 'The Hill "

  • @16894761 - Hello, I just stumbled over this beautiful video. Glad to read about all the good memories in these comments, didnt spot a single negative one about my little hometown. The golf-course you mentioned is about 1 mile south of the former missile-site, towards the town of Rosbach. Your missile-site, with most of the buildings and bunkers still existing, is now - please, take a seat! - AN ALLIGATOR-FARM! Greetings from Friedberg, Elvis-Town :D

  • This is the worst fucking shit video I've ever been unfortunate enough to witness and I hope somebody gouges my eyes out and skull fucks this image out of my goddamned head. fuck you for doing this to me you cunt!!!! Eat my ass and DIE DIE DIE!!!!! FYI, I'm also a whore and if you want some head, it will cost you atleast $5.

  • so many old memories! SPARTANS!

  • Thanks Roadking. My Dad was the Army Education Advisor, Jim Fallon, from 1961-1974 with headquarters in Friedberg and stations at Butzbach and Kirchgoens. I grew up in Bad Nauheim and Friedberg and it was great to see the kaserne again after all these years, and I will say that the beauty of military kasernes is that not too much has changed. After all those years riding in the back of my dad's car to and through Ray Barracks, your video transported me back in time. Many many thanks.

  • You are very welcome my friend, spend yesterday in Washington, DC for "Rolling Thunder" to honor my comrades who gave their ultimate for this Country.

    HoooA

  • I was stationed at Ray Barracks from 1983 - 1986. My name is Don so if you were there back then you will remember me. Let me know. Names I remember Thom, Hood, robinson, nazario. HHC 1/32nd Armor.

  • Thanks for the video. I have viewed it a number of times. I was there 1964-66 in a Hawk battery. Our missile site was out at the training area near Ockstadt and our billets were at Ray Barracks. Had lots of friends and acquaitances in 3AD. Looks like Ray Barracks expanded a good bit since the time I was there. I don't think those red buildings were there then, at least I don't remember them, but that was a long time ago for me.

  • I also at RAy was in the Hawk 6th MSL Arty Battalion left in 63

my battery clerk left inJune of "64.we still talk weekly.

    Send me an email.

Like to know your name. Was\your 1st Sargent's name Caro.

  • Wow, so desolate! I was in 4-67 in 86-89. Wardogs!!

  • I was there from 91-93 with the 23rd engineers. Why did they close the place down?? I am sorry to hear about this.

  • I've heard several different reasons on why they closed the place down. The main reasons I heard was that it was too expensive to operate and I also heard because Russia isn't a threat anymore.

  • omfg... my ex husband was stationed there, 1/36, best years of my life. I love Friedberg with a passion and miss it so. The opening of this video driving down Kaiserstrasse caused me to burst into tears. Its so hard to believe the place is now abandoned... Thank you.
