  • It's very easy :- }

  • beautiful :') what amp do you use? wow its amazing man

  • do you use any pedal?

  • Jason's clone. Way to go. Got the bass, the tone, and you play the basslines perfectly. I didn't know sad but true was that intricate on the bass.

  • holy fuck nice bass man

  • It doesn't matter really whether you use a pick or not BUT finger style is the more beneficial style. Speed and clarity is easier to achieve then verses a pick(e.g. Adam Nitti, Alex Webster, Billy Sheehan, Steve DiGiogorio, etc) and it opens up other windows such as touch style(tapping) and Slap And Pop. So it is the better way of playing but just because you use a pick doesn't make you a horrible bassist either. Great pick players include Justin Chancellor, Rex Brown, and Matt Freeman.

  • are you guys fuckin stupid or what? the only difference between using a pick and not using a pick is the sound it produces and the speed you can go at. with a pick its a little harsher with a small clickish noise, without its a quiet thud. and speedwise you can go pretty fast without but if you want to do something like the quick sequences of thuds like in AvengedSevenfolds' Nightmare use a pick, its a lot easier to add speed.

Dude you got some serious talent, keep playin, pick or not

    PEACE

  • I mean by that theory guitar players that use pick are shit since when guitar was invented it was suposed to be played with the fingers and not pick...

  • Why u use pick play not rock? Sad but true :(

  • dude i play bass to and im in a band, iv been trying to figure out jasons tone cause i fucking love it could you help me out?(like wat treble, mid, bass, ect.) please and thanx alot man

  • i want a 5 string bass when i see this 2:00 untill end

  • sweet sound

  • Muuuuito bommm...super aplicado!!!

  • Do you actually need a 5 string bass to play sad but true?

  • @AlphaDude95 no, but they drop the tuning down one step.

  • @AlphaDude95 actually yes alpha dude...needing for hitting the 3rd fret on the B string

  • you need a 5 string for Sad but True....damnit...there go my plans!

  • Is sad but true difficult?

  • Are you Jason Newsted? LOL You play like him...you have the same bass...hmmm

  • turn up the bass

  • Is the 4 string from the Metro-line or is it also NYC custom-made ?

  • COMPLIMENTI VOLEVO CHIEDERTI CHE DIFFERENZA TROVI TRA IL TUO SADOWSKY NIC 5 CORDE E IL 4 CORDE JAPAN CHE USI GRAZIE E BUONA MUSICA

  • sounds great :)

  • mmmmm.... Sadowsky... I LOVE THESE BASSES! they have a great warm tone.... yum!

  • How many Sadowskys you have?! Also, how long you been playing? :)

  • sadowsky basses are nice as hell, but expensive too. =/

  • lol you hold yur funny... but awsome caver man great job

  • jason newsteads bass he has in the whiskey in the jar video is sadowsky

  • drop the pick and use your fingers

  • @ry145 fuck you. pick sounds better. its all in the SOUND

  • @mousepad112theyre good at different things

  • nice work - solid !!!

  • hey dud where did you get that shirt man?

  • @grimaper A shop in Venice Beach.

  • @Fortunatefame Nice bro

  • bro..!

i like it your cover ..very superb and awesome ..am from malaysia bro ..:D

  • I like your T-shirt! :)

  • i don't agree, a real bass player is one who has the ability to play with fingers... but i'm saying that you're a bad bass player :) anyways congrats!

  • Youre saying he's a bad player because he is playing with a pick? You dont know what youre talking about. I play bass. I play mainly fingers but some harder songs sound much better with a pick. Let's see how great you are. Post a vid then well see how stupid you look

  • Is better to play with the fingers... like rob trujillo :D... try it... you'll be better ;)

  • except both of these songs are written for pick. fingers doesnt mean better, just different sound.

  • @stinkyloot138 and pick is almost always a better sound for heavier stuff.

  • @THEKFJ couldn't be closer to the truth. The thick attack is makes metal heavy for sure.

  • theres nothing wrong with playing with a pick, although i do think its more comfortable to play with fingers

  • Sadowsky basses have excellent tone... I want one :U

  • Now all you have to do is sell your soul and come up with the extra couple hundred bucks LOL..

  • GREAT sound.. this is the exact sound i want :P

  • playing with a Pick has a much more Metal tone to it, hense how much power Metallica had in their live performances from 88 - 93. Also the Black Album was pure Muscle.

  • I do not think so.. there are songs beeing much better played with a pic and enter sandman is one of them.. I am doing pizzicato AND Pick playing, because you must find the right sound for the right song.. John Myung for example plays metal just with finegrs.. and dream theater is fucking grat with that..

    Greetings

  • man you lucky bastard...2 Sadowsky basses...to think i live 30 minutes away from their factory

  • I also own two. :)

  • dude can u send me the tabs? btw ur awesome

  • it takes skill to play with a pick on bass , but also with fingers , personaly i use fingers

  • @ROSSYBYE that's right, I play both either and its hard. But when you play with a pick the tone is so different.

  • WTF its the same sound i love it!

  • good cover but i think is more easy whit finger play.... but awesome

  • amazing

  • dude i haz that same shirt

  • WOW!!!!!!!! i LOVE that tone dude! and great playing!!! has to be one of the best bass covers i've seen on youtube!!!

  • Whats wrong with playing with a pick??

  • @minimum95

i think playing cliff´s songs with pick is an offense lol

but playing jason´s songs with a pick is ok

  • Jason plays it with a Pick.

Also, Pick has a very slightly different tone to it.

Playing with Fingers does look cool though :3

  • hes good either way on bass so shadap

  • this song is played with pick

  • you rock, dude one of the best cover seen.

  • Sadowsky, Newsted's most frequently used bass brand since parts of the black album and the loads, i find they have the greatest low ends but enough treble punch for metal, especially when down tuned.

  • ...I love sadowsky and I tried it once... regular price...?

    Btw...20/5! :))

  • u have good talent Fortunatefame

  • Nice bass. Is this a Sadowsky jazz or a fender with Sadowsky neck?

Looks exactly like a Fender Geddy Lee BTW.

  • It´s the real thing.

  • ya ur bass is awesome

  • @Fortunatefame so since you have a Metro and an NYC...are there any differences that REALLY stick out...i'm thinking of a Metro, but if if they don't touch the NYC i think i'll save up...thoughts?

also...you nail the "Jason sound" you using any effects like a comp or what? i've spent years trying to nail that sounds and i can't get it...i've got my own that i like but would like to know how you've managed to nail that

  • That Sadowski is hot! Great playing too btw...

  • i don't play bass but man i wash i could do that.

wish i had a bass and a guitar first

  • stop wishing and just do it

  • but i can't cuz i'm savin up money for a new drum kit .

maybe if the bessguitarist of my band buyz a new one i can have his.

but he want's a new amp so yeah :S

  • 2 of the heaviest songs for metallica

  • I wouldn´t really use "heaviest", but "coolest" sure. If you really want heavy songs by Metallica, well... Fight Fire With Fire, Disposable Heroes, Creeping Death, Master of Pupets, Battery, Whiplash, Seek And Destroy...

  • Superb Playing Man, Where did you buy the Sadowsky?

  • The 5-string was from Roger. The 4-string was from Mannys in NY.

  • What amp are you using? Sounds Awesome........

  • I don´t use any amp modulation in this clip. It´s all in the bass :)

  • @Fortunatefame yeah basses are loud played by themselves.

  • @Fortunatefame what does the moduling clip looks like???

  • nice basses

  • just like i'm playing it

  • throw the pick and then you will real wock

    good job

  • you dont have to pick with your finger to play bass dude

  • what i hate is like hes picking not finger picking like a real bassist more like a guitarist

  • looks like a fender geddy lee jazz bass but its a sadowsky

  • ok, hmm, what kind of bass is that?

  • how did you get Jasons sound on that bass? :O

  • I think Jasonuses the same bass model as this guy

  • Jason used that brand (Sadowsky) starting around the Load and ReLoad era, however, I thought the 4-string sounded almost exactly like Jasons bass on the Black Album.

  • Yeahh! I love ur sadowsky bassguitar! Nice playing too!

  • are you using a pick? or are you just holding your fingers that way. Just wondering if that might be how you get that tone :)

  • he is useing a pick

  • Comment removed

  • wtf did i do? i just said that he played with a pick

  • no sorry, wrong post =( i didnt mean that dude. Im one of the few supporting pick players. Every bass vid I see someone is trying to tell the person how low they are for using a pick. I wasnt meaning that toward this vid, sorry

  • wow killer sound its almost has jason playing

  • What do you have your sound settings at? I cant get the tone i want for this song, you have that tone

  • hey where did u get your tabs for sad but true. can you send me them. thanks

  • u rock men!

  • looks bit like my fender ;)

  • good job man

    I love your bass

  • 5*

    rock on man!

  • whats the difference between a sadowsky and a fender.

  • lol there 2 different brand names but in terms of tone playing quality so on so forth i dunno

  • everything

  • there is no difference really apart from fender is a better make

  • gg mec

  • oops i mean sadowsky

  • awesome bass man i love shadowsky.. how does it compare to a fender jazz?

  • Sadowsky are more powerful and has superior build quality then a fender.

  • AWESOME...great job man...bass sounds sick...sounds perfect to me. Great job. Bass forever bro

  • JAson used no 5-string bass for sad but true. Can hear it on basstrack,......

but the most important thing is to get a good sound, and this vid and his other vids have very good sounds,of course they´re also played well.

  • Live he messed around with the bassline and used a low C note, that you would need a 5 string for, or a bass tuned to drop C (TengBurton did a cover of Sad But True in drop C.). Overall, you don't really need a five string, I don't think Jason used one on the track ethier.

  • who gives a flying duck in paris if its played right it sounded amazing and itsobviusly extremly close to perfect

id like to see you guys do better

  • man i loved the sound of your bass.

    so metal \m/

  • Oh my god guys.

    Just stop.

This is the best cover i've seen.

Don't argue about if he played it right or wrong. No one else cares.

  • Loved the cover......for once good quality sound of both music and bass.....and....clear video. Fab sound for the bass....what amp are you using?

  • You're playing it wrong.

  • No he isnt he's playing it correctly.

  • No. It's wrong. Check out 0:54. There is a simple "scale" on every string.

watch?v=rA1QpYysLhc . Check out 1:30. That is the original bass, not a cover. Also, at 0:19, you play the E on the A string, with the open E as well.

    Get your facts straight.

  • Its the same note, but an octave higher, it depends how you like that note to sound, heavy, or bright, its still the same note and it wont make any drastic effect to the song or better yet noticeable change to the song Jason verified about with the song (see S&M's bass track), My facts are perfectly in order thank you, he's playing it correctly.

  • Yes, but the title clearly stares "Correctly played". The octave is part the of the original track.

You never got to the part at 0:54.

  • That is F sharp, C and B, that is also how the guitars play the song, Jason followed the guitars, like I said he's playing it correctly.

  • I know, I forgot the names of the notes, but that isn't important.

He is NOT playing it correctly if it is not how it was made in studio.

  • - Kinda is if you talk about music.

    - And when played live I'm sure Jason didnt really follow studio specifics.

  • They always play it differently when they do it live.

The title says it is correctly played. That does not mean on stage, or practice. That means Studio.

  • dude, how much was your Sadowsky? i really want one and i was looking around on the internet and there like 2.5k each =P.

  • Great sounding basses! can you get that sound out of your sadowsky m5-24?

  • Yeah, I know...hehe

  • Nice Sadowsky. I'm thinking about getting one too. When you tune yours down, does it screw with the neck any?

  • No, the neck is as straight as the time I bought it and never had a problem with it.

  • What type of DR strings did you use?

  • Marcus Miller signature.

  • could u tell me how you are recording this video/audio?

  • you fail lol

  • Lol bass of Jason newted

  • what are Sadowskys like to play?

    considering buying :P

  • Like an orgasm.

  • what are you using to record this video/audio of you playing? Computer cam?

  • :d wanna join my band?

  • where did you get the tab it rocks very clean

  • Im learning how to play the bass currently..and i learn to play enter sandman..but on a site the intro begins with the E string open... basically all the intro is on the E string..sounds good..but please correct me...is that the right way to play it?? on E string? (just the intro)

  • yes the intro is all E string, once the drums come in just keep a nice steady beat but still keep it heavy :D

  • whats your setup ?

  • good job dude!

  • Hey, nice playing on enter sandman love it. im playing the same way and you rock on bass just keep play:D

  • dude! you rock! i like your bass sound very much, thanks.

  • Okej! =)

    fyfan;D nice

  • Vart köpte du 5 strängade och vad kostade den?;D

  • Köpte den från Sadowsky. Priset ligger väl på 4000 dollar.

  • så du der fra sverige ? eg e fra Norge:D

  • Nice cover dude, nice cover

  • Thanks!

  • Fucking nice covers dude :D

  • Thanks dude!

  • exelent men!!

  • Thanx!

  • why did u use a 5 string for sad but true?

  • For the verse and the bridge. It is played like that on the original recording. The B-string.

  • i got a 4 string. can i still play the song?

  • Yes you can. Just play the notes one octave higher.

  • how?

  • that what sad but true are played on

  • You know the note right?

Can you try and make a tab?

Its your choice but it would be really helpful to anyone

  • fuck man ur awesome

  • Great cover, I love the sound. It's like a heavy jazz bass? Did you use any distortion? Also, would you happen to have the tabs? I need to figure out the bass solo's for Enter sandman, but all the tabs I find are fucked.

  • No distortion. And I don´t have tabs. What bass solo do you mean?

  • 1:08

  • no bass solo in this song!

  • man u Rock!!! how do you get all those songs??

  • Hard work.

  • jazz clone?

  • Clone? Well, sort of. It cost three times more than the price of a standard fender.

  • why is it so expensive?

  • Because they are better than standard fenders:) I don´t know...They are made of better wood and are better quality build. Most High End basses are expensive. Neither the less, fenders are very good intruments too. Sorry for my poor english.

  • it's because they're hand-made :P Jason Newsted also plays Sadowsky basses.
