JUST MISSED!!! "Love Takes Time" just missed making the Billboard's Hot Top 10 chart; it peaked at No. 11 and spent a total of 15 weeks in the Hot Top 100 in 1979!!!
IT SURE DOES...AND TAKES SOME HEARTBREAK SOMETIMES ALONG THE WAY..THATS THE DOWNFALL OF love...DAMN..DAMN..DAMN..BUT THERE IS SOMEONE OUT THERE FOR ALL OF US SINGLE FOLK,...
OMG Love the 70's, I was 14 when this song came out, went out with a wonderful Jr High school Sweet heart name Elaine. Every time I hear this song it reminds me of her. What a great song and decade.....God if I could only go back in time
I graduated from high school in june, 1979. Time was starting to fly for me and it has been flying ever since. The way the drums sound at the beginning remind me of that feeling of excitement of things really starting to move along.

Heard this on the way home from work....OMG...what a feeling came over me...had to add it to my favorites...what a great feeling...thanx for the post!!!
@dewaynecullen - what a great story! I had a similar experience when I was 13, also at a community pool! Riverside CA, summer 1972 and the song on the radio was Brandy (You're A Fine Girl) Sadly, my new friend Debbie and I only had ONE magical day together. But I never forgot.
Years later I just enjoyed the heck out of this Orleans song.
@preorganizedchaos well, thanks to Facebook - we ARE connected once more. I guess Facebook friendship will have to do. But we often talk about that particular summer in a small East Tennessee town. The kind of town where people actually walked "downtown" and ate lunch at the local drug store:) As a famous author once wrote - "Days that are gone with the wind".
Saw the All Star Band tonight in Charleston. The Hoppen boys are still kick ass! The were joined by Robbie Dupree, David Peck from Ambrosia, John Ford Coley and John Cafferty. It was a great show! Mr. Hoppen was still on time and tune! Thanks for the memories!
'79 we just moved into our new home i was in my senior high, adjusting with the neighborhood when i saw this pretty girl pass by our house she was so popular back then and just about the same time my sister turned on the radio with this song playing whew.. eventually she became my girl and this song our theme the boys over their was so pissed off with me.. haha sure darn miss that girl ..
Orleans hit #11 in Billboard, 5-26-79. John Hall WASN'T lead singer. He and his wife Johanna, wrote 'Dance with me', and 'Still the one. God bless ya. for postin' it. Thanx! Larry Hoppen has always been the lead singer.
This has always been my Favorite song - ever. This should be played more on the 70's music stations. I sent an email to Larry Hoppen for a copy - no reply. I would love to frame a single and display it in my home. Thank you for posting the song.
The 70's were by far the best decade in music, but sadly music producers have forgotten that. All the crap nowadays like Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez makes you realize what great music this is.
I was 9 years old back in 1979. And I can remember buying K-Tel's Gold Rush '79 Volumes 1 and 2 (I think this song was on Vol. 1) at my local K-Mart on vinyl. I felt so grown up listening to such great music including this one. Hearing it again instantly erases 30 years. Thank you for posting!
Great tune. Once upon time music was made with first priority being how it would sound on radio. Songs like this were not made by hyped superstars/celebrities, yet anyone who heard these songs when they were new and hears them again decades later remembers that earlier joy/excitement of first listen. Artists of today may sell more units and make more money and that makes sense for music industry financially but does anyone feel any lasting connection to their songs years later? Highly doubtful.
Love this song...almost forgot it existed until I heard it on Music Choice. Definately my favorite song from Orleans. Thanks for bringing back some great memories.
This is a great song. I moved with my family from Cape Cod to Tucson Arizona and lived out there in the late 70's and early 80's when I was a little kid and remember hearing this song on the radio. It brings back cool memories of my childhood in Tucson. Nowadays I live in Wisconsin and sure do miss it there especially the weather. Also my thoughts and prayers are with those in Tucson.
Great God . . . the summer of '79. Mary and I were twelve years old and in the seventh grade, out for the summer. This song played at the community pool in our small town on July 4th. She and I grew up on the same block but I never noticed her until that day. This song played while we were at the snack bar as she caught my eye. That afternoon we became boyfriend/girlfriend and shared the rest of the summer. Later that year she moved away:( My first heart ache. But I'll always remember . . Mary.
@dewaynecullen Thanks for sharing such a great story for a great song. I was 24 at the time and this was my "Miami" song. My story is too long to relate ....but I still remember and smile :-)
I'm a 19 year old male, and I have to say, I'm an all around kind of music guy. May it be Rap, Hip-hop, Pop, Alternative Rock, Rock n' Roll...etc etc. But Orleans, is by far my most favorite band of all-time. Their music is so pure, fun, and just a joy to listen to. It's more musical than any music that could be made in the the present day. I envy you characters who got to live in this decade of music. Also, the 80's we're amazing too!
@Drock1891 If you like this, check out Deja Vu "Dance" Canadian Pop/rock and songs by Michel Pagliero (What the Hell I Got etc) and Ray Materick (Linda Put the Coffee On).

Such a happy song! I remember when I was growing up in the 60s and my dad would criticize what I listened to by saying "they don't make music like they used to." Well, now here I am in my mid 50s, listening to songs like this, thinking "they don't make music like they used to!"
