@Jaymobe07 worlds fastest 3000gt Matt Monett 8.74, V6 twin turbo, worlds fastest 80's FWD chrysler turbo car Brian Slowe's Shadow 8.60 single turbo. I guess that turd shadow runs a little better than the vastly superior 3000gt with 2 less cylinders, and half as many turbos.
Dodge turbo z was my first turbo car. I punched it out 30 over used a 2.5 head, Turbonectics sent me a larger 60 trim a/r turbo that pushed 15lbs center force dual friction clutch, msd ignition 35lbs inj and polished and ported head the purple cam from dodge and my girl wow! I'm a big v8 guy I also owned 91 SHO mtx that daytona was faster than everything I put it against. 10.36 documented and 289hp sold car for 15k 2003
@Jaymobe07 Well if you look at the date this was uploaded it was over 4 years ago, I was 19 and dumb then. But they aren't terrible cars. And some dude on the net does RWD conversions.
P.S. i was reading an article in my mopar magzine for all u daytona fans and the STOCK 1993 Stage 3 2.5L Turbo Daytona BEAT a 1970 R/T in the 1/4 mile 14.5sec to 14.7sec ;D
LOL you guys are funny but i know A Little about the 3000gt the daytonas and the stealths. im not trying to start shit im just trying to help out. the base model stealth/3000gt motor is the same exact thing as the 3.0L and the base model steath and gt r SOHC the only difference is they have more valves and make about 150Hp it would be a nice upgrade but u would probably have to swap the intake. just to through it out there my 92 daytona 3.0 eats hondas from a stop and on the highway VTEC TRASH
Are these cars any good cause i have a 87 Turbo z by me for sale for 1200 bucks dont know the mileage on it yet but was wondering how they were on gas and if they last for a long time on mileage?
i own a 1993 daytona with the 3.0 v6 and man does this car scoot...fastest car i have had but i do agree that there are not much to do to the v6s but i do have to say that mine runs great... i am wanting to get ride of it so if any one wahts to offer a good price shoot. the only flaw bout this car is thaT its still in primar but has no rust.. just shoot
You gotta love these little cars. I got mine for about 300 bucks, and It still ran. They clean up nice and are easy to work on(except the starter, that's just a bitch). Oh, and the turbo. Man, they are fast when you get the shift right.
I bought mine last July for $2,600 and it was garage kept, and driven two Pennsylvania winters in the 20 years the owner had it (until we bought it off of him of course). It had just a tick under 68,000 miles. And the Infinity system of course, but it's completely shot and I plan on replacing it with some OEM components to keep it original.
A few days ago I spent less than $200 for a G-Force chip and a Dynomax exhaust system. I bought them online, and am currently waiting for them to get here.
It has the V6, and what do you mean you can't find anything for that engine? Mitsubishi used the 6G7 engine in the 3000GT, among countless others all the way from the late '80 til about 2007.
I think I'd rather have the V6 than the turbo. You get more lower end torque, excellent fuel mileage, and you don't have to worry about maintaining any turbos. All for what? Like 20 less horsepower? There no question about it for me, I'd pick the V6 any day.
But is it the same block though? Or would the difference in cam setup yield a different block? Because I do know that the engine in my car is from Mitsubishi.
@Z3RO0RD1E Lol you dont really have to "maintain" the turbo any more than you do the rest of the car. Its as simple as changing the oil on schedule and the line every 15 years lol. I personally do not like v6s. Theyre not very efficient when you think about it.
@Z3RO0RD1E Turbo-2 has 37hp more than The V6,And the Auto Trans suck of the V6.
How i know? i own a turbo 2.2Turbo, And a V6 with a gearbox that has been broken down 3time's With 150000km (90000miles) I dont mean the V6 is bad but it has some bad quality's.
@stricktgraff2011 Well I don't know about the 4 cyclinders but the v6 engine is known to burn oil after a while. And performance parts? For the v6 your looking at a cold air intake and thats about all! Go with a turbo 4cylinder.
@sktm06 hey this is stricktgraff on my new profile, thanks for the info, ive heard the v6's were crap, shortly after i posted this we drove passed a car dealer with about a blue 89 model for 1200 bucks, v6 or not imma get it, but if it is a v6 ill go find a wrecked 4 cyl and swap engines., i love these cars they make perfect sleepers ;) cant wait to get mine
@BlameItOnTheWhiteBoy I had the V6 and mine never burned oil... the only thing I really hated about them was that the damn Caravans have the same engine lol.
@sktm06 lol wow i didnt know that XD i still want one of these bad lol, id race just about anyone in the school parkin lot with one of these, its great that ppl dont know what they are, til their behind you :D
Wow, Im a nissan and toyota guy, I have SR20det cars and 7mGTE, I've also owned Vg30dett and more, And I just bought a daytona turbo today, I gotta say its pretty quick, mine is running above 15 lbs though by accident, not to bad for a $200 winter car!
Daytonas can't handle, Shelby or not. I dunno why people say they do. They were built to compete with the V8s of the day and be fuel efficient. An alternative. They're reliable, sturdy and powerful if you know how to use them. If you have a Daytona and it's a pos then it's your own damn fault. I have an '86 Turbo Z and an '88 Shelby Z and I love them.
A few weeks ago I saw one at a stop light. At first I thought it was a Camaro, then I realised it was a Daytona. It's amazing to think that a Grand Caravan and this car are basically built on the same frame. It's impressive too what Chrysler engineers were able to do with little funding and resources. How do you compete with V8s whe you don't have the money to develop one of your own? Turbo everything. Dodge was Fast and Furious a decade before enybody even knew what that was.
these cars were way ahead of their time, they are the original bat mobiles, i had a 1987 dodge shelby turbo an use to beat Mustangs, iroc z28 , porche 944, corvets, these cars are fast as shit an handle very well because caroll shelby built the suspension, only problem is if the turbo go out, the car aint shit just a 4 cylender, the other thing you should do is get the bar welded in the front around the engine because the front wheel drive has a lot of torque, dodge use to sell high output turbos2
@brianarmstrong2010 Actually they were behind thier time. The engine design was made in the 70s. Its the EFI that helped them along. 84 turbo equipped vehicles were a wiring nightmare but they fixed that disaster in 85. Love the cars, I dont know why haha. Usually the turbo 'went out' because the actuator arm clip rotted off and the arm came loose. I always hear 'it was a great car but the turbo stopped working one day' thats usually why.
This cars unknown because Chrysler/Dodge hopes no one remembers these Pretend sportscars while they try to market Challengers and chargers that actually go. These cars came stock so cheap that they had plastic radiator caps. The Daytona/Laser was a Camaro rip off design and the only decently quick ones were turbo's that were very unreliable. it's almost impossible to see one of these on the road cause they all went to the junkyard 16 years ago.

@Parliment86 funny there is a shitload around me, none of the 90s like mine... but a lot of 80s daytonas here, and im in a small town. ill admit 99% of them are not taken care of and now look like shit. BTW, how can you compare a challenger and charger to a old daytona ?
@Parliment86 Those pretend sports cars were wrecking those great camaros you speak of. Ive owned 5 80s mopars and none of them had plastic radiator caps. I had a base model that was near mint and never had it replaced. You're probably thinking of the plastic overflow cap like every car on the road has now. They were marketed as an economy vehicle. Why do you think they are in the junkyard now? Same with the rednecks with camaros. Dont those look beautiful in thier rusty glory too?
@Parliment86 Youre retarded to call these pretend sports cars. During and after the oil crisis, most 80's cars were tiny 4 cylinders. The turbo daytona were one of the only fast cars on the road. And just so you know, they're faster then 9 out of 10 cars on the road today. Also, turbos are not unreliable. In fact, a turbo daytona is more reliable than any challenger or daytona. cars today are more unreliable than ever and they cant even be worked on without an expensive diagnostic computer.
@Parliment86 My 88 was still strong when I sold it two years ago. Problem wasn't construction quality, just availability of parts. I think you haven't known many Daytonas. Mine started in deep cold and high heat, never left me stranded. Online used-car reviews don't support the claim of unreliability. They were hardly a rip-off of the Camaro, which relied on a big V8 for power. The T2 Daytona was fast:, and got 4-cylinder fuel economy. If they still made parts for it, I'd still have mine.
@jmecrg in 2000? I wish they made them that long. Headgaskets werent the problem, it was just the engine lol. Put a felpro gasket on it and itll get 3x less life than the mopar gasket.
Amen brother, fuck them civic piece of shit's!!!! Mopar comes in all sizes and kick-ass power levels.....you just have to pick your poison and drop the hammer on the riceroni turdmobiles and it's all over but their crying!!!!!
I wish I still had my 85 Laser 2.2 Turbo. I loved that turbo whine. Yeah, I call the Civics and wannabees egg beaters, cause that's all they are. Slap on some exhaust fittings and some cheap gauges almost hanging out the driver door, and I be bad. Yeah right. Lasers and Daytonas would smoke em away. Guaranteed. Thanks for posting!

im 18 and i got one dude its a hell of a car but i have it up for sell im savin up for a srt4 so if your interested you can check it out on my page i got only 2 vids of it
The last time I saw one of these on the street from a distance I thought "that's a strange looking camaro" then as it got closer I realised that it was a Daytona. I would love to have one of these and get it running and upgrade the turbo. It's a great looking car and would take to a new paint job really well. Especially with some modern wheels and tires. If I wasn't stripping down a R/T neon for autocross I would get one of these.
KyleMcKibben's statement is right. 69fastbacklover's comment is HALF right, in that the *BASE* model IROC (not the higher trim R/T), is simply a vinyl decal styling package.
Personally, I've had about 6 Daytonas. 4 1st gen's and 2 3rd gens. Still have the 2 3rd gen cars....a '92 IROC-3.0/5 speed and a '93 IROC R/T 16v car. Also have an '86 Turbo Z parts car and am probably about to buy an '86 Chrysler Laser XT.
These posts are not meant to slam or offend anyone, just to inform and clear confusion.
Shelby cars were turbo 2.2's. Period. If it says SHELBY, but has a 3.0....then it is not the engine the car came with. Not all Shelby's were intercooled. Some were T1 cars, (no I/C), and some were T-2 cars, with intercoolers. T-1 cars ran from 142HP in early years (2.2 turbo) to 152HP for later 2.5 turbo's. T-2 cars were intercooled and made 174HP. T-3 cars were the 16v cars and had 224HP. T-4 cars had the VNT turbo and 8v head and made the same 174HP as T-2's but spooled faster.
Wow, reading through all these comments, there is SOOO much mis-information.
1st gen=1984-1986 (Dodge Daytona and Chrysler Laser) The PLYMOUTH Laser came later, and was based on the Mitsubishi Eclipse DSM platform. 2nd gen=1987-1991, 3rd gen=1992,1993. Shelby's ended after '91. The IROC (only) was 2.4 turbo or 3.0 V-6, and ran '92-'93. IROC R/T was 2.2 16valve DOHC with 5 speed only, and also ran '92-'93. Daytona (and other "normal") 3.0's had many differences from the Stealth/3000GT 3.0's.
To add for clarity...The Shelby model was killed off in favor of the IROC, HALFWAY through 1991. The IROC was only available with the 2.5L Turbo or the V6.
the other day i had some dude in a civic talk trashed and said his little 4 cylinder turbo was a monster. well we took off and when i looked in my mirror he was miles away.
my mistake, it has the flip up lights so i figured it was that year, i researched more and foudn i was wrong though ^^ but i found a better IROC without the flip up lights, goign to be getting that next month
rixthehybrid, there wasn't an iroc version from 87-89, those were shelby z's (87-88) and shelby's (89).
Iroc wasn't just a sticker package either. Those were the top of the line versions of the daytonas the years that they were available. The iroc labeling and the shelby labeling were the same, but it still meant that they were the top of the line cars... especially the iroc r/t, that's the badass of the whole line.
No. There was not an iroc package on the daytona until '91. Please have your facts straight if you're going to leave messages like this. Do a little research first. And what you mean by "sticker package" I have no idea. There is a big difference between a base level, an "es" and an iroc. You should probably do some reading on the subject...
Yes my 1991 dodge daytona shelby turbo is still for sale. 2.5l turbo, full3 inch exhaust, 4 wheel disk brakes with cross drilled rotors all the way around. Pushes 20lbs easy. columbus ohio $1500 lemme know, I also have SRT4rims and low pro tires that are for sale, and look good on the car..
The 3.0 in the Daytona and all other K-based cars is NOT the same as the 3000GT/Stealth engine. The former is a 12 valve SOHC; the 3000 motor is a 24 DOHC with another 80 HP in the N/A version.
I had an 87 Shelby turbo I, and an 87 base, now I have two 90's V6 automatics I am trying to fix, one will be turbo. I love these cars and ia would have one of each style if I could
OK The only way you will blow a HG in one of these is due to mileage, or more commonly people running too much boost too on an OLD gasket. mopar HGs can take 25psi. the cometics can take even more. And the head is aluminum and does not warp unless you REEEEELY cook it. I had a 90 VNT daytona that was a monster and a total sleeper- my favorite comment after whooping a 5.0? "What is that like a delorean or something???" Goes to show you that people really dont believe these Turbos can burn you ...
I have a 93 3L v6 sittin out front i JUST got it from my parents and blew the head gaskets. now im waitin to get it fixed. kinda want the 2.2L turbo tho =/
picked up a 90 5 speed 3L and got a 92 auto for parts, and the future could see the extra motor getting a makeover. when the snows gone might have it ready for a summer toy
When it says "the v6 version of the daytona uses the same engine as the stealth and 3000GT" is it saying like they're both 3.0 liter v6's or that its rlly the same engine that goes into those cars? Because I'm pretty damn sure a stock 3000GT engine puts out more than 145 horsepower.. Can anyone confirm??
Thanks for the post. Got my 1st Daytona on 03-10-1986, never looked back. Theres been a Daytona in my driveway ever since. Freekin' best sports car Mopar ever made!!!
I had a Daytona and some stupid trik drove her big junky van on top of my car, totaled it. I still have a place in my heart for my car eventhough it's been years since I've had my car.
yea it is a nice car i got the 1990 3.0L v6 its my first car stil waiting to drive it i got it for $1800 did body work got it painted also got it with the 4 wheel disk brakes just a cool car !
If you guys that are bitching Maintained them in the first place they probably would not have fallen into such disrepair now, either that or you are the type that will do 80 on a dirt road and wonder why shit breaks.
Why are you so bitter? Man you need to get a life other than coming on here and personally attacking people for their supposed negligence of a car for which you don't even have proof. You are just a total jerk.
These cars are generally horrible to maintain. I have a Daytona IROC R/T 2.2L TIII DOHC. I love the thing to death, but after 2 years and 10 g's of repairs and mods I have yet to enjoy the thing. I'm rebuilding the engine right now due to blown head gasket and fried piston rings. These cars are great but only in the hands of one who enjoys working on their car more than driving it.
Well, It is not just the daytona name. The Entire R/T package was Horrible to maintain. In all honesty, not trying to attack your driving but if you are dealing that much damage to the motor on that regular of a basis maybe it is not the car, maybe it is you.
Wow, thanks for the personal attack. Let me tell you something, you don't know anything about me or my car save what I've written here so don't go on a rant saying oh not attacking you but it's probably your fault. Go stuff it. You have no idea what you're talking about. Come down to my neck of the woods and I'll show you whats up with my car.
I used to have a blue 1989 Dodge Daytona ES with factory T-Tops (which I understand was a very rare option on that car.) 2.5L non-turbo engine and 3-speed automatic transmission. Slow as molasses. Beautiful car, have never driven anything that handled better. Problem was it was the most unreliable piece of doodoo I have ever had. It was one thing after another with that car, it NEVER ran right. Sold it for $600 when it needed a trans rebuild and a head gasket. Fun car while it lasted.
fuck yeah love my '89 3L v6 (didn't have much choice) daytona, my first car and I bought it for $500 (spent another $600 fixing the fuel pump + random problems) and can't wait to get it painted and all fixed up. These cars are beasts and an absolute rush to drive.
hell yea, i just bought one for $850!!! its a 1990 dodge daytona es turbo 5 spd...only thing it needs is rust repair...it fuckin rocks n i already love it n it's only been a day
haha i have a blue 87 dodge daytona shelby z and so far its the worst car iv ever had with all the problems iv seen so far but i realy still like the car its a thrill to drive.
Well the daytona is the original tuner car they are the foundation for dsm This kid at my school has a silver 2001 civic and he claims it has about 300hp and i asked him what he had he said a turbo and a cold air intake so i say ok pop the hood and show me the turbo so he showed me his alternator
Yeah, nice, knock on a Civic owner why don't ya :P Truth be told, as much potential as this car has, Hondas have just as much and prob with a cheaper price tag. I admit I love this car, or I wouldn't be here. But I own an 96 ek civic hatch, and it's a fun car. I've upgraded several aspects, with plenty of room for more. It has reacted well to minor upgrades, I will be pleased once I've dropped a turboed D16 SOHC 1.6 motor into it, aiming for 200+hp, and not out of my damn alternator lol.
nice vid, highly underrated car. I especially like the 80's versions with the 2.2L Turbo and if you can find the Chrysler version (Laser) then all the better.
hey guys just bought a 1991 for $250 and drove it home i olny need to put a O.2 censor and feul filter but shes olny a 2.5L base line but im defently not gonna leave her stock but i love watching daytona videos so everone keep posting
I have had four of them 2 Shelbys and a Turbo Z and a CS. Loved em! I have slowed down now and drive Dakotas now. On my 3rd one. Keep those Daytonas alive!
I got a 92 3l v6 auto(if only it was standard!) and its my first car, it needed some work, but iv driven it a little(no plates or insurances yet) and its just an amazing. I am really glad i pulled it outa my uncles drive way after sittings for 4 years, another year longer, it would have been almost unrepairable. ill put videos on soon as its running nicely enough for me want to show it on youtube =) or when i get a movie on how nice it is then how bad it is,a comparison video. ty for this movie.
i have a 93 daytona iroc 3.0v6 i have had it for about 4 months Got It Cheep 300$ had problems but worked them out and the thing runs great mine just has minor body damage and it has 160k miles on it
awsome, searched for some vids cause my cars about shot and my friends dad will sell me a 94 daytona for 150 bucks, needs a new windshield and seats, yeah im buyin it.xD thx for the vid.
i know this guy, he doesnt drive and he has an 89 daytona 2.2l turbo 2. nothing wrong with it.. 200k km and it runs awsome.. bought for 100$ and a lil bit of helping him.
im just buying a 88 Daytona i think is a 2.2 or a 2.4L saddly it has a no turbo any ideas where i could get one?? i want to know more bout the rear wheel drive conversion kit, can you tell e where to get one??
fuck yeah im real fucking glad im not the only one fixin my shit up check mine out n tell me what you think about my 1989 daytona es 2.5 turbo, cold air intake, 17" ADR, MSD ignition , custome B&M shifter, and much more!!!!!!!!!!
My 93 daytona was awesome but at 187k the tranny went so I sold it for 300 to a guy with 6 of em. Ive had 5 cars since and liked none better than my dodge.
isnt that about the most your peice of shit civic offers? suck a dick, its 225hp with the turbo, and its called tuning, people like to make it powerful themselves.
@sktm06 Agreed that the turbo was awesome. My 88 Shelby Z did 0-60 in about 6.5 on its best day. Didn't expect it, and didn't really do anything to it. Loved that car.
It was a great car with clean lines. Turbos sucked due to maintenance problems. Parts became nearly impossible to get by 2002. I gave up the two 87's I owned.
Actually they are great fun and require little maintenance if treated right.. aka good oil and filters. My 88 Shelby Z has 131,000 on it now and everything under the hood is still original with the exception of the wastegate rod and headgasket. Running 14psi with an open exhaust.
I only use Wix or purolator filters with Mobil 1 Synthetic. My engine still has the same oil pressure a new engine had... and runs mid 14's to boot with 190hp. ;)

I'm 17 and I'm proud I have a '90 Daytona ES.

@Z3RO0RD1E The engine in the 3000GT is DOHC, while the one in the Daytona is SOHC.

@sktm06
Really? I didn't know that.
Thanks for correcting me though. :]
But is it the same block though? Or would the difference in cam setup yield a different block? Because I do know that the engine in my car is from Mitsubishi.

@Z3RO0RD1E They are same. The Daytona's SOHC is the exact same motor in the shitty 90s Dodge Caravans lol.
sktm06 5 months ago
@Z3RO0RD1E Lol you dont really have to "maintain" the turbo any more than you do the rest of the car. Its as simple as changing the oil on schedule and the line every 15 years lol. I personally do not like v6s. Theyre not very efficient when you think about it.
XxretardhaterxX 3 months ago
@Z3RO0RD1E Turbo-2 has 37hp more than The V6,And the Auto Trans suck of the V6.
How i know? i own a turbo 2.2Turbo, And a V6 with a gearbox that has been broken down 3time's With 150000km (90000miles) I dont mean the V6 is bad but it has some bad quality's.
EnVyDaMaG3R 2 months ago
@Z3RO0RD1E 20 less hp stock. but ur v6 will never hit 300 hp which is not that hard to get out of a chrysler 2.2 8v turbo
franktib 3 days ago
@stricktgraff2011 Well I don't know about the 4 cyclinders but the v6 engine is known to burn oil after a while. And performance parts? For the v6 your looking at a cold air intake and thats about all! Go with a turbo 4cylinder.
sktm06 8 months ago
@sktm06 hey this is stricktgraff on my new profile, thanks for the info, ive heard the v6's were crap, shortly after i posted this we drove passed a car dealer with about a blue 89 model for 1200 bucks, v6 or not imma get it, but if it is a v6 ill go find a wrecked 4 cyl and swap engines., i love these cars they make perfect sleepers ;) cant wait to get mine
BlameItOnTheWhiteBoy 7 months ago
@BlameItOnTheWhiteBoy I had the V6 and mine never burned oil... the only thing I really hated about them was that the damn Caravans have the same engine lol.
sktm06 7 months ago

CountingMagpies 1 year ago
the daytona rocks!!
nephewsrock 1 year ago
A few weeks ago I saw one at a stop light. At first I thought it was a Camaro, then I realised it was a Daytona. It's amazing to think that a Grand Caravan and this car are basically built on the same frame. It's impressive too what Chrysler engineers were able to do with little funding and resources. How do you compete with V8s whe you don't have the money to develop one of your own? Turbo everything. Dodge was Fast and Furious a decade before enybody even knew what that was.

You should check out my daytona......... rear wheel drive, 1560hp. its in my vids.
BrandonR572 1 year ago
these cars were way ahead of their time, they are the original bat mobiles, i had a 1987 dodge shelby turbo an use to beat Mustangs, iroc z28 , porche 944, corvets, these cars are fast as shit an handle very well because caroll shelby built the suspension, only problem is if the turbo go out, the car aint shit just a 4 cylender, the other thing you should do is get the bar welded in the front around the engine because the front wheel drive has a lot of torque, dodge use to sell high output turbos2
brianarmstrong2010 1 year ago

BTW, how can you compare a challenger and charger to a old daytona ?
sktm06 1 year ago 3
@Parliment86 Those pretend sports cars were wrecking those great camaros you speak of. Ive owned 5 80s mopars and none of them had plastic radiator caps. I had a base model that was near mint and never had it replaced. You're probably thinking of the plastic overflow cap like every car on the road has now. They were marketed as an economy vehicle. Why do you think they are in the junkyard now? Same with the rednecks with camaros. Dont those look beautiful in thier rusty glory too?
TeaNCrumpets25 1 year ago
@Parliment86 Someone at the tech school I go to has one. It's actually pretty cool, just because it's different.
irarawkstarr 1 year ago
@Parliment86 Youre retarded to call these pretend sports cars. During and after the oil crisis, most 80's cars were tiny 4 cylinders. The turbo daytona were one of the only fast cars on the road. And just so you know, they're faster then 9 out of 10 cars on the road today. Also, turbos are not unreliable. In fact, a turbo daytona is more reliable than any challenger or daytona. cars today are more unreliable than ever and they cant even be worked on without an expensive diagnostic computer.
XxretardhaterxX 1 year ago
@Parliment86 My 88 was still strong when I sold it two years ago. Problem wasn't construction quality, just availability of parts. I think you haven't known many Daytonas. Mine started in deep cold and high heat, never left me stranded. Online used-car reviews don't support the claim of unreliability. They were hardly a rip-off of the Camaro, which relied on a big V8 for power. The T2 Daytona was fast:, and got 4-cylinder fuel economy. If they still made parts for it, I'd still have mine.

GeneralTJWillys 1 year ago
Personally, I've had about 6 Daytonas. 4 1st gen's and 2 3rd gens. Still have the 2 3rd gen cars....a '92 IROC-3.0/5 speed and a '93 IROC R/T 16v car. Also have an '86 Turbo Z parts car and am probably about to buy an '86 Chrysler Laser XT.
These posts are not meant to slam or offend anyone, just to inform and clear confusion.
GeneralTJWillys 1 year ago
GeneralTJWillys 1 year ago
GeneralTJWillys 1 year ago
To add for clarity...The Shelby model was killed off in favor of the IROC, HALFWAY through 1991. The IROC was only available with the 2.5L Turbo or the V6.

I just want to help clear up the "IROC" feud.
"IROC" was introduced mid way through 1991 when the "Shelby" contract ended.
There are NO IROC's in 1984-1989, only 1991-1993.
I own a 1991 IROC, 1991 Shelby turbo and a 1993 IROC. I have done the research.
Either way, Daytona's are nice cars.

GETTING A 1990 IN THE NEXT COUPLE WEEKS
blakemcguire 2 years ago
rixthehybrid, there wasn't an iroc version from 87-89, those were shelby z's (87-88) and shelby's (89).
Iroc wasn't just a sticker package either. Those were the top of the line versions of the daytonas the years that they were available. The iroc labeling and the shelby labeling were the same, but it still meant that they were the top of the line cars... especially the iroc r/t, that's the badass of the whole line.
00similis00 2 years ago
dodge came out with the iroc in '89 and from '92 and '93 it was a sticker package
69fastbacklover 2 years ago
No. There was not an iroc package on the daytona until '91. Please have your facts straight if you're going to leave messages like this. Do a little research first. And what you mean by "sticker package" I have no idea. There is a big difference between a base level, an "es" and an iroc. You should probably do some reading on the subject...
00similis00 2 years ago
Yes my 1991 dodge daytona shelby turbo is still for sale. 2.5l turbo, full3 inch exhaust, 4 wheel disk brakes with cross drilled rotors all the way around. Pushes 20lbs easy. columbus ohio $1500 lemme know, I also have SRT4rims and low pro tires that are for sale, and look good on the car..

The 3.0 in the Daytona and all other K-based cars is NOT the same as the 3000GT/Stealth engine. The former is a 12 valve SOHC; the 3000 motor is a 24 DOHC with another 80 HP in the N/A version.

rebelcharlie 2 years ago
OK The only way you will blow a HG in one of these is due to mileage, or more commonly people running too much boost too on an OLD gasket. mopar HGs can take 25psi. the cometics can take even more. And the head is aluminum and does not warp unless you REEEEELY cook it. I had a 90 VNT daytona that was a monster and a total sleeper- my favorite comment after whooping a 5.0? "What is that like a delorean or something???" Goes to show you that people really dont believe these Turbos can burn you ...

These cars are generally horrible to maintain. I have a Daytona IROC R/T 2.2L TIII DOHC. I love the thing to death, but after 2 years and 10 g's of repairs and mods I have yet to enjoy the thing. I'm rebuilding the engine right now due to blown head gasket and fried piston rings. These cars are great but only in the hands of one who enjoys working on their car more than driving it.
thepalmetto 3 years ago
Well, It is not just the daytona name. The Entire R/T package was Horrible to maintain. In all honesty, not trying to attack your driving but if you are dealing that much damage to the motor on that regular of a basis maybe it is not the car, maybe it is you.

Fun car while it lasted.

nwmedia2007 3 years ago 3
Yeah, nice, knock on a Civic owner why don't ya :P Truth be told, as much potential as this car has, Hondas have just as much and prob with a cheaper price tag. I admit I love this car, or I wouldn't be here. But I own an 96 ek civic hatch, and it's a fun car. I've upgraded several aspects, with plenty of room for more. It has reacted well to minor upgrades, I will be pleased once I've dropped a turboed D16 SOHC 1.6 motor into it, aiming for 200+hp, and not out of my damn alternator lol.

All you did was put stuff on that doesn't really make it go much faster. Please tell me you did more than make things sparkle under the hood?

My 93 daytona was awesome but at 187k the tranny went so I sold it for 300 to a guy with 6 of em. Ive had 5 cars since and liked none better than my dodge.

2.2 4cyl 93hp this is shit
HayQueDecirloMas 3 years ago
isnt that about the most your peice of shit civic offers? suck a dick, its 225hp with the turbo, and its called tuning, people like to make it powerful themselves.
sktm06 3 years ago
@sktm06 Agreed that the turbo was awesome. My 88 Shelby Z did 0-60 in about 6.5 on its best day. Didn't expect it, and didn't really do anything to it. Loved that car.

Are you kidding me, parts are pretty easy to come by(except for a couple that are more for looks than anything) I just rebuilt my engine for mine
impuresoul2k3 4 years ago
im talking about kits.... like turbos?
sktm06 4 years ago
It was a great car with clean lines. Turbos sucked due to maintenance problems. Parts became nearly impossible to get by 2002. I gave up the two 87's I owned.
VirginiaPatriot 4 years ago
Actually they are great fun and require little maintenance if treated right.. aka good oil and filters. My 88 Shelby Z has 131,000 on it now and everything under the hood is still original with the exception of the wastegate rod and headgasket. Running 14psi with an open exhaust.
Eddo22 4 years ago
I only use Wix or purolator filters with Mobil 1 Synthetic. My engine still has the same oil pressure a new engine had... and runs mid 14's to boot with 190hp. ;)
