Yeah, I had trouble understanding what July was. It sounded like "ichi" and then I was thinking, "isn't that one?" xD Ah well, got it now. Shichi gatsu!
I know that Japanese Kanji symbols are taken from the Chinese, but I do not know much about the different versions of Chinese, so I can't be sure. They probably are the same symbols, but I'm sure that they have different meanings
sorry . i'm chinese. my english is not good . like me.. i never learn japanese.but i can read the japanese article And understanding 30%-40% meaning..sorry.Anything wrong grammar? sorry.I English grammar needs to be rubbed up
I'm pretty sure that at least 80% of the time Kanji (Hanzi) characters are assigned virtually identical meanings to their Chinese counterparts as is the case in the months of the year. Now, something I find quite strange that is unique of Japanese among all East Asian languages is how words for characters are assigned multi syllabic names (in most cases two); whereas in Chinese and Korean, Kanji characters represent one syllabled words.
Almost. Japanese kanji are simplified versions of Chinese characters, and the pronunciations [even the definitions] are different. Also, Chinese does not have hiragana nor katakana, and as far as I know, they don't use furigana either. Japanese are expected to be familiar with 2,000 kanji.
Well, thats the Kanji, yes. Kanjis are Chinese letters that Japan has adopted. Although they are hardly pronounced the same, they usuall have similar meanings.
they're like numbers 1 ichi ichigatsu january 2 ni nigatsu february 3 san sangatsu march 4 yon/shi shigatsu april 5 go gogatsu may 6 roku rokugatsu june 7 nana/shichi shichigatsu july 8 hachi hachigatsu august 9 kyu kyugatu september 10 jyu jyugatsu octuber 11 jyu ichi jyuichigatsu november 12 jyuni jyunigatsu december
Here are the symbols used in the song: Ichi ga tsu - January Ni ga tsu - February San ga tsu - March Shi ga tsu: April Go ga tsu - May Ro ku ga tsu - June Shi chi ga tsu - July Ha chi ga tsu - August Ku ga tsu - September Jyu ga tsu - October Jyu i chi ga tsu - November Jyu ni ga tsu - December
So if I understood this right, it should be something like "first month", "secondo month" and so on... isn't it? Al least the first parts sound like numbers...
Yeah just like in Chinese; and, I believe the days are much the same way. I'm not entirely sure... but... the Japanese and Chinese were smart to make numbers and calenders so easy to read and learn.
It's sort of like in English where sometimes you say "I'm hungry" (dropping the a) but sometimes "I am hungry". Don't worry about it, it's one of those things you pick up after listening to lots of Japanese!
OMG, this is so much more practical then in English! 1-month, 2-month it makes it easier to learn! If you know 1-12 all u need to know is -gatsu add on! COOL!
ok i've seen the Learn Japanese Numbers before this video before this, and it sounds like you are saying: Month number 1, month number 2, month number 3, etc. is that right?
Not the best one...it needs to be a catchy song like the numbers or weather...Still good. I'm going to play this while I sleep so I can make the most of my time in a day!
yep. spot on an example would be nigatsu which is february. gatsu is month. so number+gatsu = the corresponding month. month 12 is december so juunigatsu would be december and so on.
if you want to say 1 month, 2 month etc you say ka. nikagatsu = 2 months.

I agree with ninetailednaruto98, but I thought Nana was how to say seven in Japanese?
If that rule applies, why is July pronounced shichigatsu, and not nanagatsu?
Sorry if that's a stupid question...
