Critical Mass is a nuisance, vigilante-esque type group, which endeavors to force the city and it's residents to put up with mass "rallies" (generally at night, as you can see by the video) of them biking major thoroughfares, cutting off traffic, endangering not only other drivers, but pedestrians..... all the while yelling and shouting. Just what I want in my city and in my neighborhood!! They have no respect for their fellow citizens, nor the law.... they should be arrested.
.... and, as you can see from the video, they are attempting to stop the riders from entering the intersection on a light change. Same thing happens whenever there's a parade.... they stop the parade/event periodically, to allow crosstown traffic to proceed. The cyclists are ignoring the officers,and attempting to "sneak through". And, by the way, it's the crowd egging things on, and escalating the situation.
So what is your point? Assault is okay, if you are frustrated because they are running the light? Have you ever jaywalked? Would you then feel that it was a proper response for a police officer to attack you and then arrest you for "trying to hit him"? Remember, after the assault, the police officer lied under oath, stating that the cyclist tried to run him down.
Critical mass are doing nothing more than trying to reclaim the streets for the people who wish to walk in clean air, and not breathe in masses of pollution created from the assholes who block up all the roads with their monstrous SUVs! It's amazing how some people will deny the evidence when presented so clearly with it. In the video not only is one cyclist knocked off, but it is clear many of the police are being physical with other cyclists.
It is also clear the police officer had unnecessarily assaulted the rider as a large number of passers by can be heard complaining about the way the police officer has reacted.
Arguing there "might" have been something preceding this clip, is like denying Evolution, ridiculous.

Critical Mass is a nuisance, vigilante-esque type group, which endeavors to force the city and it's residents to put up with mass "rallies" (generally at night, as you can see by the video) of them biking major thoroughfares, cutting off traffic, endangering not only other drivers, but pedestrians..... all the while yelling and shouting. Just what I want in my city and in my neighborhood!! They have no respect for their fellow citizens, nor the law.... they should be arrested.

.... and, as you can see from the video, they are attempting to stop the riders from entering the intersection on a light change. Same thing happens whenever there's a parade.... they stop the parade/event periodically, to allow crosstown traffic to proceed. The cyclists are ignoring the officers,and attempting to "sneak through". And, by the way, it's the crowd egging things on, and escalating the situation.

i understand that there are bad cops out there, just like any other profession, but some of the people who complain about cops tend to sound like there should be no consequences for ANY illegal action by a citizen. Here's a valuable lesson, if u dont mess with the police, u wont have ur ass kicked. This includes going to demonstrations or rallies where the crowd loves to antagonize the police. Its been my limited experience that law-abiding citizens don't have these problems with cops.

You have no way of proving that this guy didnt break the law or was asked to stop before this 50 SECONDS took place. Did you know that even bicycles have to obey all traffic rules when on the road? A few months ago here in Oakland an innocent man was pushed to the ground and then shot multiple times, while on the floor, because the police thought he was a murder suspect.
