Has anyone else noticed how the first half of the song ha almost the exact same groove and feel as 'My Enemy' by The Afghan Whigs? I love both songs, but it's practically identical....
I think it's awesome that such a profound and influential guitarist is working with such a little-known (at least stateside) band. It shows that he genuinely cares about the music, not the fame.
NME is aload of shit. They always slag of the Manic Street Preachers, for some reason, even though they change there sound so much. NME just love bands that are big at the time. They loved the Cribs but i bet they slate them for this album.
Great guitar intro, great vocals and lyrics. The Album no as good as there old stuff but still very much worth the listen.
Ok, a bit out of the loop as I live in NZ and seen JM play with the Finn cre a fair bit - what is this all about? these kids are doing alright without him? would it be like Morrisey doing a Guest vocal for BUSTED? are they still going?? only questions.....
don't worry you're not missing anything. unless that is,you like to read a magazine that tells you what is "cool" and what is not, according to its own taste in music. they have a tendancy to latch on to bands who are perceived as "cool" and who are gonna be "the next big thing" but then slag them off at the drop of a hat if they're not "down with the scene." just a load of journalists who think their opinion is more relevant than anyone elses.
One album there are way more before Johhny Marr and modest mouse sound like modest mouse, cribs sound like the cribs. Johnny Marr adds his own flavour but he doesn't change bands to what they are not.

I think this is a backward step for the cribs. Marr and the smiths were ledgendary, but his influence is overwhelming, and its leading the cribs astray. Get back to basics lads, you dont need any help, your brilliant on your own!
they would be hipsters by keeping their sound "raw" for their fans, becuase that would be keeping their sound the same the same so they don't loose fans. they and their music have progressed because they are creative people, and you can see that with each album the music has progressed

all marr did was make the cool unique sound the cribs had and made it mediocre the older tunes were much better the album is going to sound like something the smiths would produce getting nothing but hipsters and scenesters into the cribs and im sure they'll love that
im furious, they have lost the edge, they arn't half as sharp since they became a 4 piece, im a huge huge fan, but not loving the marr influence, i realy dont think he was needed
to be honest i think i have to agree slightly, they are a great band but they seem to have lost something, they sound like to many other indie bands now. still a decent tune but i prefare there earlier stuff (:
i agree except about being furious. i Really loved the old raw band before marr was added but this song isn't that bad. he definitely was not needed.(i kinda felt the old Cribs feel when the chorus came around)
Sorry, I beg your pardon...and I suppose your a Captain?! I didn't think so...
I don't think I could care any less than I already do about youtube users names but seeing as you care to remark about it, yours ain't too great either...so please don't waste my time idiot
Yeah, i know that. I don't like it here, either. Its because i live there, so it'd been easier to get tickets for Hull, and a good band actually came too Hull, the automatic, franz ferdinand, kaiser chiefs, the kooks, the rolling stones - have all been here, i don't know why though.. haha.
Pssh, i'm jealous now haha! I guess I left it late for tickets, ah well. I saw the automatic and the rakes at asylum. Hope you have a good time at the gig! And i'll be looking to see if you post any videos, haha :)
Yeah the sound will be a lot more 'full' than on the other records. It's going to be though with another guitarist on board. Marr doesn't have to sing like Jarman does, so can concentrate more on the guitar.
it says 7th september on their website... which would explain why they start touring that month to promote its release... seeing them on the 28th sept at hull!
Has anyone else noticed how the first half of the song ha almost the exact same groove and feel as 'My Enemy' by The Afghan Whigs? I love both songs, but it's practically identical....

what distortion does johnny marr use for the intro? cant seem to get that sound with my deville..
MrTeook 2 years ago
You can't say Johnny Marr has changed the band because the changes are so subtle.
It's not like their sound has dramatically changed, it seems like more of a natural progression.

I have to agree there are flashes of Modest Mouse in this song, that part at about 0:50 for example...

well johnny marr is from modest mouse...

YES WE KNOW. several comments before me discussed how much it sounded like them, some people disagreed and I had to chime in with my input. OK?
