It's not that we want them to make Remission II, Leviathan II or another Blood Mountain or that we don't like clean vocals but where the hell have the riffs gone on the new album?? The whole album sounds like a b-side release, couple of catchy vocal melodies but no good riffs or mindblowing experimentation for me - the intro to this track sounds like a rubbish slayer riff
Come on everybody. Metal in the 80's had many bands that could SING. DIO? I just listened to the whole new Mastodon album. It is really heavy, creative, even funny in parts-The Creature LIves is awesome, profound, hilarious. I love Mastodon, and this record is different but really great. The lyrics are a little serious, but in interviews the band said they wanted to have fun playing metal. They succeeded
I don't understand why people don't like this album. If it's because of the singing instead of screaming, really singing was the only way to go if they wanted to evolve, same thing with the experiments with new musical arrangements. even some of the more questionable songs off of the album i.e. Curl of the Burl and Creature Lives are pretty good. As for the rest of the songs, they sound familiar, but at the same time totally different, thus satisfying fans of their older stuff but at the same time reaching new audiences. It's genius
Not a fanatical Mastodon fan but I really liked 'crack the skye', like this song so I guess I'm gonna have a listen in the record shop. Read a review that this album could be seen as their 'black album'. Lets hope that is not excactly true cause then this would be their last great album.
no you cant say led zeppelin sounds like mastodon, that defeats the logic of the time space continuum, thats like saying a man that died a hundred years ago looks like me, but actually it would be vice versa. lol
@Hamgammy Speaking to AOL's Noisecreep, drummer Brann Dailor described the new material as not so much proggy as riff-oriented and "a little more stripped down," akin to that of Leviathan (2004) and "like a really super-heavy Led Zeppelin or something."
@magiktrix101 So that's what Dailor said what he thinks it sounds like, which is exactly what it doesn't sound like. So because he said it, you agree? Have you even heard of Led Zeppelin before or do you just take what your favourite musicians say as gospel?
@Hamgammy Yes, I have heard Led Zeppelin. Why don't you get off this video if you have such a problem with it. Why do you get a boner if you don't agree with someon's opinion?
So I called you out on having no real knowledge about bands, and you retort by sending dick jokes my way and calling me a troll? Wow. There is an obvious maturity gap here. I won't even waste my time on you anymore.
@Hamgammy If anyone is not being mature, it would be you. How ape shit can you go over youtube? If anyone has any right to say what this sounds like, it would be someone who was apart of making it. Don't get so mad over shit on youtube bro
@toThe9thPower Why, because I disagree with someone else that makes me immature? For starters, this argument does not involve you. Secondly, everyone has a right to say what this sounds like. It's called being a listener. I'll avoid tearing that comment apart to save your reputation on YouTube. Lastly, no one is mad here. To think you can judge emotion purely based on text alone on YouTube of all places is quite the claim and also, quite ludicrous, if you ask me. Please mind your own business.
@Hamgammy Not because you disagree, it is because of how much of a douche bag you are being right now. Claiming victory? are you fucking 12? If you do not want people to reply, DO NOT put comments in a public video. Also, I never said that you could not say what it sounds like, I was making a point that the drummer would have more right to say so before you. You are getting mad about this, implying otherwise is just silly. And once again, Don't put shit where other people can see it retard
@toThe9thPower I consider myself the biggest Mastodon fan out there. I've seen them the last three tours they've done in support of their albums. I whole-heartedly disagree with the claim that they sound like a "heavy Led Zeppelin" because I believe that is doing an immense disservice to both Mastodon and Led Zeppelin. They are both unique, pioneering a new blend of music but in no way do they sound like each other. Mastodon is Mastodon, their influences are clear, and they are an original band.
@Hamgammy THE DRUMMER EVEN SAID THIS, Your opinion is completely irrelevant compared to his. He makes the fucking music, you do not.. Be the biggest fan of them all you want, it changes nothing. If you love this band so much, why would you disagree with one of its members? and how can you say he is being immature when you are being a huge douche about all of this, and he is not even remotely confrontational??
Guess what? they sound just like a heavy Led Zeppelin, go ahead and rage about it bro
@Hamgammy I was a little too harsh on you. It's just a song, and everyone has their own opinions. And we should be more civil about it. But in MY opinion, it reminds me of a heavy Led Zeppelin. If you disagree then thats fine, I respect your opinion.
@jabberwocky1969 - Who the fuck gave Sony/Vevo/BMG/EMI/Virgin Records/etc the right to tell us where, when, & how we can listen to music, also what gave them the right to tell us what/who with/how we could listen to it?
The Mastodon brain trust of Hinds and Dailor get their weird lyrical ideas the old fashioned way: "It comes from us doing too much acid," Hinds says. "Acid is the best drug in the world. It did the most amazing things for my creative psyche, and it still is doing things for me."
The only problem with Mastodon is they have tons of talent but are really heavy LSD and Herion users. Acid trippers always talk about trees, the sky, water, large mountains and just things to do with the earth and universe in general. Go back and listen to some of the Acid Rock from the 60's and 70's. All about forests, mountains, bushes, stars, planets. HA When they get tired of the drugs, they will lose the ability to write. Like Metallica with no Alcohol.
I think we all knew that after an epic album like Crack The Skye these guys could still step up to the plate... everything Iv'e heard from The Hunter so far is flat out killer, Mastodon has become one of those few bands you can count on to deliver every time.
Yesterday when I was listening that song, my 13-year old brother came into my room without saying a word, and as I asked him what he wanted, he said "Shut the fuck up, you don't speak while listening Mastodon!"... The boy is fuckin right!
I am fifty years old , and i love these guys. Loved Remission, Leviathan, Blood Mountain, and really loved Crack the Skye. Great musicians and cool guys. I'm glad they piss off some people that want them to just remake the same songs again and again.
@JeffreyMulac8 I didn't hope they would make the same songs. They could have done some really cool sludge shit. We all know they can do cool vocal stuff from Remission to Blood Mountain. But what the fuck? They sound like metallica's new shit now. (vocal wise)
@briel Not sure if you've ever seen Mastodon live or seen their DVD, their vocals are their weakest point live. I think they were trying something new to make it easier for them to perform.
@Onamorata Here. Some songs rule, but yeah, seen as a whole I don't like it that much. And there's one track I always skip - it's that fast song with the dwarfish voices. Annoying as hell. Without the voices it would make a great instrumental track.
Every album they do is different from the next. What did ya'll expect out of this? Personally, I think this dominates so far! To think this would be just like Crack The Skye or anything they've done for that matter is kind of absurd. Especially if you know what Mastodon is like. I know on September 27th, I'll damn sure be at Best Buy though.
This song is fucking awesome. I've been a fan for a while, and while I'll always prefer Leviathan , Remission, etc over the newer music, it doesn't take away the fact that they are friggin ridiculously good musicians , and prove it with every album.
@hahasimp Mastodon has always been a prog-metal band. Elephant Man, Joseph Merrick (my fav), Pendulous Skin.....its all proggy and that's what makes them the bees knees.
I think Mastodon are exploring new ways of make music without leaving the Mastodon sound and I think to explore news ways is good for musicians, for a band and for the music. Sorry for my bad English.
Hopefully they incorporate at least a bit of keys into this album. I loved listening to the creepiness of the tracks of Crack the Skye thanks to them. RHCP also did an awesome job with it in their latest "I'm With You". Regardless, still excited for this album. Loved every single one of their albums they've released.
i dont think this new stuff is that great, i love mastodon i find myself not waanting to replay this and curl of the burl nothing stands out as bieng kick ass riff or anything eh its alright average
@TheToadSaidGo There's a number of trolls who roam youtube posting comments like that on videos for heavy metal songs. They're not serious; if they were, they wouldn't be on this page in the first place. Just ignore 'em.
Curl of the Burl is a good song with a kick ass riff, they arent going back to Remission so its time to deal with it. That isnt going to be the only surprise on this new album.
Curl of the Burl is okay, and no other Mastodon song (in my opinion) is just okay. I was disappointed but I still have a feeling that this album is gonna be great
Blood Mountain IS better then Crack The Skye..lol..Crack The Skye had its moments and I did like it, but I understand thats an album that was going to divide their fans..Its to a point where fans of Remission and Leviathan are like what the fuck happened to these guys? lol If this album sounds similar to this song or resembles Crack The Skye they might of finally lost their touch. Esp cuz the singing hasnt been Mastodon quality..Like in "Quintessence" - "Letting go, Letting goooo" Hahaha
I love how this band has progressed. every album is great and sounds different from the previous. probably one of my favorite metal bans of all time. LONG LIVE MASTODON!!!

So I called you out on having no real knowledge about bands, and you retort by sending dick jokes my way and calling me a troll? Wow. There is an obvious maturity gap here. I won't even waste my time on you anymore.
Hamgammy 5 months ago
@Hamgammy Have a nice day.
magiktrix101 5 months ago
@Hamgammy If anyone is not being mature, it would be you. How ape shit can you go over youtube? If anyone has any right to say what this sounds like, it would be someone who was apart of making it. Don't get so mad over shit on youtube bro
toThe9thPower 5 months ago
@toThe9thPower Why, because I disagree with someone else that makes me immature? For starters, this argument does not involve you. Secondly, everyone has a right to say what this sounds like. It's called being a listener. I'll avoid tearing that comment apart to save your reputation on YouTube. Lastly, no one is mad here. To think you can judge emotion purely based on text alone on YouTube of all places is quite the claim and also, quite ludicrous, if you ask me. Please mind your own business.
Hamgammy 5 months ago
@Hamgammy Not because you disagree, it is because of how much of a douche bag you are being right now. Claiming victory? are you fucking 12? If you do not want people to reply, DO NOT put comments in a public video. Also, I never said that you could not say what it sounds like, I was making a point that the drummer would have more right to say so before you. You are getting mad about this, implying otherwise is just silly. And once again, Don't put shit where other people can see it retard
toThe9thPower 5 months ago
@toThe9thPower I consider myself the biggest Mastodon fan out there. I've seen them the last three tours they've done in support of their albums. I whole-heartedly disagree with the claim that they sound like a "heavy Led Zeppelin" because I believe that is doing an immense disservice to both Mastodon and Led Zeppelin. They are both unique, pioneering a new blend of music but in no way do they sound like each other. Mastodon is Mastodon, their influences are clear, and they are an original band.
Hamgammy 5 months ago
@Hamgammy THE DRUMMER EVEN SAID THIS, Your opinion is completely irrelevant compared to his. He makes the fucking music, you do not.. Be the biggest fan of them all you want, it changes nothing. If you love this band so much, why would you disagree with one of its members? and how can you say he is being immature when you are being a huge douche about all of this, and he is not even remotely confrontational??
Guess what? they sound just like a heavy Led Zeppelin, go ahead and rage about it bro
toThe9thPower 5 months ago
@Hamgammy I was a little too harsh on you. It's just a song, and everyone has their own opinions. And we should be more civil about it. But in MY opinion, it reminds me of a heavy Led Zeppelin. If you disagree then thats fine, I respect your opinion.
magiktrix101 5 months ago
@magiktrix101 Alright we'll leave it at that. Bickering among fans is stupid anyway, we should just enjoy the great music.

Awesome, thanks Mastodon for keeping it brutal. Don't mellow out like Opeth did.

The Mastodon brain trust of Hinds and Dailor get their weird lyrical ideas the old fashioned way: "It comes from us doing too much acid," Hinds says. "Acid is the best drug in the world. It did the most amazing things for my creative psyche, and it still is doing things for me."
byzantine75 5 months ago
The only problem with Mastodon is they have tons of talent but are really heavy LSD and Herion users. Acid trippers always talk about trees, the sky, water, large mountains and just things to do with the earth and universe in general. Go back and listen to some of the Acid Rock from the 60's and 70's. All about forests, mountains, bushes, stars, planets. HA When they get tired of the drugs, they will lose the ability to write. Like Metallica with no Alcohol.
byzantine75 5 months ago
this is like a really good band becoming really watered down and boring.

Just like Crack the Skye, this definitely has the 'epic masterpiece' feel to it!
bluesplus1 5 months ago
this is sounding like crake the skye having a baby with leviathan
Maxpow33r 5 months ago
''I burned out my eyes, you can run at the sea or the forest'' lyrics + heavy epic feel makes Jack a very fun boy.

this is now my favoret Mastodon song of all time
pete7wiegard 5 months ago
Do yourself a favour and have a listen to Delusion Twin.. I'd start with the track called 'A Damaged Machine', it's heavy as fuck
ktrel54 5 months ago
Again with another showing of brilliance. Mastodon is the omega.
666brutalcore 5 months ago
This goes right up with the new Machine Head and Opeth. If not better in a lot of ways. Awesome.:)

epic...so fucking epic...
HolyWar2009 5 months ago
I think we all knew that after an epic album like Crack The Skye these guys could still step up to the plate... everything Iv'e heard from The Hunter so far is flat out killer, Mastodon has become one of those few bands you can count on to deliver every time.

A bit more like blood mountain. Prefer the style of Crack The Skye, but this is still classic Mastodon
joshobj 5 months ago
This is gonna be another awesome album. Not surprised. Mastodon fucking deliver! !
Mattme0828 5 months ago
Yesterday when I was listening that song, my 13-year old brother came into my room without saying a word, and as I asked him what he wanted, he said "Shut the fuck up, you don't speak while listening Mastodon!"... The boy is fuckin right!
theultimateMisfit 5 months ago 4
I am fifty years old , and i love these guys. Loved Remission, Leviathan, Blood Mountain, and really loved Crack the Skye. Great musicians and cool guys. I'm glad they piss off some people that want them to just remake the same songs again and again.

@JeffreyMulac8 I have a feeling The Hunter is going to be a masterpiece. Glad you enjoy'd
magiktrix101 5 months ago 16
@JeffreyMulac8 Iam 40 and my sons turned on to this amazing stuff
timthewelder1 5 months ago
@JeffreyMulac8 I didn't hope they would make the same songs. They could have done some really cool sludge shit. We all know they can do cool vocal stuff from Remission to Blood Mountain. But what the fuck? They sound like metallica's new shit now. (vocal wise)
briel 5 months ago
Deathbound was awesome, why didn't they go along those lines with the vocals? Fuck this album, worst disappointment in metal imo.
briel 5 months ago
@briel Not sure if you've ever seen Mastodon live or seen their DVD, their vocals are their weakest point live. I think they were trying something new to make it easier for them to perform.
Hamgammy 5 months ago
Damnnnn... I bet that anyone who likes Mastodon will fucking love Delusion Twin
ktrel54 5 months ago
Random question... Is there any Mastodon fan who think that as a whole, Blood Mountain is there least favorite Mastodon album?
Onamorata 5 months ago
@Onamorata Not me! It's my fave. :)
MrCallofthemastodon 5 months ago
@Onamorata I do. I just couldn't get into most of the songs
Levioshock 5 months ago
@Onamorata Here. Some songs rule, but yeah, seen as a whole I don't like it that much. And there's one track I always skip - it's that fast song with the dwarfish voices. Annoying as hell. Without the voices it would make a great instrumental track.
CasimirFolskovic 5 months ago
@CasimirFolskovic Bladecatcher that is. Uarggh.
CasimirFolskovic 5 months ago
@Onamorata In my opinion Blood Mountian is their best... It's a freaking music bible!
marcoliveira0641 5 months ago
Every album they do is different from the next. What did ya'll expect out of this? Personally, I think this dominates so far! To think this would be just like Crack The Skye or anything they've done for that matter is kind of absurd. Especially if you know what Mastodon is like. I know on September 27th, I'll damn sure be at Best Buy though.
mcbm1991 5 months ago
They need to be a body on the hunter and put subwoofer speakers inside and they can sell em :)
leemer5 5 months ago
It's definitely different, hope the rest of the albums a masterpiece.
RippednNTan 5 months ago
This song is fucking awesome. I've been a fan for a while, and while I'll always prefer Leviathan , Remission, etc over the newer music, it doesn't take away the fact that they are friggin ridiculously good musicians , and prove it with every album.
thistimeitswar 5 months ago
@hahasimp Mastodon has always been a prog-metal band. Elephant Man, Joseph Merrick (my fav), Pendulous Skin.....its all proggy and that's what makes them the bees knees.
Sidjohn87 5 months ago
This album is gonna kick so much fuckin ass!!!!!! Sept 27 could not come any faster!
CaptainGinyu91 6 months ago
I think Mastodon are exploring new ways of make music without leaving the Mastodon sound and I think to explore news ways is good for musicians, for a band and for the music. Sorry for my bad English.
Requen4 6 months ago
is mastodon slowly changing into a prog metal band? i have nothing against it, just saying
hahasimp 6 months ago
Hopefully they incorporate at least a bit of keys into this album. I loved listening to the creepiness of the tracks of Crack the Skye thanks to them. RHCP also did an awesome job with it in their latest "I'm With You". Regardless, still excited for this album. Loved every single one of their albums they've released.

i dont think this new stuff is that great, i love mastodon i find myself not waanting to replay this and curl of the burl nothing stands out as bieng kick ass riff or anything eh its alright average

Curl of the Burl is a good song with a kick ass riff, they arent going back to Remission so its time to deal with it. That isnt going to be the only surprise on this new album.
freekdaddy123 6 months ago
Curl of the Burl is okay, and no other Mastodon song (in my opinion) is just okay. I was disappointed but I still have a feeling that this album is gonna be great
TheToadSaidGo 6 months ago
Whew, Curl of the Burl scared me s bit. Hopefully the album sounds more like this
metaldude4563 6 months ago
It sounds like Primordial, not like Led Zeppelin.
Ric0575 6 months ago
Blood Mountain IS better then Crack The Skye..lol..Crack The Skye had its moments and I did like it, but I understand thats an album that was going to divide their fans..Its to a point where fans of Remission and Leviathan are like what the fuck happened to these guys? lol If this album sounds similar to this song or resembles Crack The Skye they might of finally lost their touch. Esp cuz the singing hasnt been Mastodon quality..Like in "Quintessence" - "Letting go, Letting goooo" Hahaha
TheMeister31 6 months ago
@TheMeister31 haha I love that part in Quintessence, and I'm a fan of all of their albums
