When I was watching this movie, I felt like I was going to have a nervous breakdown. .. But it was a great movie, and really eye opening. .. over one hundred years of having vehicles, and the average MPG is 20, that sounds impossible. ..
On the part of the oil companies, I don't think it was greed. Gasoline was their livelihood and scientists were inventing ways to make their livelihood obsolete. I would guess that is the way they saw it. Plus, they had to keep people under their thumb, and if there was technology emerging that made people feel more independent and free, well they just couldn't have that. They had to invent a way to make themselves necessary. Buying up patents and controlling technology was a way.
@firesong888 I'm not trying to excuse their behavior, I'm just trying to underscore the point that they (these gas commodities people) do not have the interest of their fellow man at heart. They do not see humans, they see buyers. It has always been that way. So, in response, we have to fight them like they are our slave masters and win our freedom, because I assure you, they will not give it to us willingly.
Everyone needs to stop letting major companies like Shell cripple us with their greed. We need to take it upon ourselves to fix up our cars like this Buick. It could be a kind of automotive revolution. If we keep on waiting for major companies to accept this, this change will never happen.
