I'm laughing! When I was in high school, there were some deaf (!) parents who thoght that I shouldn't be honored with awards just because I was not born in the U.S. Their children did not work as hard as I did in such new languages. Well, I did graduate as a class valedictorian and there were some parents and classmates who were not happy. In Gallaudet College, I was also made aware that some professors were not enthusiastic about my Thomas Watson fellowship, a top award. Working hard is best!
