I have a green terror, bumblebee cichlid, jack demp, and a baby jack, and a few other semi aggressive fish (that are at least 4-7in) and they all do fine....except for the barbs i moved in because i didn't want to keep my 10 gallon....OOPS
i been have n this problem with my GT i have 1 2" jag 2 green terror 11/2" the other about 3" then i have 2 jack dempsey 1 about 2" the other 3" my problem is the1 i got the smallest green terror like 2months before any of the other fish at first he was eating grate but now he runs from the food like hes scard weather wet or dry fd. all the fish have out grown him n the last month n a half do you know of ne thing i cld do to get him to eat pls let me know wht you think pls and thank u
cool fish but im angry my fish are feeder fish they make good fish with other herbavors but i hould warn you FEEDER FISH HAVE A CHEMICAL IN THEM THAT TAKE OUT VITIMEN B so feed em pelleds
I had a small Green Terror but my adult Fire Mouth beat him to shit. He died this morning. I am going to get another and raise him in a separate tank.
It is fine to feed Greens feeder fish as long as it isnt comets/goldfish and such. Those arent very good for them, moderation is the key.
A JD will bother pretty much everything, including a convict. Depends how bold your convict is if it lives or not. I personaly owned a Red Zebra Mbuana African Cichlid and it RAPED a full grown JD and could easily fend off a jaguar. Keep in mind, this Red Zebra was very abnormally large and aggressive.
i want 2 get a couple of these, male and female, how do i sex them? what do they cost? how big a tank do they need?what ratio of male to female do i use?
not sure how much others are paying or what a breeding pair of terrors are worth but i got mine 15$ for both the male is about 8" and the female is about 5-6"
hey i noticed that you also have a convict in with the green terror. i was wondering how they get along? does the convict get enough to eat? do they fight? or anything else i should know? was thinking of getting one of each, also if i get a male GT (because they're more colorful) does it matter if the convict is male or female? thanks for any info
Yes. They do fight occasionally. It's a very tense environment for them. Since the video was taken, the Green Terror died. So the tank now just contains a Pleco and 2 convicts. It's much more peaceful.
i need help i got a new tank my 1st and i have one ghost shrimp and 2 minnows and a gold cleaner snail. the problem is that the one of the 2 minnows bother the shrimp alot what should i do, if i had more shrimp i think they would be fine are the minnows the aggressive type
my convict (male) is about 10 cm long, He has very good colours, and the he flares his red gills at the female and then they lay eggs and then they eat them
I think it is amazing how the U.S and U.K differ when it comes to opinions on feeder fish. It would be interesting to hear what side of the fence the rest of the world stand. I must admit I'm not a fan.
With an abundance of frozen and freeze dried foods out there I actually think its terrible to feed live fish to your green terror. Your green terror does look healthy but my one who has never been fed any live food is outstanding compared to yours.
cosworthlady, please destroy your keyboard to save the rest of us from reading your ignorant posts. "outstanding compared to yours" .............dot dot dot dot.....
Yes I understand completely, but feeding them feeder fish is much more natural.. Some fish prefer feeder fish over freeze dried/frozen foods. My oscar used to eat frozen food, but when I gave it live fish it was much more happy (in my opinion).
man my fish were perfectly normal until i fed them some feeders and all of a suden they come out with ick well not ick but they have mybe around 4 white spots on them so i took action and put them in a medical tank and put some medicene in for them...i alwready lost a jack dempsey to ick and im not tryna lose any more
if any of you people actually bothered to take the time to research your fish and their feeding preferences and practices you would know that in captivity the practice of using feeder fish is deemed to be unnecessary and in fact potentially harmful. When one type of fish only is fed (goldfish for example) your pet fish runs a high risk of vitamin deficiencies for a start. The green terror is omnivorous and therefore can be happily and healthily kept in captivity without the need for feeder fish.
An interesting phenomenon happens after I feed them live fish. They actually become more aggressive, and rush to the front of the aquarium glass, and flare their gills at me.
I also notice that their colors become more brilliant.
i have a green terror 3 iches in length. it lives with my pacu and it is very stressed because of the pacus size and agression. i ve a small community tank of serpae tetras and small sword tails and redline barbs and three cardinal tetras as well. if i put the green terror with them does he eat cardinals and serpae tetras?
I agree with the 1st comment. I have keep large cichlids for 20 years and never feed them live fish. you can buy large cichlids food and blocks of frozen blood worm and brine shrimp, which is ideal for these fish if not better.
tushay you non american newb, ill keep feeding my fish the same way shimsand does and we will continue to enjoy, but we seriously thank you for your wonderful and and useful comments.
Doesnt everyone know that in the wild, pellets fall from the trees and the fish dont have a need to eat any other animals? So cruel lol, I sure hope you don't eat any meat whatsoever and complain about this because then you are a hypocrit :)

Ah shit man...was it anything to do with feedign them feeders? i just want to know before i get the idea of doing it.
I heard predatory fish and big cichlids who eat Goldfish and Minnows tend to get health problems due to excess of fat and lack of protien
GlenShortland 2 years ago
It is ok to feed feeders every once and a while, but be sire to feed other things such as crickets, worms, pellets, river shrimp (prawns) also.
