But on the other hand I think that the traditional position of the left on immigration needs to be examined. I criticize the left as an ardent socialist.
Although professionals such as doctors, lawyers, professors, accountants and CEO's don't have to worry about illegal immigrants "taking their jobs," blue collar workers DO have to worry about it, since they are competing with the immigrants for these kinds of jobs.
If employers were subject to stronger penalties for hiring illegal immigrants instead of people who are legally in the country, those jobs would either have to go workers who are legally here or the employer would go under because he couldn't pay the higher cost of legal labor, in addition to benefits, payroll taxes and workers' compensation insurance.
I think that illegal immigrants are human beings who are just looking for a better way of life, so I'm not one who is trying to bash them.
First off, Chomsky has been my intellectual and moral hero for the last decade, when I first read his work.
But his statement that illegal immigrants do not take work away from construction workers is dubious. I don't doubt that illegal immigrants do difficult work that American citizens would not do (i.e., migrant farm work).
However, there is no denying that illegal immigrants take jobs away from lower-educated blue collar workers and manual laborers.
Schlosser's "Reefer Madness" explains allot about Illegal Immigration and Black Market operations in general. Schlosser compares Illegals to Medieval serfs. Chomsky does touch on it here. Schlosser gave a good example of the meat packing industry. A meat cutter in the 70's made a good wage and turnover was low. Now they are low paying jobs and the working conditions are terrible. Maybe comparable when Sinclair wrote "The Jungle".
Palin is too ridiculous to be taken seriously. With the match-up polls I've seen, the only one who beats Obama, and that is within the margin of error of the poll, is Romney.
corporate outsourcing has done more to harm that construction worker (and many other workers for that matter) then all the immigrants (both legal and illegal) in the history of this country-----notice how his animus is turned toward the victims of society and not at the masters of society
@KentAllard Mainly large multinational corporations It's estimated that about 6 corporations own the entire media including Viacom Rupert Murdoch's Newscorp Disney Time Warner/AOL General Electric CBS only the Shadow can stop this evil hahahahhahaahhaha
His animus is not directed at the media or the corporations who fund the media, but rather towards scapegoats for society's ills like "undocumented workers" etc. etc.
Here's the main problem--------corporations have outsourced a significant amount of the productive economy-----and also downsized/automated a large part of the rest-----which has made the job market very cutthroat for many people---It's easy to turn their animosity towards "undocumented workers" and the like
Business loves illegal Immigrants, there is were the problem lay.
