  • james mc avoy is the next leo de caprio. Absolutely talented, absolutely cheated at every award

  • Knightley was nominated for a BAFTA, of course she was brilliant.

  • all three of the actresses that played briony were brilliant. Even though briony causes so much pain she isn't portrayed as a villain just a young girl with an over-active imagination who made a terrible mistake. robbies dialogue in this scene is what briony thought of herself, critizing herself for the awful thing she did :( so sad

  • one of the best period films!!

  • I know I am wrong but I always felt like Briony loved Robbie.I mean the way she looks at him, it's not only regret I see in her eyes...

  • McAvoy is incredible in this scene.

  • so did this actually happen or was it what briny made up in her book?

  • @starsandrockets09 This is what Briony made up. The two of them never reunited once Robbie left for the war.

  • what is the music that is playing at the end of the scene called on the soundtrack??

  • By the way, I would like to ask, the dying guy who Briony treated (speaking French) in the hospital, the one whom she loosen his bandage, is that the guy who advised Robbie not to shout in his sleep, and promises him that he'll wake Robbie up when it's morning?

  • @SilauProduction no i don't think it is. Robbies friend was english. I think that the guy in the hospital just had severe brain damage from his head wound and thought briony was some other girl he knew :) x

  • Thank you so much, I wanted to watch this movie again since I can't remember what it's all about anymore. But at this scene, the movie stuck, probably because of the scratches on the DVD, and it can continue while Briony being interviewed and explained what exactly happened (truth on what happened to Cecilia and Robbie).

  • James is outstanding.

  • Angry James is hot James. The noises he makes while kissing in this movie! hnng.

  • 6.02-6.12

  • i can'r watch! She was a youg girl who made a mistake everyone makes mistake's.

  • @99999999999999998674 but her "mistake" caused so much pain to him and to cecilia, i dont think it was a mistake, yes she was young but had 13 and was capable of understanding the difference between what is goo and not....she knew what she was doing, she knew it wasnt him then again decided not to tell the truth...=P i really love this movie.

  • @venus0587 yeah, after all girls matured a lot earlier than boys, and how she kept the truth until she's dying is just heartbreaking. Say if she had told the truth, Robbie would never have to go to war, he would become a doctor perhaps. Cecilia instead of being a nurse, could live easily drinking evening tea in her home looking after theirs' children.

  • Loved this scene, how Cecilia kept tracking Robbie, she knew he'd lose it and wanted to stop him from doing something he might regret. Great job by all three.

  • So many beautiful shots, the direction on this is so amazing... The way Robbie flies past her, Cecilia and Robbie kissing in the window... It's such a fucking masterpiece...

  • briony grew so tall!

  • oh . my . god . james mcavoy. he... is just... buhhhealktrjh i love him this film is so upsetting and i had shivers of anger but at the same time he is so sexy when he's angry!

  • That's all I'm hearing "Come back, Come back to me" FUCK I love this movie

  • james looks very like gerard butler here. maybe if gerard butler was anorexic.

  • @t5y665yrty56 I think they´re very alike, but perhaps because both are scottish... It´s like they speak or express the same way... Don´t you think?

  • they were in that irish movie inside im dancing as well.

  • Thanks for posting this I just read teh book and it was absolutely brilliant! Thanks a lot! =)

  • did anyone see that Robbie was spitting while he yelled and fuck you Briony

  • such a well acted scene , its perfect in every way , this movie is just so bloody good ,well done to all the actors & joe wright :)

  • I read the book. Honestly, I love reading this part rather than watching it. Overall, this movie is brilliant and I think it was cheated at the Oscars.

  • I fail to understand how James McAvoy didn't even get nominated for an Oscar. His performance was so powerful. Same goes to Romola Garai.

  • wonderful movie

  • james mcavoy is incredible in this scene!

  • keira is amazing in this flm,but i have no idea what happened to her accent in this scene, it didnt sound like that for the rest of the film!!!

  • She became more formal (icily posh sounding) because of the huge tension perhaps ?

  • Garai and McAvoy are brilliant in this scene. And I don't understand all the Knightley hate, I don't think she's brilliant but I don't think she's awful either. She's passable enough not to be distracting, so I don't see why she should be loathed so

  • So not good quality. It's all squished. I mean, Keira Knightly's thin, but not that thin.

  • James McAvoy is no doubt a genius when it comes to acting. He should have been given an Oscar just for this scene alone.

And Keira was a little bit overacting, I do agree at this point!

  • it just on the contrary. brokeback mountain copied atonement. this fim is based on a book which was in novel published 2001. the film is very faitful to the novel. maybe you should do some research before make such a comment

  • they do. towards the end, robbie is getting stressed and cecilia says 'robbie come back'

  • @maya06227

idont know about this exact scene but they do use it in the book

she finishes all her letters to him with "come back"

  • She finishes every letter with "I love you, I'll wait for you, come back" and the impression is given that this is what she says to him when hes taken away by the police, but we only see this scene from a distance from Brionys point of view.

  • Personally, I reckon everyone in this scene, in this entire movie, was fantastic, even and especially Keira Knightley. I don't think she overreacted - I thought she was perfect.

  • they're both perfect! :)

  • when briony said: "i'm very very sorry" she's like a doll ^.^

a final scene explained that - this situation was only on her mind... that's not fair!

  • Keira's voice in this is ridiculous

  • I agree.

  • I love the look on Briony's face when Cecilia kisses him. And the way she says "I am very very sorry" makes me well up. Brilliant scene.

  • James McAvoy is so amazing here... especially the part where he snaps at her, it's mesmerizing, I can't stop watching it. He deserved the Oscar.

  • I'm still disappointed that neither McAvoy or Garai were nominated for this movie. This film was so cheated at the Oscars!

  • @FantasmaLuna

Indeed. Knightley should've been nominated as well. Such a passionate performance there, classic romantic heroine. Actually, my line-up for that year is Ronan, Garai, Redgrave and Knightley as best supporting actresses... yeh, I can't help it, all of them were that amazing!

  • @oscarfun100 I agree. As an actress, I think Knightley has her ups and downs, but she's developed really well and in this film she sort of reminds me of Ingrid Bergman, especially in this scene. They all did a fantastic job, even the minor characters. Maybe it's due to Joe Wright's directing and why he wasn't even nominated for Best Director is a mystery to me.

  • @FantasmaLuna

Mystery indeed. The academy does such stupid things sometimes... well, many times, lol, like 2002, Moulin Rouge! and Baz Luhrmann did not get a nod...which was hilarious, kinda like this Joe Wright snub. But 2002 was even funnier cause Ron Howard did get a nomination for A Beautiful Mind... and he won... for that direction... lmao

  • @FantasmaLuna I totally agree, his acting was awesome!!!

  • I lurve this scene...

'I don't expect you to forgive me-'

    'Oh, don't worry, I won't.'

Oh man, that's COLD. Cecelia is one fierce bitch, I love her.

  • the boiling kettle and the unmade bed are great touches.

  • This is amazing! For a start its the most powerful scene in the film (one of MANY) and tis acted so wonderfully...oh!

AND it has to be the sexiest confrontation scene EVER. oof.

  • You should check out James and Romola in "Inside I'm' Dancing". They both do great Dublin accents. James's accent is particularly impressive, one of the best Irish accents I've heard from a non Irish actor; actually including Irish actors because Pierce Brosnan is Irish and can't do an Irish accent.

  • I really love the way how cecilia can comfort Robbie. She can make him calm again by saying 'please come back.' I love it

  • the way he says "growing up" always gets me! his acting is brilliant!

  • What about when he says "There are soldiers of 18 old enough to..." His expression is heart-wrenching!

  • Why is the curtain moving like that in the end? The window's not opened, right? Looks stupid.

  • If you look closely, one of the glasses of the window is missing. But, anyway, I think is a way the director is using to tell us: this is a bit unreal, don't you think?

  • You're probably right!

  • this is the best acting scene I guess I have ever seen!! you can feel the emotions..

  • When Briony say's 'I want to go infront of a judge and change my evidence '

Why does Cecelia say 'don't call me that'?

    It doesnt make sense

    Whe

  • She says, "I want to go in front of a judge and change my evidence, Cee" which is what they used to call Cecelia back before the crime.

  • Thanks ,

I watched the dvd with the subs on and saw that she ended the sentence with cee

    Now it makes sense

    Terrific scene

  • Amazing scene , everybody is terrific

But gotta say , McAvoy is outstanding

  • This is an amazing film, I haven't seen anything with this much depth and intensity other than maybe gladiator. Well done James McAvoy, on being so true to the character and what he would've felt. I am humbled by your talent...

  • romola garai was amazing, infact she and the little girl who played briony at age 13 were amazing

  • This movie is a masterpiece! (so is the book OF COURSE)It really has some memorable scenes, like this one, the one in the cafeteria and, of course, the library scene. The Dunkirk scene, the vase scene, oh my God! I love this movie so much!

  • I love this Film! (Eu amo este filme!)

  • i totally agree, some actors are just liked for their looks, but james mcavoy is a really brilliant actor AND is bloody gorgeous. He has totally got the entire package.

  • yep this is like one of the best scenes in the movie. I like how Mcavoy blurted everything out. My sister (who doesn't know any of its spoilers) was really happy to see Robbie 'back'...

Another fave was when Cecilia said, Please don't call me that...

  • I love Jame McAvoy's acting and all..I just thought it was a little odd and unnatural to insert some of the random make-out bits in there. I'm guessing the director did that to make you doubt whether it really happened or not.

  • I like this scene very much. James McAvoy's playing very good. I still love to see it though I can already recite it.

  • good scene really intense thanks for sharing hun =) xox <33

  • you're welcome! It's one of my fave scenes out of the entire movie! It's so intense! James is brilliant in that scene!

  • He is...I think he is such a brilliant Actor hes beautiful and gorgeous and on top of that hes got great acting skills! James McAvoy has got the whole package! LOL =)

  • He does, indeed, have the whole package, doesn't he? ;)

  • oh indeed he does my dear lol! =)

  • totally agree!

  • wow...really wow

but what is the significance of the old women in the street?

  • She apparently has some mental disorder (thinks that she's taking out her little baby) - like Robbie. Cecilia has to calm him down with the frace (which is comforting for him): "Come back, come back to me". That's my theory (even though I haven't actually seen the whole film yet..).

  • no he doesnt have a 'mental disability' its just anger. the 'come back to me' bit is a motif bit of dialogue used throughout the whole film. Watch the whole thing and you'll work it out.

  • Its her way of comforting him she says it a couple of times throughout the film but because he has suffered so much being through prison and war she helps him ease his pain by allowing him to focus on her so that he forgets the pain and the anger and he realizes how much he loves her and that its better to let it go. Watch the whole movie and you'll get it I swear watching the previews it does seem a bit odd but it comes together in the end. =)

  • she's not mad. you should read the book.

  • so intense

  • wow what a powerful scene.. james mcavoy is awesome

  • James McAvoy said the action he was playing was to try and not kill Briony... I think that's so powerful.

  • I love this part. James McAvoy makes you feel every tiny tear of pain that he had shed! Really, when I saw that in the theatre I got scared of him (I grabbed my friends arm when he was about to lounge at Briony). Fantastic acting in this scene

  • this is definetly one of my favourites scenes...gosh,we just can feel Robbie's pain and anger...just give me chills!

  • oh i dont mind. i have the film. but thx for asking, and if u want u can post so tht others thn me can enjoy it :)

  • i love this film. though my favorite scene is when briony asks robbie if he would save her if she fell in the water.

thx for the scene anyhow :)

  • I can post it if you want me to...

  • my fav scene in the movie.

did you buy the movie yet?

i guessing thats how you got this scene lol.

  • One of my fave scenes too!

    I didn't buy it yet, no ...
