  • Bronies, think of it this way... If this song did not exist, then neither would Art of the Dress. They are both great songs in their own right, but one would not exist without the other, and it is not Art of the Dress. Please consider that before you post along with the ethos of MLP which is "Love and Tolerance."

  • I like the my little pony one more i just came here to see what it sounds like

    no offence Barbara

  • I'm a diehard Rarity fan. But this is better. Ponies aside. The song in general is put together much better.

  • If you come here to make fun of this song, for no good reason, and unprovoked, how much of a Brony are you? If I've learned anything from MLP its that you don't just harass people for no reason.

  • I like both the original and Rarity's version of it. They are both different in there own ways. Glad that this wonderful song influenced the wonderful song that is in MLP. <3

  • Rarity wouldn't hate on Barbra, you guys. You have to respect the original artist. Yeah, Rarity's song is awesome but Barbra's a legend.

  • @bettaman94 LOL

  • Streisand and Sondheim - it's a PERFECT combination!!!!

  • This is wonderful! Sure I may not want to listen to it every waking second, but does anyone really?

    (also ponies)

  • Mandy Patinkin will always be my favorite singing this. Just FYI for everyone: Putting It Together, music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim as part of the musical Sunday in the Park with George(1984).

  • i love him too

  • Great Motivational music. It doesn't matter what your planning!!!!

  • Even if they're basically the same song, this song and art of dress are so different of each other, it is even weird to compare them

  • Comment removed

  • My Little Pony brought me to this song. And this song ROCKS!!! Barbara has THE voice!

  • Art of the Dress= Good.

Putting it together sung by Barbra Streisand= Good too.

Both are awesome, bronies and non bronies, please accpet the opinions and move on.

Awesome video :) ,3 this song.

  • Holy shit, this song is awesome!

  • I, too, would rather listen to this than Art Of The Dress. Maybe that's because I'm not a huge fan of Rarity though.

  • *raises umbrella

Quite the shit storm out today, the pegusi really out done themselves.

  • im a brony. i love Barbara Streisand. both songs are equally amazing. NOW SHUT THE HELL UP.

  • lo,l rarutuuiy

  • I am a brony.

I also say that this song is way better than Art of the Dress.

  • Oh how I love you Barbra! I really hope that my fellow Bronies can see the beauty of this song. ;w;

  • Yo, this song is awesome yet even more complicated than Art of Dress! But that's part of what makes it awesome! Don't think I'll be able to learn this song, ever. But it's still nice to listen to.

  • Lots of bronies around here...

  • Bronies, bronies everywhere

  • @MightyQuinn2021 And not a drop to drink.

  • @HarryPotter3700 I see what you did there

  • @MightyQuinn2021 i'm 10 so what is a bronie

  • I think it's awesome how this new show, "My Little Pony Friendship is Magic," gave us a little blast from the past. Repect the classics man!

  • @CompletelyNewguy Some people just don't get that the classics should have the most credit for being the fresh ones. I mean come on that's what counts you just have to make the connections.

  • This (the original) version is way more intense. Plus, I ove the words "the art of making art"

But Daniel inagram's is more lively.

    Oh god...both are so good!!

  • Sure, MLP has the catchier version, but Rarity's singing VA has nothing on Barbra Streisand! :P

  • i prefer the MLP version because it is much catchier, i listened to this version and i didn't like it much ( however i do understand that this song doesn't have the editing the MLP version has and that's why it feels a bit incomplete to me) i am not bashing the song

  • Suddenly, bronies <3

  • rarity is a marshmellow

  • @Lemonteardrops17 I agree with love and tolerance. I am a brony yet I think this is better.

  • Rarity is awesome...She is the NEW BARBRA STREISAND.

  • @DerpyScootaloo Except she looks better...

  • @cheesewheel ^^THIS

  • @LordFluffiness OH GOD

    SO TRUE

  • i just dont hear it. i hear an awesome song. but i dont hear how another awesome song came out of this >n<

  • BARBURA BARBURA

  • Heard this song in music class and jizzed my pants- I was rocking out in the back of the classroom singing about dresses.

  • Wow! Awesome song! And guys, maybe Art of the Dress was just a tribute to this? Please calm down.

  • Dear fellow Bronies; Please stop it with the "OMFG THIS IS STUPID ART OF THE DRESS IS FAR BETTER" and all that. Yes, Art of the Dress was amazing, but remember; Love and Tolerance.

As for the the Barbara Streisand fans, please excuse us, we don't mean to be intrusive. This is a fantastic song, some of us are just are more opinionated than others. We don't mean to start any flamewars.

  • @Lemonteardrops17

I agree completely with this poster. Art of the dress was good, but why do you think they chose to parody This song? Because it's good too, that's why. Why do you have to pick one and scorn the other?

Just shut up, and enjoy having a variety of music to choose from.

  • @Lemonteardrops17 Wow, I'm glad someone here actually gets it. Love and Tolerance, you're doing it right. I salute you fellow brony.

  • @Lemonteardrops17 That and also THIS SONG WAS WRITTEN IN 1984/1985! Of course the remake would be a bit better, it's over 20 years later, so there is a LOT of time to remake the song. That and new we have new technology and instruments so there are new ways to pay the song. Both of them are great and for two different reasons also.

  • @KitsuneJimmy (forgot this part) and the original is much more of an intense fast paced song, while Art of the Dress is slower paced, which is an example of a reason for them to be great. The intensity makes this version great and something very different to listen to, while the MLP version is slowed down abit but has more modern instruments playing the melody.

  • @Lemonteardrops17 ....RARITY IS BETTER!!!!!

  • @Cirnoscarlet9 Are you serious.

  • @Joellee3000 This is a brony comment XD

  • @Cirnoscarlet9 Way to undermine her point. I hope you're happy with yourself.

  • @Lemonteardrops17 true dat nigga

  • @Lemonteardrops17 it's true though this odious bitch eats. rarity could have made it tolerable.

  • @Lemonteardrops17 This is the most sane and reasonable comment I've ever seen on youtube. It's nice to see not all commenters (on this video or others) are trolls and flamers. Thank you.

  • Prepare your popcorn, only tonight! HO- HO- HO--- HOLYWAR! Stupid MLP haters vs stupid Barbara haters. Everyone sure of being right! Nobody gives a cupcake about others' opinion! Maturity and wisdom, dignity and understanding - the things those people lack. Coming next week - chocolate vs vanilla icecream fans, much blood, don't miss it

Seriously, learn to say "I don't like" instead of "this is stupid".

  • @RedGallardo: mmm, cupcake.

  • @MaconMixx Dude, you really didn't know what that meant? It means they only know what they like, they don't know how to make a dress out of it.

  • I don't think you can even compare this to the MLP version. I mean, I know it's the same rhythm, but besides that it's completely different. This version has a higher tempo, the lyrics are different, the background music sounds different and so on. Let's just stop whining about which version is better and just enjoy the music.

  • I love the MLP Rarity version; but surely even the most rabid Brony can love and tolerate the fact that without this 26 year old original, "Art of the Dress" might not even exist. Heck, I didn't know there WAS an "original" till I saw this vid.

  • @omganotherun

Actually I believe this song original came from Sunday in the Park with George. I may be wrong. :x

Search rJFz-ucuTvs in youtube to find it.

The words also feel more 'rarity' like than Streisand's version.

Your point is still valid though! Don't scorn the old, without it we wouldn't be where we are today.

  • Why can't we like both of them?

  • @FoggyRoad81 You need to get over YOURself. The great thing about people can have different opinions, but a shame when people aren't accepting of it. Opinion is not fact. They both are good in their own ways, but you aren't helping people to be more accepting of it if you make comments likes that.

  • I just love this version, the original, more than "Art of the Dress" I've loved this song since I heard it three years ago. I know my opinion doesn't matter, seeing as how I'm 15, but I though I'd voice my opinion. The MLP version is just a shadow that tries to mimic this, nothing more. Pleasant to listen to, but in many areas, lacking something.

  • I'm probably going to get a lot of crap for saying this but this is so much better than the MLP version. I mean, I love MLP:FiM, but the vocals here are clearly superior, and the overall feeling much more captivating.

  • what a song, barbra always give justice to any song she sings really a diva always strive for excellence.

  • Everyone keep in mind, the MLP:FiM version is the full "choreographed" number, and this video is just Barbara in a sound booth. This song is a number from a musical theater production, and clearly its sound and tempo were written to compliment the theatrical performance it accompanies. The song alone may not be as enjoyable to just listen to as MLP, but try watching the whole performance and see if it doesn't make for a more engaging experience.

  • Barbara is now all like :What the fuck is this pony shit?!

  • @HITTHEROAD19 Bronies under 16 following this link: who is that woman? o.o

    ROFL

  • Ha! The line "all we like is what we know" in "Art of the Dress" never made sense to me until I heard it in this context. XD

  • Oh. MLP changed the tempo from the original. Didn't expect that.

  • Wait wtf this inspired Ar of the dress? Can't believe this went completely one my head. Well done streisand.

  • i like more the version of the My Little Ponny but this version is amazing

  • I think this is an amazing song.

  • @AdamLongandTall COngratulations, you win the Not Making a Pony Related Comment award!

  • @quiroz923 Hooray! An award that I always wanted to achieve!

  • Meh, Rarity should sue her for making such bad cover...

  • Today's challenge : Find a comment which isn't related to MLP.

  • mlp:fim made this song 1 MILLION TIMES BETTER IM SORRY THIS SONG IS bad no offence

  • @sleepygiant123 By what quality do you mean that "Art of the Dress" is better? Catchier? Easier sound? Sondheim's sound is more avant garde, which is not always pretty, but more experimental and lyrically interesting than, well, a TV show's songs. Both Sondheim's "Sweeney Todd" and "Into the Woods" are excellent musicals, but many of the songs from them are not very pretty to listen to. However, that doesn't stop their acclaim onstage and from audiences. :)

  • For every MLP fan out there that has commented that this isn't as good as Art of the Dress, I have to say, how dare you. I love MLP, Rarity's awesome and Art of the Dress is my favorite song from there. But regardless of my currant obsession to compare the works of Stephan Sondheim, such a musical influence on hundreds of theater goers to ponies and side with the latter is real insulting.

  • Bernadette Peters sings this better than Streisand OR Rarity. That's right, I'm a brony and just said someone sings this better than Rarity!

  • Just because your a brony and think rarity sings better, rarity got it fron tgis song. Just paste a rarity on her and mix up the words and tune and you got Rarity Streisand.

  • I am a brony and what is this

  • @Epicdps ART.OF.THE.DRESS

  • @322kittycat Well NOOOO SHIEEEEEEEEEET sherlock hooves, I knew this uh "inspired"(?) Art of the Dress. I'm just confused because this song is bad and AotD isn't. @_@

  • Wow. Haven't heard this in years. I knew FiM reminded me of something...

Mind = Not so much blown, as making connections.

  • I'm not saying Rarity's a bad singer (I think I like her a little better than Barbra myself) but you can't say she's better at singing this when she didn't sing it.

Art of the dress did use the same tune, and the occasional few words line up, but it's totally different. Art of the dress was a slower tempo, and some parts of the song were completely different. They had to make room for the other ponies after all.

  • This is actually pretty good

  • PONIES

  • I Agree, Rarity Is Better At Singing This

  • @Silrontro Rarity didn't sing this, she sang a song using this tune

  • I love Rarity and MLP: FIM, but you really shouldn't compare Rarity to her because they are completely different. Not to mention, without her, there would have been no art of the dress

  • >Watch "200" and "201" of South Park

    >Watch this

    >Laugh ass off

  • 2:55-3:05 translation "all we ever want is indecision, what we realy like is what we know, have to balance style with adherence, making sure we make a good apearance, even if you have to fudge it, make sure it stays within our budget!"

  • ponies. ponies everywhere

  • now 20% cooler

  • Rarity is so much better than this........ whatever this is.

Ponies will one day take over the world, And I will be there to serve them.

  • rarity's better...

  • Ponies brought me here

  • The melody is fine, the sound is fine, but it just needs to be about 20% cooler.

  • @MyRealNameIs28 Rarity says "Challenge Accepted"

  • Ho

    Lee

    Shit

  • ponies brought me here

  • Guy commenting in the video: It need to be about 20% cooler.

  • Makes you a barbrony XD

  • I'm gonna say it - Barbara Streisand was hot as fuck back in the day. Also I watched this video because I'm a dude who watches Ponies and that old chestnut.

  • Barbra Streisand WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWOOOOOOOOOOWOOOWOOOWOO

  • No one is going to buy it my ass! If it has Streisands name on it then it will be a best seller... "the gays" alone will lap it up like a cat licks up milk! The gays are 10% of the population... just think about it!

  • @macrent2 So, you're saying that because I'm attracted to men it means that I'm going to buy something made by Ms. Streisand?

  • Nice song.

MLP: FIM just made it 20% cooler.

  • Comment removed

  • Now splice this with rarity's music video.

  • Comment removed

  • Meh, personally I prefer Rarity's version better. Of course, I never was one for this kind of music

  • >Barbara Streisand

    >Whiny background commentary

    >Neurotic stop-go symphony

Yeah I think I'll stick with Rarity's version, thanks

  • @iceguy0077

    She is not whining.

Do you want to HEAR whining?

And so on and so forth...

  • @KirbyKillerKid I meant the guys in the background, saying "we can't do this song" and so on and so forth, hence: background commentary

  • Oddly familiar...

  • and thats the art of the dress!!!

  • I love how this only slightly sounds like Art of the Dress.

  • @tehthirdperson yeah he made it better. the lyrics are really similar though

  • Barbra Streisand would most likely die of laughter if she found out what we bronies have taken over this video.

  • A marshmellow sent me here.

  • Rhyming for the sake of rhyming. It could be 20% cooler if she admitted she was a time traveling plagiarist! Its kind of like star wars a long time ago...AND THEY HAVE LASER BEAMS!!

  • @TheDeathChrist Well, considering she's covering a song, I wouldn't say she's plagiarizing. She took the song from "Sunday in the park with george"

  • the video doesnt work for me ?

  • @Jtiger987 now it does :))

  • Needs more Rarity.

  • I actually knew this song long before I watched Friendship is Magic. I was positively giddy when Rarity started singing and I recognized the music and how well it fit the situation. I love both versions.

  • I personally think this song is fantastic. You really have to realize that Rarity's version isn't original. While her version is an excelled remake and is one of my favorite songs of the series, this version is fantastic in it's own respect. So, big ups to this version. I can see why Faust chose to remake it in her show.

  • Dear Princess Celstia: Today I learned that it's rude to impose your interests on other people. Just because you're a big fan of something doesn't mean that you should push these views even in unrelated situations. You should respect other people's interests and be willing to engage in fruitful discussion, instead of just taking over the conversation. Your Faithful Student, Twilight Sparkle

On a related note, this is a truly exellent piece. I want to see the full show someday, any tours?

  • @darthteej1 Thank God someone here isn't insulting this woman just because she's not a fricken horse.

  • @Cursico are you a hater/disliker?

Oh, but i agree, not all good stuff have to be pony. This is good in a different way :)

  • @Greengigant123 No, I've watched all of the first season and enjoyed it- but it's become overrated very quickly and now the fans are beginning to irritate me. Not to mention quoting 20% cooler incessantly despite that quote being a representation of Rainbow Dash not accepting Rarity's dress and going over-the-top with her dress.

Poor Barbra doesn't deserve to get dragged into all that.

  • @Cursico any time something that's incredibly fantastic comes around, it draws a large fan base. This one grew primarily online, which is common in the modern era, but still, don't let the online community subtract from the overall cool-ness of the show. The internet is a terrible place, filled with terrible people. The Brony community is not exempt from these rules (far from it) but the brony fandom is centered around something amazing. (Plus, bronies believe in love and toleration)

  • @Cursico i think that too; and when the people starts to say "everypony" and "yo, bronie" and that stuff, it get over my nerves. Some MLP: FiM fans can reach sometimes nerd levels.... yours was a good point.

  • @darthteej1 wow.........just wow

  • @HerpDerp777 I'll choose to take that as a compliment.

  • @darthteej1 CHOOSE CORRECTLY,YOU HAVE

  • Comment removed

  • She Needs To Be A Pony

    A White One

    The One That Is Fashionable

    And Has Blue-ish Purple-ish Mane

    And Named RARITY

Yeah That Makes It 20% Cooler.

  • I like how we bronies have TAKEN OVER this song.

  • Well ponies have already taken this thread, AWESOME!!!

  • WHAT?! this is the ORIGINAL! i had no idea!

I thought Rarity's was completely original...

    Still Rarity's is much better.

  • WHERE ALL THE WHITE PONIES AT?

  • Raritys original is better.

  • @theseriousaccount Except Rarity's isn't the original :/

    I like both versions.

  • Yeah. Ponies.

  • Rarity's singing voice is better

  • So I wasn't the only one who saw this under suggestions while watching Art of the Dress? Sweet.

  • @ZendadaNick Nope, it happened to me too. Tell you what, though: if Streisand wrote a song to the tune of Pinkie Pie's cupcake song, the circle would be complete :)

  • i was going to make a pony joke but dear god her nose is really that big, i never seen her for real, i thought it was just a joke.

  • >Watch My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Episode 14

    >Get curious

    >Watch this

    >Fail to understand why people hate Barbara Streisand

  • @rupture1212 Because this song is just her bitching about how she doesn't get do what she wants. This song is just a tantrum.

  • @analbumcover500 Blame Sondheim, not Barbra

  • @rupture1212 Barbara's hated?

  • @v1de0gamr LOTS of people hate her. People think her voice is overrated, her larger-than-life personality can be seen as bitchy and diva, and she's a super liberal. I personally find all those to be positives. *shrug*

  • @rupture1212 yup i never knew why people hated her.my only encounter was in south park though :)

  • [Insert "20% cooler" joke here]

  • If you squint, she kind of looks like a pony.

  • I Like the song but I perfer the My Little pony version

  • Hehe I really like Putting it Together and the Art of The Dress.

I think its cool that My Little Pony was inspired by this piece to make a version for kids younger fans.

    :3

    <3

  • this song and art of the dress are awesome, nuff said!

  • Piece by piece, snip by snip

    Croup, dock, haunch, shoulders, hip

Thread by thread, primmed and pressed

    Yard by yard, never stressed

And that's the Art of the Dress!

  • Oh my there was comment fight night in her.

  • This is how Duck Sauce and FiM are connected. This awesomeness IS what I'm seeing, right?

  • I personally like the TRUE original version of this song better, as the Sondheim version was more about the facts of creating art, and less about Barbara Streisand creating art...

  • I love My Little Pony and I'm a fan of it, but this is actually the original song wich inspired "Art Of The Dress" ,the wich all you retarded 25-year old bronies obsess and fap to, so cut it out with the rude comments and let us enjoy this music
