The problem with fallout 3 is that the game had to make money, so they turned it into a shooter. And it worked. Fallout 3 was a good game, dont get me wrong, but its no fallout. Fallout is defined by its top down view, that way it can have much better graphics, this way they dont have to blur out textures and simplify object forms in 3D. In a top down view they can put a lot more detail and atmosphere. And that element is what made fallout so great for me, the attention to detail and atmosphere.

Fallout 2 and Fallout 1 are much more better then f3.In these times games mean people graphics, and 3d effects. But this game was a RPG and had a such great flexible story, rpg events. i prefer 2d game with good story, rpg then a ultra good 3d effect game.
I think instead of this Fallout Online, Beth and Interplay should stop this sueing and merge together to make A new Black Isles Studios and a Black Isles Game Publisher and carry on with Van Buren because i think this would have saved the Original Black Isles Studios.

Looking Glass (Thief, System Shock), Troika (Vampire Bloodlines) also closed, the best PC devs.

They may be stripping down a lot of features from game to game, but I think you might be overstating this a bit. I certainly haven't seen Madden and CoD fans flocking to play Skyrim or New Vegas. Regardless of what is taken away, their games are still massive, expansive, and with almost endless quests/etc., to keep players occupied.
Before I a saw the Fallout 3 boxes at gamestop and thought it was a lame game then I watched vids on youtube of FO3 I fell in love I bought it and FO:NV and now im going to do a digital download of FO1 and FO2 Fallout one the greatest series of all times waiting for FO4.....
I enjoyed Fallout 3 and New Vegas immensely, but they both lacked the depth and the realism of the classics. And what I mean by realism is the sense that the game world is a living entity with a history and a future independent of the player. New Vegas was much better about this than FO3, but they both had a childish naievety in the humor and the presentation that made them feel like toys--worlds that were put there purely for the sake of the player. The classics were more mature.
Don't get me wrong, I love Bethesda's take on Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but it would be kinda of cool to see a future Fallout game more in the style of the classic Fallouts 1 and 2. I did like New Vegas in particular due to the large nods to the past Fallouts
OMG, that's amazing! Imagine if this came true TODAY! The graphics would be amazing there could be physics and rag dolls and everything would be so detailed and fun, but at the same time it would be the challenging game that fallout 1 and 2 were.
Just imagine if this game was finished. I would die a happy man if one day, a group of developers came back and finished this game so us Fallout fanatics could finally experience Fallout 3 as it was meant to be.

@newyoikmabsta Probably because Fallout: Online is owned by Interplay and not by Bethesda. A lawsuit between the two companies has slowed that game down to a crawl, though.

I never played FO 1 and 2, and i don't hate the games. But just watching this vid made me appreciate it's glory days and made me legit shed tears. I love FO3, but if this was to be the next FO game, I would play it like a hardcore fan.
This game does look like it would've been epic, as I loved both fallout and fallout 2. But I prefer the style of fallout 3 that came out. It's not that I don't like games like this, I just prefer the style of F3 and New vegas.

Also to the previous comment, there would be no New Vegas if Van Buren got cancelled since New Vegas borrows story elements of the original Van Buren story such as the burning man.
The only thing I like about the Bethesda Fallout is the first person view. I prefer Fallout 1 & 2 over 3. The Black Isle games were more enjoyable had a better story but I don't consider the Fallout series dead. New Vegas is good and Fallout 3 is okay. Fallout 3 had its good points but the story is what kept bringing it down.
To all the kids that didn't had a chance to play Fallout & Fallout 2: "I'm sorry....." :-( It had unique gameplay and top graphics in that time, and original storyline, creatures, weapons that Bethesda can only buy and copy.... I bet that if this Van buren, or whatever, was finished it would have brought us many NEW things, that they CREATED..... Fallout 3 is just an Oblivion with some old Fallout motives... Seeming to like...glide on surfaces and stuff when they walk? Plus the akwardness of fighting melee and using third person are completely re-formated to be far more crisp, the LIVING environment, where everything feels alive like real life. Something that Bethesda games have sort of lacked. It would be extraordinary.
@xRulerxLS If you've never played the first 2 games in the series you can't really talk. Fallout 1 and 2 (can't say for tactics since I haven't gotten around to playing them) were wonderful games in their own rights that helped provide the mythos for Fallout 3. Completely disregarding that because Bethesda was the first to make a full 3D fallout is unfair. Also keep in mind this tech demo is from 2003, not a game from late 2008. Graphically there've been a lot of advances in that time period.

Nothing is wrong with Fallout 3, but the fanboy hate is something you can find on any corner of the internet. Never mind that Bethesda saved the franchise and that Fallout 3 and New Vegas are actually incredible, amazing games. But, fanboyism, crowd mentality and nostalgia are powerful motivator.
As a fan of Fallout old and new though, I'd say Fallout 3 is my favorite of the series.

Don't get me wrong, I love Bethesda's take on Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but it would be kinda of cool to see a future Fallout game more in the style of the classic Fallouts 1 and 2. I did like New Vegas in particular due to the large nods to the past Fallouts

OMG, that's amazing! Imagine if this came true TODAY! The graphics would be amazing there could be physics and rag dolls and everything would be so detailed and fun, but at the same time it would be the challenging game that fallout 1 and 2 were.

This would have made a great game and with people who loved the 1st 2 games (which was a lot) would have loved this and would have got a lot more new people playing fallout too. Saying that though if they did make it the fallout 3 now whould have not been made and i have to say is a better game then van Buren would have been and i agree with fallout 3 having a whole lot of atmosphere. Also if this was made New vagas wouldnt have been made either

@ellnic Exactly, I mean I loved playing Fallout 1-2 but the fact is Fallout is a single player game. People play a single player game for 2 reason's... Reason 1: they can do what ever they want. Reason 2: The story, Frankly I just don't see how this story even remotely fits into the fallout universe... I mean in my eye's nothing about Van Buren's fallout 3 is even relative to anything. It's pretty bad when you literally make fun of your old game in a DLC for the new one (Old World Blue's)

@Promegzingxo What are you talking about? The story of Van Buren is about the war between the Brotherhood of Steel and the NCR and a second nuclear holocaust . Seems pretty related to me. If anything, Fallout 3 is the less related game, regarding storyline, of the seven Fallouts.

I have to say this game looks fun, see, if you could combine the fallout 3 looks, first person view and fallout 1 & 2 stories, you would have a great game, i personally think that the f3 story was a little limited, with not enough choices, and no real control over the outcomes, and i again personally think, that the view and im not trying to act like they mean everything cuz they dont, but the graphics of fallout 3 were better, also the creativity of f1 and 2 would be great too, please make that

@patar10050 i agree with gbeansauce. old world was great. honest hearts was too, fallout new vegas felt like the real fallout 3. it was a great game, sure the story BACKGROUND wasnt there, thats true. but the point of that was to let the player decide and come up with what his past was. so you choose the past (in your head). and i thought that new vegas was on par with the first 2 games. nv is a great game that i played (and still actually play) for SO many hours. fo:nv is a very good sequel.

The only thing I like about the Bethesda Fallout is the first person view. I prefer Fallout 1 & 2 over 3. The Black Isle games were more enjoyable had a better story but I don't consider the Fallout series dead. New Vegas is good and Fallout 3 is okay. Fallout 3 had its good points but the story is what kept bringing it down.

To all the kids that didn't had a chance to play Fallout & Fallout 2: "I'm sorry....." :-( It had unique gameplay and top graphics in that time, and original storyline, creatures, weapons that Bethesda can only buy and copy.... I bet that if this Van buren, or whatever, was finished it would have brought us many NEW things, that they CREATED..... Fallout 3 is just an Oblivion with some old Fallout motives... I just don't know why somebody didn't make NEW game that is actually a true Fallout3

@Pavke101 Actually I did, I also played Fallout Brotherhood of Steel and Tactics. And yah, I think I was born after too, but that doesn't matter considering of course I played them. Honestly, playing all the Fallouts, I still much prefer the newer ones, and now that Bethesda has re-created their engine for Skyrim, I am totally psyched to see what they do with Fallout 4 with this new engine, should be outstanding.

I think it matters when you played first two parts, because when I played them graphics did not matter as much, and for that time graphics was top... Today you expect incredible graphics, even at the cost of gameplay...

@Pavke101 Yah, graphics at neat, but I was talking about the engine. I mean, you know how in Oblivion and Fallout they move around all clanky, and not so static against the world? Seeming to like...glide on surfaces and stuff when they walk? Plus the akwardness of fighting melee and using third person are completely re-formated to be far more crisp, the LIVING environment, where everything feels alive like real life. Something that Bethesda games have sort of lacked. It would be extraordinary.

@xRulerxLS If you've never played the first 2 games in the series you can't really talk. Fallout 1 and 2 (can't say for tactics since I haven't gotten around to playing them) were wonderful games in their own rights that helped provide the mythos for Fallout 3. Completely disregarding that because Bethesda was the first to make a full 3D fallout is unfair. Also keep in mind this tech demo is from 2003, not a game from late 2008. Graphically there've been a lot of advances in that time period.

Nothing is wrong with Fallout 3, but the fanboy hate is something you can find on any corner of the internet. Never mind that Bethesda saved the franchise and that Fallout 3 and New Vegas are actually incredible, amazing games. But, fanboyism, crowd mentality and nostalgia are powerful motivator.
As a fan of Fallout old and new though, I'd say Fallout 3 is my favorite of the series.
