the longer I take a look at that bucket (not yours, the original I mean) the clearer it get's that it wouldn't fly in a million years! It was obviously destined to be driven by people against the regime...
It was very smooth bamboo. The cause of failure was the homemade rocket ripping open, matches and foil is just no good for something that size! I made this when I had no understanding of airplane construction - it was too heavy to fly xP
I have investing in balsa wood and I have some rockets to fit. Project not over yet...
I'm still considering making a foam Natter glider, 4 booster rockets from tiny estes motors and a large internal rocket. The real problem is getting them to fire and release in sequence X)... and connecting to a launch tower.
All 4 boosters could be rigged to fire at once, but I would need a remote control and internal battery to ignite the main engine - it would take a lot of planning and money.
A simpler idea is to get several small rockets in a tube, each igniting the one after it. The tube would then be put in a foam Me163 glider and perhaps level takeoff and climb can be achieved?
Go to 'fiddlers green' website, look up their card plans for ww2, they have a natter plan. It will cost a little money, but you get 3 free plans for other planes when you join.
I just carved an aerodynamically sound, and accurate natter from polystyrene. After a few weighting challenges (the plane has barely any wings to speak of) it FLIES!
I'm not about to trash the model with a crude rocket (the technology must catch up first). Video coming soon...
I might well do this in future experiments (the real problem here was the rocket exploding). My latest video is about another rocket plane. This time I am doing much more 'research' before lunching the thing!
At least you make your own little "peacekeepers" but ck out this just added, hot from the you tube bakery: "Buy War Toys For Christmas" by Roy Zimmerman. And lookee you've got 4 Honors, in "Autos & Vehicles", kind of an odd category but I guess your creative efforts are hard to categorize.
Yes, and now I don't remember whether he said that he should have gone to the doctor more or that was my opinion from listening to him on my favorite radio station in the middle of the night.
I knew him more as a thinker than a musician because we shared the same radio station, KPFA out of Berkeley, claims to be 1st listener supported station ever. He was a warrior for our 1st amendment Free Speech with Tipper Gore, Al's wife as an pponent. She said she liked his music, just wanted to protect the kiddies with a family values rating system.
Pacifica radio played his music too, which he shared as a way of supporting the station, but he liked to talk about his political ideas & said he was considering political office. The cancer got him quickly,
however. He was impatient with unionism & believed in a volunteer army [i.e. mercenaries (just what US has in Iraq now with Blackwater)]
If he'd lived & could see results of a mercenary army ("contractors")& the beaten down conditions for workers without unionism, maybe he might think again. However, he was very good on freespeech & resistance against religious right.Quite different person than a Ron Paul.Different times.
Dear friend, feel sorry for the crash. But, like others sayed, great style! As you threw the Natter, did it already had the rocket engine attached? If not, your centre of gravity was pulled back at your first motorized strike. Too far backwards, your model is not able flying! Try the next time just to change your weighting more to the nose and backwards. You'll see how important this is!! By the way, why not developing liquid rocket engines for your models?! Trust me: THAT rocks!!!
Thanks for the advice. When I threw it there was no rocket inside, with the 'full' rocket the weighting wasn't important. The Plan was to have the rocket fall out once it had finished, and the natter would glide on it's own.
As you can see the rocket tore itself open and blew the plane backwards! LOL. And then all my hard work caught fire ;)
I wouldn't know how to make a liquid rocket? Sounds dangerous!
Nah I just make crap rockets with match powder ;) HOWEVER I have just bought a pack of REAL rocket motors today which I will be firing at the soonest opportunity!!!
What a shame. But it is always nice to see such futuristic, high technology employed for the betterment of mankind! I liked the paintjob with the striped wings, too.
I thought at the time when seeing your launcher, that you were missing something to guide the Natter, and make stay on track.. Also, maybe you should have at a less steep angle? Just a suggestion.. I admire your persistance, and am looking forward to the next vid. Sadly my experiements stayed on the 'idea' level, and never saw reality! Seeing the slo-mo, it did seem to actually fly, which was good! Not to say excellent.. :) Well done.. :)
Official reports indicate the craft experienced failure of the main rocket structure, leading to an upward spray of thrust. This in turn rotated the said craft to point downward.
Yeah the angle was steep too, but with a weak bit of foil the whole project was doomed. Still even a rocket that small would have shot the natter into the air (without the tearing) ;)
Today I bought some Estes motors, tommorow I will fire one! Woohoo!
Really good! Keep up the good work!
My Bachem Natter went up in flames too sooo... back to the drawing board!
But mine can be used agian so. ;)

Perhaps it would be better to build a small rail angled slightly downwards from a few feet up? Natters were supposed to be towed aloft I think.
