Great to see for Sir John Walker. He gave so much back to the sport. John raced everywhere,
and never ducked anyone. One of the greatest middle distance runners ever, and also, an
incredible, classy, great ambassador for the sport. He is certaInly more than deserving on being Knighted! Best speech ever to the runners as spokesperson for the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships. He really cared also about mentoring other runners! Don
We salute to thoses people that were example to all, children, adults, & fans alight. I looked up to not only John, Dick Quax, Rod Dixon, as well they were the trio that made a huge impact on the US & europe circuit in track & field. We need more of these guys to come thought to help build a nation that looking for there kids to reach there potential to the fullness.

Walker was my track hero. I met him and got his autograph at the Mason Dixon indoor Games in '79 or 80 (minutes after destroying the field) when I was about 13 or 14. As I recall this was the first time I ever say a sub 4:00 mile in person. He was a cool guy. Wearing his cool intimidating black NZ uniform.
My hero too when I was a runner back in the 70's and 80's. An inspiration for younger athletes..always had time for autographs...would love to see a vid of gothenberg 1975 up here somewhere ??
I trained with john a few weeks before he was going to be the first man to break the sub 4 at 40 years old. from memory he was spiked by an aussie runner which basically ended his main goal. I still remember he hated fresh up, hey John it's got to be good for you! Anyway congratulations on becoming a sir it's good to see you're still doing well.
stupid comment man..you should have a little more respect , especially if he is your age..He looks damn good to me like he looked back then, A true legend.
@sholoborx the man has Parkinsons disease and continues to show the resilience that made him a champion. He's an inspiration, and you're a silly twat.

"If you're given too much when you're young, you don't try to set out to achieve." Great comment from John Walker.
