  • 2 uncles, 1 europe, 1 the pacific. i myself grew up next to a VA hospital during nam. my heart my tears... i hurt so so much. God bless their Souls, They are so dear, so so dear.

  • For people overseas to understand that comment below. Amphibious is water infantry types. Ya... living on a ship and other shit. Mechanized is Armoured Light Infantry vehicles. Airborne are paratroopers. Air Assault are helicopter infantry from Air Cav units. Now these days its not really like that, LIGHT units adapt to the siutation now. LIGHT INFANTRY is the way to go. Airborne units are Air Assault I think now.

  • Dont care for the movie. This music is awesome. Id listen to this on replay long time ago before I went "in".

Im all for hearing people that say there are a difference between army infantry and marine infantry. Dont add in the "HIGHER" types. Because they both go to RIP (haha)

Amphibious? Mechanized? Airborne? Air Assault? I think the regular LIGHT infantry in Air Assault might be the best for regular. Airborne and Mech is just as good. Bradleys are manned by infantry that eat humans

  • Para una película MARAVILLOSA,no podía faltar la banda sonora del MEJOR COMPOSITOR de todos los tiempos HANS ZIMMER,para mi gusto la mejor película jamas filmada y la mejor banda sonora jamas escrita.

  • bro this is amazing I cannot imagine a better project then yours

  • this film is about the human spirit not war.and a damn good one at that.......

  • very nice......perfect for the one of the best ever :D

  • Well done my friend! I love this movie and you did an awesome job on your project! As it was stated in the movie, Guadalcanal was the turning point in the war in the pacific. Superb job!

  • I think it's safe to say that every renowned male actor starred in this movie.

  • This made me depressed :(

  • This vid shows both sides of War which u hardly see now-a-days

most movies just show one side of the battle and doesnt show you that the side made scarificess also

now i really wanna see this movie

btw great job on the vid hope ya got an A+

  • Great effort on your project I hope you were justly rewarded. You've really touched upon the tragedy, sacrifice and awe of war, and how it permanently affects the human condition.

  • what movie is that

  • @omardx8 The Thin Red Line

  • Great movie, though it plays a part in steering history away from a basic fact about the Guadalcanal. For every soldier killed on land in that campaign, there were three sailors who died in the sea engagements. Most history channel enthusiasts know about the terrible ordeal of the Marines and Army on the island, but don't know the significant horror of the Iron Bottom Sound.

  • @greg0879 +1 on the significance of the Navy. The sea and air battles haven't been a focus outside of books on this transformative campaign. The US Navy was climbing a serious learning curve (trial by fire). They were green, were trying to incorporate new technologies (e.g. radar) and were over-confident in going up against a seasoned Japanese Navy. The fact that islands are surrounded by ocean is lost upon the battle scenes. The sea and air campaigns were integral in the Pacific.

  • @tobyboy1 Agree 100% with your assessment of the Navy during that campaign. Neptune's Inferno by Hornfischer, is a great read on the sea engagements and the challenges the U.S. faced going up against the masters of night warfare on the sea. He echoes the same sentiments you have about the steep learning curve. Perhaps part of the problem is that after Midway it seemed inevitable to most that the ocean struggle was a done deal. The setbacks that followed after seem largely whitewashed over.

  • @greg0879 Thanks for the book rec. I read a book on the Solomons campaign long ago (don't recall the title/author) - walked away jaw-dropped at the carnage on both sides on land, sea, air. Infantry did have a very rough go but the sea battles were wholesale death and destruction. Was in the Solomons in '92 - rements of war are still visible on land and in the sea - horrible contrast to a country otherwise so beautifully gifted with nature.

  • Great job on this history project. I hope you got an "A". I enjoyed this. :-)

  • This clip doesn't seem to grasp the film, which was not really meant to glorify the conflict at Guadal Canal, but delve into the deeper insecurities and feelings of man. The backdrop happened to be World War II, but this is no Saving Private Ryan style film. I don't know, I wouldn't wave the flag after seeing a Thin Red Line. If anything, I might just discuss the uselessness of war.

  • @pduguay

    Perfect.

  • Wow.... excellent work.

  • Outstanding video, if someone told me this was a promotion video made by the movie producers themselves, I would believe. I think you have captured the real essence behind "The Thin Red Line", and the engeneering of footage/music is superb. The only thing missing here is some footage of Nick Nolte, I think his amazing performance is one of the highlights of the movie. This is my favorite movie, and I can say it changed my view about some aspects of life. So congratulations on this great work.

  • Amazing video AustinH444, outstanding.

  • This was a very underrated movie its not talked about much at all and the cast was amazing just look at every one sean penn, adrien brody, woody harrelson, nick nolte, john c. reilly, John cusack and John travolta

  • Love this movie so much. Its movie about frendship and love not war.

  • new short film 'the last man standing' takes place in europe during the second world war, where james a british soldier has become disillusioned and tormented with war and tries to reach safety. along the way he has a few unexpected encounters and relives painful memories.

  • Nice video but just one thing. Although the Marines played a big role in Guadacanal.

This is actually the US Army not the Marines. The Marines left the island and the Army is sent in to wipe out the remaining Japanese forces.

  • @cripplehawk Yeaaa I know lol. I just didn't have any Marine footage real or movie. I really wanted to use footage from "The Pacific" but it wasn't on DVD yet so i just went with this.

  • @AustinH444 I stand corrected. This film was based on the battles Galloping Horse, the Sea Horse, and Second Mount Austen. The US Army 25th ID (the division that this film is potraying) arrived with the rest of the 2nd USMC Division to assist the 1st USMC division and the US Army's Americal Division. (NOte the 2nd USMC Division had differnt objectives, that is why you don't see them). Sorry for the false info. The author fought with the US Army's 25th Infantry Division.

  • @cripplehawk This is not correct. Please go do some research before posting. The Army sent the 164th Reg. into the Canal on Oct 13, and they fought well alongside the Marines. The Army con't to add units to Guadalcanal throughout Nov., while the 1st MARDIV was removed from the island in early Dec a month before the Japanese retired from the island.

  • @cripplehawk yah, and the US Army destroyed the nazi army in north africa, sicily, italy, france and germany. without the help of the usmc. but the usmc needed their help[ in the pacific. go army

  • @cripplehawk Ya it happened alot. Corrigidor was another example of the marines in usa (I wouldnt look it up). Dont worry about it. Marine infantry are the same as army infantry.

  • @cripplehawk he actually did say that if you payed attention! His 2nd sentence of the project was " sent US Marines AND ARMY"!!

  • An excellent video and I hope that you received an A-Plus for your effort. 'The Thin Red Line' is possibly my favourite war movie and much of this is due to the atmospheric music that stirs so many emotions. The 'mopping up' at the Japanese camp shows the humanity and inhumanity that is in all of us and the scene never fails to make me weep for those who have sacrificed their lives and innocence for something they believed in. I am eternally in debt to them.

  • after watching this, I think I liked your video more than i liked the actual movie. Others will argue with me but I didn't like this movie that much. There was too much melodrama for me. I think the excess drama actually took away from the credibility of the movie and the (numerous) actors performances.

  • Thanks alot, now I'm sad

  • tres beau film, une tres belle bande son, tres philosophique, magnifique!

  • 4:17

  • This movie makes me want to pick up a pen and write until my hands bleed.

  • BTW good vid. The music reminds me of Downfall.

  • When was the first land engagement ( was this the battle) and how many Marine divisions were there WW2? Thanks for reply.

  • the Japanese would have looked like monsters toward the American Soldier, unbelievable time.

  • Good stuff, but Guadalcanal certainly wasn't the "first step".

  • @Shifty8777 well step, test whatever you want to call it. i meant it as their first actual offensive.

  • @AustinH444 first offensive... on land

  • This Film asks Some Very Profound Questions, But It Asks One In Particular, "This Great Evil, Where Does It Come From", Where Does It Come From.....

  • Mate, that was amazing and if that was the video that you used in you history class i would give at an A* (the best grade possible) :) nice work mate and pay no attention to these idiots who think its bad because its NOT..its amazing..well done again :))

  • @buckleyaaron61 thanks man!

  • Excellent. Pay no mind to these other idiots.

  • @MichaelKing thanks haha

  • nice vid just a bit pro american

every soldier who has faced intense combat gets fucked up

    american japanese german whatever

everybody is the same just not on the same side

  • @bleushift I totally agree with you, but the assignment was for American history class so I kinda had to make it pro american :3

  • War brings out the worst, and the best in men.

  • i think that the image of terrence malick don't need these words who are supposed explain something ....war are just act of barbarie, we killed for the property , malick believe in human nature,so in nature because we're justa part of that . the way he shoot , in all the image and sound you can feel something really deep, organic...beauty, love...he is inspired but more than this ...thanks to him .

  • @sirgautly lol read the description. i don't do random history narratives for fun, this was for school

  • sean penn said one things in this movies during the massacre "all this for the property" .he said evrything . one of the most brilliant film against the humain stupidity :the war and the humain beauty :love . the battle or war are pretty the same, it's about destroy life...

  • Read Guadalcanal by Irving Werstein and Guadalcanal Diary by Richard Tregaskis! Two superb books about this harrowing battle!

  • THANKS HANS ZIMMER, THANK YOU SO MACTH

  • made me cry

  • Commentary is retarded

  • @NGC773 chill bra. 10 minute history video for school.

  • Adrian Brody xD

  • Very nice compilation. Would suggest that the narrative misses the point of the movie... and of human history.

  • @peregrin666 This is a homework assignment not about the movie.

  • lol no one reads the description or comments about how it's a history class video.

  • they all have m1 garands in this movie. their supposed to have springfields

  • @snoopy3600 The Marines who went in first had the springfields, those are Army Soliders ur seeing in action, when Army went in the battle thats when M1 Garands were mass produced and eventually replaced all the springfields. If you have seen the HBO mini series "the pacific". Search for "The pacific stealing scene" video and it will kinda explain it.

  • fantastic, music and video in a film cult

i love zimmer and this film

  • Dear commentator (AustinH444). You have not understood ANYTHING. Please see the movie again. And again, and again ... if you need.

  • @Raskolnikovtzs Once again -.- READ THE DESCRIPTION. My assignment is NOT about the movie.

  • This is a piss poor way to explain history. You said literally nothing about the history of it just about what you saw in the movie.

  • @njdevil281 What didn't I say about the history? This is a ten minute school assignment, not a 10 part documentary. I did my assignment. I'm not sure what you mean by "piss poor" because I said the what, who, where, when, and why.

  • @AustinH444 no you just narrated the friggin movie.

  • I think that this video completely oversimplifies and even injects messages that weren't even in the movie. The entire movie questions the basis of war and human character in its relation to war. It does not call on us to be thankful for our soldiers and their sacrifice. It asks us to consider the evils of every violent engagement we are in and to prevent the hardships that every person in the movie had to deal with. "War don't ennoble men. It poisons the soul."

  • @ansigs My report wasn't about the movie. My assignment was, if you read my description, create an informative video about an event in american history (battle of Guadalcanal effects it had on the people (soldiers) involved etc), while adding music that fit the theme and be able to explain WHY it fits the theme. I used the movie ONLY for the footage that represented the battle. I also had to explain WHY the even was significant in American history.

  • GREAT JOB !!!!!!

  • The greatest lessons of this film are from Pvt. Witt, the conscience of the film. He says, "War does not ennoble man; it poisons the soul." He then asks, "Where does this evil come from?" The film is not a glorification of war; it is a masterpiece that shows, in graphic detail and haunting words, the futility, evil, and horror of war.

  • Joe toye on Band of Brothers is in this.

  • "Jisas Yu Holem" theme actually IS in the video, from 3:46 to 4:55.

  • Hi Guys,

If anyones interested, Check out my Blu Ray review of the movie, go to my page or just type in "the thin red line blu ray review"

  • 3:54 he's gay in the book and he kills a jap with his bare hands that finds him taking a shit

  • @walmartian I'm reading the book now and so far Welsch is by FAR my favorite character (I'm on page 81) but I did not know Doll was homosexual in the book. When he steals the gun in the book he actually gets caught, then sees two more pistols, one of which is Welsch's. Welsch catches him but it turns out the one Doll stole infact wasn't his (I think this is what happened, every ten pages they remove 2 pages because it's only a preview. I can't wait for it to ship =D

  • @go0fy11137 Doll's not so much homosexual but Fife and the kid who's bleeding from the ears are.

  • @walmartian doll gets homosexual urges closer to the end with the guy who had an ass like a woman, i cant remember his name though.

  • @hippowithnoodles444 I think it was PFC Bead or the basic equivalent. Some of the characters' actions and situations in the film were made of of more than a few in the novel. You'll find out who lives or dies when you read the book. Quite different enough to make it worth the read.

  • @walmartian wait i didnt know there were gay characters

  • @go0fy11137 Welsh catches Doll with the Pistol but lets him keep it. It wasn't Welsh's pistol and I don't think Welsh had left his around and makes the statement to Doll, "Clean it. Any Fuck-ass Soldier who'd leave that around like that probably didn't clean it either", Or something to that effect. Doll realizes later that Welsh was right. I really enjoyed the book, brick that it is. One of my favorites now.

  • No Nick Nolte scenes? This was one of his best movies!

  • The Assult of mind in the war. The pain of war.

  • @dogcatpimol I like that statement

  • You must have gotten an A on that man...

  • Well done. Terrence Malick is a genius the way he directed this movie.

  • @honest1963 Better than SPR

  • Dude this was brilliant. I'm really glad to hear you did this as a history project, I love all history but WW2 has always been my favorite subject. We sacrificed so many lives which is why I think it's important we have films like TRL. I really hope you got the grade. Cheers.

  • Im' looking for the song at 3:43 too .. someone find it?

  • @Merdasse007 This is the instrumental version of the song "Jisas yu holem hand blong mi", arranged by Klaus Badelt (not Zimmer himself). It's not present on the ost album, as well as some other pretty good themes that appeared in the movie (f.ex. in the scene when Pvt. Witt dies). I've uploaded "The Thin Red Line - Unreleased Music Compilation" where you can find those tracks with sfx. Also an user named TheJohnnymango uploaded this track without sfx. Check out the comments of those vids.

  • You did an AWESOME JOB HOPE YOU GOT AN A;)

  • Great job!!! My compliments Austin

  • true the part of sadness and hope!

  • Which track is it from?

  • the music that starts at 3:43, where did you get it from. Is it directly from the movie or can you download it from somewhere? I don't think it's on TTRL soundtrack!

  • @Gazico10 Yes, it is from the OST

  • @Gazico10 Did you find it? I'm looking for too :(
