  • I did not even know Japan still had military parades. I live in Japan and most Japanese really don't like the military. This video is surprising.

  • almost identical to the greek military parades.

  • That is great music indeed.

  • @Zescaflowne it's a self defense force

  • @davidchile007 no senor mueven los brazos como inglaterra, no como EEUU.

  • We have a history of DIStrust of the military = and of keeping the military under civilian control. We do have SMALL military parades -- typically a retirement parade at a military academy, military base or the Pentagon. To see one such parade search on "West Point Parade" or for another search on "Military Parade at the Pentagon with Marine Corps Band"

  • @rmorecook i was always wondering why i couldnt find large american military parades equatable to those of other countries. You seem to be right.

  • Man why doesnt the US have military parades like Japan, China, or Russia?!

  • @darkmann88 because military parades represents tyranny and oppression supposedly - you know how hitler did...

  • @ambagoli21 That's stupid! Simply because one person's regime did so doesn't mean that Japan can still continue to live in the past. Right now they are sitting ducks to China and USA won't be able to do jack if a war starts in their region.

  • @darkmann88 Well, the JSDF today marches just like the US army, only difference is the size of the parade. The IJA used to goose-step on parades, a la the Wehrmacht or the Chinese.

  • @fr8542

The ignorance is a crime. All your remarks are coming from your imagination, or Are you liar? Have you ever seen real movie? You have to watch Japanese army's one.

Japanese Army and Navy never used to goose-step on their parades.

Japan Self Defense Force's steps are similar old one.

Only Poor communist country such as North Korea and China imitate Nazi and Soviet Union goose-step style. It makes me laugh so much

  • @UminoNuko In old movies Japan Army lifted the foot but not so much as a goose step.

  • @UminoNuko: If you bothered to research it and pay attention you'd notice that the Japanese military marches really resemble the British military marching and that's cause when Japan modernized in the latter 19th Century she turned to Britain as an example so thus Japan's military has a very British "look" to it. That goes to explain why the Japanese drive on the "wrong" side of the street like the British. Her navy was also copied along the Royal Navy lines.

    (cont.)

  • @lukebccb Actually, the IJA was based on Prussian military.

  • @UminoNuko: But the Japanese military "looks" a lot like the American military NOW cause after occupying Japan the Americans re-organized the Japanese military.

The Chinese military march look as such cause it was organized along the lines of the Soviet Red Army and in turn the Soviet Red Army was descended from the Czarist armies that was heavily influenced, organized and even trained by Germans.

  • @UminoNuko FYI, the goose-step originated in Prussia during the 18th century; not Nazi Germany. And China is far from poor.

  • china has the best MILITARY PARADE ( march ) in the world and really looks SUPERPOWER,look like only one man marching with same height, weight, shadow, faces, movement and momentum its really very incresible, long live china

  • best army ever!n best people in the world!!

  • I thought Japan is not supposed to have an army, right?

  • @elmano04 This is not in the army.

    self-defense force =/= army

  • @elmano04

It's really a facade. Japan does have their own army

  • what happened to their peace declaration in their constitution?

  • @southernmilitaryguru actually, after world war 2, the Japanese military became strictly defensive. There is really no need for them to attack another country, but to fight out and last if war comes to their nation.

  • @crashrj543 I Don't mean they need to attack another country, but having offensive capabilities is essential, the japanese army is heavily short on, well, heavy equipment as far as I am informed

  • VICTORIOUS RETURN? FROM WHAT? IRAQ? CERTAINLY NOT WW2, THE JAPANESE LOST THAT.

  • Is That His Impreial Majesty, The Heisei Emperor, Akhito on the Reviewing stand?

also, this looks impressive but the Japanese military currently lacks essential offensive capabilities, however in light of the threat from the DPRK they are changing this slowly.

    Great parade though

  • @SouthernMilitaryGuru

No, that was the Honourable Ex-Prime Minister, Juinchiro Koizumi. The JGSDF has greatly improved since this parade in 2004.

  • @Intranetusa

I will be ready for this. Let's go and clear North Korea from their brainwashed communists. ^^

  • the Japanese Imperial Navy & Army was amazing back in the day, i love how the kept there tradition of The Samurai and Bushido.

  • nowhere near as pretty as the chines military parade but I have great respect for both countries.

  • WESTERN SWORDS!!!! boooooo, were the hell are the katanas

  • HOW MANY PEOPLE SERVE IN THE JSDF?

  • If you look at it, Japan has the potential to make the worlds second most advanced army based on its economic ranking in the world.

  • @xmseraph sadly the time of the honorable samurai has passed

  • @devilhunter1789 i know, just look at the western swords they carry...

  • @blobperson yep, with the drawn sword party march, the tradition of japanese army march, it looks quite odd with a western sword they carry and march around. what a shame they took the spirit of japanese warrier since the lost of war......

  • greetz from old supporter india

and really thanks to japanis for supporting indian national army and subash chandra bose

    and even supporting india financally

  • japan i think surpassed us in the econmoy so its only military now..

  • i admire the japanese army and culture, i would like to visit such an honorable nation in the far east!

  • Japanese people are fanatic )

    I admire them !

  • notice they have western cavalry swords instead of katanas.

  • Notice their exessive westernization for the past 200-300 years.

  • Notice your complete lack of understanding about Japanese history. Real Westernization did not begin until the Meijin Restoration in 1868. Moreover, if you go to Japan you will see that they actually retain a great deal of their traditional culture.

  • @xiongmu Having lived there for a few years, I assure you, I know what Japan is like. Thanks.

  • @fellbladepickle

more like starting 160 years ago

  • the japanese have a differate way of marching since ww2 . although they were occupied by americans they now march like the british.

  • this is 2004? according to the camera's quality it looks like it was something earlier than 80's, even though they are supposed to have better cameras hahah

  • it was degraded in the upload process

  • @rmorecook

The Prime Minister was Junichiro Koizumi (2001-2006), so I think it must taken be around that....2004 is possible.

  • It's 2004.

You can see then Prime Minister Koizumi at 5:18

  • @dieglhix lol dude your right although many cameras in 2004 were crap

  • @dieglhix

Yep, and look at their Prime Minister. He is not the PM in the 80s right/ ^^

  • People keep talking about China the rising superpower of Asia and all this.. it's like, Japan is practically already the superpower of Asia. Nobody mentions them.

They have 2nd largest economy, and a military would give most of the world a run for their money while being essentially "unarmed".

  • Yes but the thing is Japan cannot surpase USA, they have already met their limit.

Where's as China has got a long way to go before they can stop

  • @siuyutlong

It looks like you know too little about Japan and China

  • they dont have a army and they do they are not allowed to fight ofshores but if they are invaded by like china they can fight back thats why its called the defence force

  • @JFMello1116 the people with guns and tanks are infantry

  • @jakeryanlovesgirls

Thanks, but that was more of a rhetorical question to the user who was going on about how this can't be a military parade because Japan can't have a military.

  • Does anyone know if that first march is here on Youtube?

  • very nice music in europian (maybe Russian) tradition

  • A lot of classic german military marches had nothing to do with Nazism. So yeah they are awesome

  • What's the current consensus about Japan's possibility of getting a real army in the future? It doesn't really need one now, but who knows what future brings with it.

  • The Americans may let Japan have a military down the road when the Chinese becomes a super power. They slowly catching up with us. They already have Wal-Marts poping up in every major Chinese city.

  • hopefully it'll bring pragmatism and flexibility on the part of the japanese.

  • The parade and the music sounds british. :: sighs:: Atleast the Germans still keep up with some of their old school military marches.

  • i thought that japan couldnt have any army after world war 2? some one explain

  • well now - they DONT have an army. It is their Ground Self Defense Force

    :-)

  • yep. its not an army... they are just "special" civilians.

  • it is an army limited but it has power to defend the country and they are not civilians they stay and train in bases

  • that's true, japanese army is for self defense, they are not capable of invading or anything specially because of america's documents that do not allow japan to have a huge military, for now, the strongest countries in asia are 1 china 2 Koreas (south and north) 3 Japan..etc :-)

  • @luiscarre Japan has the strongest navy in Asia

  • @rmorecook nope , its self defence forces , is like an army but they can't attack , is only for defend and peace missions

  • @rmorecook Same deference, just some minor technicalities in the constitution that mean nothing should war break out.

  • @rmorecook That's just a wolf in sheep's skin. Good thing we have North Korean to keep Japan in check.

  • what is the different?

  • @Ytpoopy

Everyone! Japan is rearming its military for future wars. It is not a surprise to me at all. I live there all the time. It is predicted to become the most powerful military power in all of Asia. It is also rumored to have nuclear missiles in reserve now. Japan quickly recovers from WWII!

  • @mushi3116

    haha

    you are being sarcastic, right?

now japan is full of lefty, there`s no way we can invade other country again.lol

  • @Ytpoopy They said Germany would never have an army again......now it has the biggest in Europe after Russia.

  • @Ytpoopy why aren't they allowed an army? only navy, marines, and air force are allowed?

  • @shylildude Because of world war 2.....

  • @Ytpoopy United Nations helloow

  • @Ytpoopy Basically the terms of surrender dicates that the Japanese cannot have an army to conduct aggressive overseas operations.

The JSDF is mandated to defend Japan and Japanese interests only unless stipulated.

Although They conducted punitive operations in Iraq and Afghanistan recently as a nation who are allies in the War on Terror whatever that is anymore...

  • Interesting, but no such dramatic as Russian military parades...

  • I hope they will change japan's article nine in their constitution.

  • Why? Article 9 keeps Japan a peaceful nation. Why would you want them to become warlike and aggressive?

  • @Intranetusa I have great respect for the Japanese people and their great military history

  • @AlphaJohnson47

Their military history is a bit checkered. Sure, the samurai are cool, but they didn't win many overseas wars besides the one with Russia.

It pretty much was downhill for them after they became fascist.

  • @Intranetusa More like the US turned against them ever more and they had to compete with Russia and the British Empire who America favored more :D

  • @wiggalama

They feared foreign imperialism, so they decided to become imperialistic themselves and began to brutalize East and SouthEast Asia.

  • @Intranetusa I am well aware of that, I am a Japanese History Major :) They had no choice, hopefully they will have a more free and powerful military as their tech and economy can sure build it :) Last thing Japan needs is North Korea messing with its citizens again.

  • @wiggalama

yep. Hopefully that is the case - but a problem is that there are still many in Japan who still refuse to accept their WW2 history (or whitewash atrocities). This is a huge issue with mainland China, S. Korea, Philippines, etc. Hopefully it doesn't start an arms race...

  • @Intranetusa

They just got overextended and overzealous after their simultaneous surprise attacks and early victories on Pearl Harbor, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaya, Thailand and Philippines. These battles went too well for Japan and they ended up with really long borders that was too difficult to defend (and too many islands to watch over) They did not have a good reserve of oil & war materials and thus lost through attrition. They lost the war attacking America, not because of being fascist.

  • @Intranetusa not aggressive, passive/defensive.

  • @mango7272

hopefully that is the case, or it'll trigger an arms race

  • @Intranetusa He has just paid so much the lose of the War.

  • @Intranetusa Because in our neighbor The barbarians live. They are Korean and Chinese.

  • @mountainss8848

"Because in our neighbor The barbarians live. They are Korean and Chinese."

Since Japan culture and society is based on Koreans and Chinese, Japan is the barbarian's barbarian.

  • @mountainss8848

    @mountainss8848

"Because in our neighbor The barbarians live. They are Korean and Chinese."

Since Japanese culture and society is based on those of the Koreans and Chinese, Japan is the barbarian's barbarian.

  • With the DP in power, I am pretty sure they will celebrate with a samurai parade, it would be much better and interesting.

  • They march like how the commonwealth does! Arm swinging motion! =D

  • I'm very interested about Japanese Army. Could someone tell me what kind of forces use particular uniforms?

  • Nice parade. They don't bang their heels on the ground like the chinese and russians. Much better, if you want to avoid leg pains.

  • Actually I rather like the way the Chinese do their march. I happen to know it doesn't do that much damage to your heels, it just works out your calves pretty good.. but if you have strong legs, it's not really that bad on em.

  • Strong legs and definitely good soles for their shoes I think. lol

  • lol. Well army boots tend to be made tough enough for that and more :p..

  • JSDF parade is alomost same an old army's parade style.

  • You actually bang the ball of your feet. not the heel =D

  • That "ball"?? Where is that??

  • hahaha! hard to explain just keep to the feet area! not banging the heel.

  • ok. I hear you.

  • This parade was held in November, 2004.

I confirmed the time with the Defense Ministry.

  • Is it just me or does anyone else think the bandannas a really nice, though not "cute" or "gay" touch :D?

  • Well yes. They've always worn those.

  • It's a nice touch.

  • This force review in 2002 not 2008, the 50th Anniversary JSDF, and P.M. Koizumi Jun-ichiro as an inspector for this review.

  • Does the US do these kinds of parades anymore? Does anybody know? I have been in the Army previously and have never seen anything like this here....All Military. I would like to see one here in the states.

  • yes. I have a number of US military parades posted. click on my youtube userid and go through my postings. Bob M

  • I think the reason you don't see parades to this extent as much is because Americans don't like or want to see the federal soldiers marching down their streets. This country was built on the idea that the country belongs to the people. So when you do see soldiers marching their usually in small groups and no where neer to the extent of russian or chinese parades. - Just my observations

  • No the U.S army is too busy being in a war to have parades.

Japan isn't allowed to be in wars anymore so this (which is run by their citizens and not their government) have nothing but time to work on their marching and choreography.

    Its very entertaining though...

  • Well who's fault is that that we're always in wars :\.

Even when we're not at war, we don't try.. accept for maybe the marine corps. They seem to always find the time to work on their exhibitionist skills, other than marching.

  • I am still quite sure that although the Japanese army lacks experiecnce there troops are probably very well trained

  • All my respects to this grand army.

  • It doesn't matter. They weren't allowed to have a military 10 years ago either and they know this.

    This is a direct violation.

  • No they have always been allowed to have a military. Since WW2 however their military has been limited to defensive operations only. This is not a violation. All states are entitled to the means of defending their sovereignty regardless of the past. Japan is no exeption

  • Not at all. the allies dissolved all sects of the Imperial Japanese armed forces.. and then article 9 of their new constitution placed limitations on the use of the SDF.. something to the tune of not using them as instruments of policy or conflict resolution.

  • this is not 2008 look at the picture uality its like 10 years ago

  • this is japan not china cant u read the title?

  • magnificent!

  • The Japanese military is always impressive, well trained soldiers!!!!!!

  • some of the parades have just soldiers walking casually not marching. like russia, but thats compensated by the music. the best marchers are the north koreans and chinese. the russians are best overall.

  • ive seen the russian parade n it was awesome...scary too...

  • Awesome! I saw the Chinese Military Parade but nothing beats my Japan! ^^

  • I agree!!Our(czech)military parade sucks compared to yours

  • nice parade!

  • pay the cost to be the boss ;)

  • masterofthekeyblade of course germany have a army , the Bundeswehr was founded in 1951

  • And has the most modern ground Forces of these days, too.

  • this army is more a sports club, the bundeswehr is not a real army.

  • im german, and im agree.

  • I do agree, too! The Bundeswehr sucks. And they march like gay americans, french and so on.

  • worst of all:

the technology of the germans is the best in the world, and still they are to afrait to look like nazis.

so they dont make such cool loking parades like this one.

  • Yeah, it's sad actually. Jackboots, snappy uniforms and huge parades are all part of European tradition. But because some asshole decided to turn Europe in to a clusterfuck, Germans are to scared of being called nazis to be proud of a heritage and tradition that they share with an entire continent...

  • @xIrelandsfinestx great comment. That is international jewry ofcourse that made europeans in to scared to be called "racist" bullshit.

  • no they dont the japanses have robots (that can talk)

  • Damn, Ayumi Hamasaki has more audience

  • wtf i thought japan didnt have a military cause of world war 2 just like germany?

  • they both have armies because america doesnt like russia or china and tore up the majority of its treaties reducing its new allies army sizes

  • The U.S. doesn't hate China or Russia.

  • They foreswore aggressive war. They have a "self defense force"

  • They had only a defensive army but that changed recently cause of the threat from North Korea. They now have a fully capable army.

  • I think that Japan has one of the gratest armies ...

  • impressive, but the edinburgh military tattoo is better!

  • cute girl voice~

  • Japan doesn't have any problems to use their great parades but German does it and that's sad.

  • It's because of attitude of German themslves. They can do it now.

  • Thanks for your splendid compilation.

I've watched this video a number of times.

  • I am glad you liked it. Why not do a search on youtube now using west point parade 2005 for a complete USMA parade. Bob M

  • is it really in 2008? or is the camera old?

  • The parade actually took place in 2004 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Japan's self-defense forces.

  • The first march is 'Gaisen' (victorious return). It's quite new one, solicited from among the public. Though its style is different from any of traditional Japanese marches, I think it's one of the best ever composed after WWII.

  • agreed. this is an absolutely magnificent march - and incredibly Western in its style

  • Comment removed

  • I wish the Bundeswehr would to something like that every now and then...

  • they do

sign up for my march of the day list and I will see to it you get some. Bob M

  • The german army never does public parades. All we do is public pledges (Öffentliches Gelöbnis) and the Grand Tattoo (Großer Zapfenstreich). There were some airborne rangers at a parade in France in 2007 or 2008, but that was only one platoon.

  • Bundeswehr was in a Warsaw 2008 parade...

  • Sometimes we join in foreign parades (a platoon of Fallschirmjäger marched down the Champs Elysees 2 or 3 years ago with a french parade), but we never do our own parades.

  • That's really shame, their remembered by their parades from ww2. Well they were "the best" and now they don't do em.

Pitty I mena I am not ironic

  • On the other hand I can see why there are more important things to do than parades... they take a lot of effort (weeks of practise etc) which is better spend on drill training with equipment and weapons. And that we still do.

  • They are the same thing.

Socialism is a milder form of Communism.

It sees everyone as an equal, but everyone is also allowed to own private land.

    Communism is harsher.

It does NOT allow anyone to own private land.

However, there is no country in the world that can call itself a communist state.

In china, they are already in the socialism state.

North Korea is not anywhere near communism.

Kim Jong-il is already taking control of everything.

Vietnam will be the closest thing you get to communism.
