I came here to refind 'Teen Beat' as I first heard it on a standard commercial 50's comp albumn common after the release of 'American Graffiti' circa 1973? I love this film above but this is similar too but not the version I heard on that K-Tel(?) comp albumn my sis had back then. OBTW- FYI Afflack Duck = K-Tel Records - same people.
This Is One Of The Best Videos I have Ever Seen. All The Dancers Are In Perfect Sy nc. I Am 71 Years Old And I Was Doing That Dance In 1960. I Play This Video At Least !0 Times Every Day.
there are so many versions out there of "let there be drums" & "teen beat" apparently. this is the second one i've heard that doesn't sound like the ones on rhino
Jkrotondo... Its not more than one drummer. Sandy Nelson played his drums straight through with some echo. Good drumming will do that. He was the king of his genre. Most other drummers sounded one dimensional in comparison. It was a combination of great acoustics where he recorded, and tasteful drumming. Of course, the musicians with him had just the right touch. I'm a drummer. Studied Sandy N. for years. With him, less was more. You think you are hearing more than there was. Art.
More than one drummer? uh, me thinks Les Paul had invented multi-track recording with delay and echo by this time and Sandy was well aware of this. Duane Eddy accomplished his echo/reverb effect by recording in an empty grain elevator and Link Ray's unique sound on Rumble was accomplished with a ripped speaker. I guess we might call this true analog sound manipulation. Today, engineers rather than musicians ultimately determine what our music sounds like.
this is great, and to see the teenager,s just having fun etc, back then when things were real and meant something, sure would like to see this type of atmosphere today at Venue,s,but thats not going to happen.
This was the very first song I really noticed and it blew me away. Amazing then, still good now! A busting beat . . . . nice footage too, thanks Robert ☺
THIS SONG IS CALLED LET THERE BE DRUMS NOT TEENBEAT THANK YOU EVERYONE

Try the British transport film 'snow' made in 1963, that has some fabulous music, extremely closely related to this.

I remember those days well. The sweat emanating from the dance floor gave the room a sweet smell.
