  • HAHAHAHAHA Loved "MEEEEEEh....... UGH!"

  • is this hard to play at first

  • @BriBri10a eh, not really.

  • j'aime beaucoup votre style ! très joli son

vous êtes faites pour jouer du hautbois

n 'écoutez pas les critiques des idiots comme le joueur de basson

  • What kind of oboe do you play?

  • loree.

  • Nice. Same here :P

  • You have a beautiful sound!!

  • Comment removed

  • i little more emotion and this will be great =]

and Ob0efr3ek... jealousy is a fickle being isn't it?

  • he's kidding, i know the kid

  • kristin...that was just emotionless. u are an untalented loser and should really just stop...i mean...come on. ur "nothing special"

  • this made me giggle.

  • i think u struggled a little but u steal did geat.

  • nothing special... without emotions and music from heart

  • i don't play oboe, but you sounded good to me!

you don't seem very confident in your ability though, i'm the same way with my instrument (violin)

    :)

  • what did you receive at solo and ensemble?

  • A one.

  • great tone! I love it :D

  • you left out the cadenzas, the best part of the movement! :P

very nice otherwise. try keeping a nice, even tone through each phrase.

  • what brand of oboe are u using?

  • Loree

  • ok thank you

  • bravo, tocas muy lindo...

  • whats that called in the beginning? at 0:11

do most oboe players do that? cause i heard a lot of them doing that at an honor band audition. haha.

  • that?

    oh.. haha

that's just me making sure my lower notes are working

  • Nice tone, give making it more and more flexible...

  • I agree that was an interesting sound at the end, entertaining never the less

I really liked your tone, but just as a little thing i think you'd get even better support with your air if you brought the oboe to you instead of tilting your head downwards towards the oboe, a problem i always have =/

But that was great and from memory too (i think)

    Well done! :)

  • i like ur tone

  • vraiment pas mal coince pas le son et adoucie un peut la technique ;) continue comme sa !

  • i love this song i have the sheet music i am glad its not super hard just the high notes and well i suck so there is some conflict but u did great

  • Nice

  • i hate being sick while playing oboe, but its even worse when playing englishhorn! the bocal gets... icky hahaha

  • your reed is too hard, you shouldnt have to struggle. listen to a couple recordings before publishing your own imperfect music because you never know who may be watching you struggle with simple rythms. nice attempt but you make this easy song sound way out of your league which is a shame.

  • I appreciate your comments, and I realize my reed was hard. It was old, and I was sick.

    So a no good combination

    I don't mind who's watching this video...

It makes no difference to me, really.

    It's just for fun.

  • damn, i wish i was as good as you T.T kids in my class think the oboe is annoying because they have no idea what a talented oboist sounds like.

  • i know! everyone thinks it sounds like a duck D:

same with piccolo. people think its the most annoying instrument ever because its hard to get a pretty sound >.>

  • you make oboe look easy D;

  • pretty you ;)

  • u are really talented. i am playing oboe myself and its kinda hard i am working o getting a good sound like urs

  • hello Im from portugal I love the vide you play nice!!!

  • i want to start oboe but can't find a brand I know what kind is yours?

  • Loree

  • thanks

  • Oh man,but i think that you're overall is still good. After all you're a better player than me.I hope that would i play as well as you in time to come.Seeing how others can play the oboe so well inspires me to carry on playing my oboe with enthusiasm.

  • haha yeah same with me =D

  • this is awesome

    :D

    i think you're great c:

  • Well we're here in the UK just listening to you,now my daughter wants to play Oboe...give yourself a pat on the back, thankyou

  • lol thats funny i knew i wanted to play oboe when i first heard one at band camp(yeah i know i am a big band geek) but yeah back then i played sax

  • You know this is why i don't like posting videos of my playing b/c no matter how good you are people nit pick and it's really annoying. I bet 90% who critique should get simlar nitpicking themselves.

  • yes but most negative comments are from ignorant people who think playing guitar hero is playing an instrument

  • hahhaa.

    the truth.

  • awesome. lol at the beginning when u said 'ew' lol.

  • you're so amazing. i wish i could play as well as you. like fah serious

  • First- That's life if you say someone's going to be better than me. Someone's better than you. We're human we have to 1 up each other. I already knew that I'd have people better than me, For goodness sake- I have the number 4 oboe in the state of texas in my band.. I realize the competition. Second- This was two years ago. A lot has changed. and Third- Who said I was majoring in it? I'm majoring in photography- and you better believe there are people way better than me too.

  • whaat a bitttttch!! jesus she puts her music up on youtube shit that deserves applause in itself could never do that

plus the oboe holy crap that would be hard much fucking clarinet was hard enough for me lol gave that shit up fuuuuuck lol anyway

you were good even if i dont know what that song is meant to sound like

    i thought you were good

    hope that means something. =D

  • Made my crappy night.. a lot better

  • all goods man least i could do there are some faggots out there on youtube who cant say anything nice

  • that's mean!!! she's so awesome and you know it mr. non-talent! and don't message me saying u play 50 instruments because i don't care

  • Hello! I also play the oboe. I like it! But you mustn't play all the piece at the same form. The character must be toy!

Sorry for my english. I'm spanish!

    Kisses!

  • This solo won me many scholarships and pagents. I should post a video of the shortened version that i came up with for short auditions.

And Loree's are by far the best for your tone...

  • That's entirely a matter of opinion. I played on a Loree for years until I decided that Howarth's were the way to go, and I got myself a Howarth XL. But while the bore of the oboe and the reed play a large part in someone's tone, the best thing, my friend, is the person blowing on all of that.

BTW, I went to high school in Omaha and was in OAYO for six years, all-state, all-city, etc, etc...what are these "pagents" you speak of? And who did you study with?

  • I don't play the oboe so I don't know how the resistance works on the instrument, but it sounds like you could play with a bit more air support. You play well though. Where are you auditioning?

  • That's probably the most common thing you can say to an oboe player. It's like blowing through a closed straw.

  • what do you play on?

  • a Loree

  • Considering how long you've been playing and your instrument, you should sound a LOT better than *that*! And if it's not your best then don't put the garbage on youtube. None of us want to hear it.

  • I appreciate your opinion,

    I'll take it into consideration.

    Thank you

  • L33TOboist is like really really mean!!!!!

your like really good!!!!!! do you make your reads yet i learn't to do that about a year ago and it really helped my sound quality!!! (at first it sounded crap but then I actually got ok at it and devloped a stlye I like lol).

p.s when I played the saint-saens sonata (I was like 14 so it must of been 2 years ago) I tried to give the second mvt a more runing feel =) but you played it nicely

  • Ummm, her sound is absolutly fine. Where the hell are your oboe videos to prove your 'leet skils" ? Put up or shut up, and keep your discusting hate words to yourself.

Awesome job by the way, and you're right, that was an interesting sound. :)

  • Alex,

    I seriously appreciate that.

    Thank you, thank you

  • My pleasure. =)

  • And you can't spell "disgusting"

  • And you can't fucking leave things alone.

Grow a pair and STFU. ;)

  • so great ;*

    i love!

  • this person is cool.

  • That was really good, but I can't see how you can play without music! Even if I did memorize something, I still have to use music!

    ~Ellen~

  • wow youre good . how old are you and how long have you been playing ?

  • Seventeen, and for 6 years

  • i love u that was awsome lol!

  • Still people say marigaux oboes are the best you can get.

    Better than American and Italians.

I reccommend any oboe player do some research on

Jean Luc Fillon, great oboist and major researcher for Marigaux.

Anyways nice to see your staff here (great Saint Saens)

Wish all young and older oboists best luck !!

  • I seem to disagree. I do believe, although I am young, a loree is one of the top oboes.. I haven't done much research on the other, but I will do :]

  • No justification needed.

Really common to see oboists playing their first note and going ....ARGHHHHHH!!!!! hehehehehe...

Hope we can get clips from a good day, cause' let me tell you girl, the other video of yours reminds to a gang hang out hehehehe....oh man.Not a critic just hoping you can share a performance situation clip.

Nice playing anyways.Loree are really good oboes.Seems like a lot of people are going for Lorees nowadays.

  • really nice playing

    What oboe do you play?

It was a long passage no wonder why it looked like you were lacking air.Don't you feel bad at all, plenty of pro musicians struggle, go bright red and have minor intonation issues.

The secret i guess is good diaphram training.

Good to see (young) oboists sharing their work.

    Keep it up

  • This is going to sound like major justification on my part, but I was sitting improperly.. didn't warm up, and I was sick... Not that best situation for great playing, eh?

    I play on a loree.

  • saxophones own u all step down Oboe u cant compare

  • Who's trying to compete?

    I'm just chillin.

  • Hi, I play alto sax (and piano too) and was thinking about switching over to either oboe or bassoon. Is the oboe hard? I like its tone and I've heard some concertos for oboe, from Mozart. And I've also read that the oboe receives most of the major solos in orchestras and concert bands, so I am really considering it. I've read about scholarships too, hahaha. Do you make your own reeds? If so, is it hard? Fill me in please.

  • Do it!

Oboe is a semi-difficult instrument, as all are when first starting out. Don't do it just cause they 'get all the solos' and 'get great scholarships', though this is true-- You kinda have to have passion to get either of those..

Don't play oboe with the wrong intentions, cause it's completely obvious when you do.

I don't make my own reeds, but I learn this year. And Yeah, it's difficult.

  • Thanks. Another thing that I'm worried about is the cost. I was just going to borrow one from my school, but I'm not sure if they'll let me take it home. As a matter of fact, I'm not even sure if they have oboes! lol, Theres this girl who plays oboe and english horn in our school pit orchestra, but I'm not sure if they're hers (I doubt it though).

I've looked through a catalog and a student oboe is around $2,000! Just for a student model! I guess I gotta show my parents interest in it first.

  • My oboe was around 6,000-7,000 range.

    Mine's a Loree though.

  • Kool. When I get to school tomorrow, I'll ask my band director if I can borrow one. Thanks for your advice on the wrong intentions.

  • hey pianofiend1 if any one at my school even showed the smallest intrest in the oboe the music staff would probally get the person an oboe/get the person a music scolarship/get the person free oboe lessons. so ytou should probally talk to some one about it lol

  • I LOVE Saint Saens on Oboe and Bassoon even though I am a clarinetist myself and currently working on a Saint Saens sonata for my Jury in 3 weeks.

  • clarinets are better

  • clarinets are better

  • Lovely tone =) I was learning that for an Oboe exam

  • i liked that shes realy good

  • Make sure you see the last few seconds eye motion when she's low on oxygen.. Very funny. Nicely played BTW.

  • I do need to breathe, yes? :]

    Well, thank you.

  • Oh, I didn't know it was actually you (the player) who posted the clip. Yea, I tried playing for a while and almost fell into a coma from lack of oxygen so I hear you!

Just saw you on another video laughing your face off at practice, you are so funny and fun . Thank you!

  • I try my best :]

I was laughing mainly because like TWO seconds before that. I had spit EVERYWHERE. It was crazy

  • yea..I play clarinet.....

    lol random...

    but ur good!

Clarinets are hard...but Not AS hard as obeo yet pretty hard...espically when your trying to get very high notes...very quickly..and its hard..very random

But anyways ur a great obeo player!

  • you're cute

    even dizy, lol

  • sehr schöner ton

  • eh?

  • hehe its been a year .. sry that was german, i said "very beautiful tone". and watching this vid now, i'd say, yeah there may be some rhythmic mistakes, but i still like that sound. do you build your own reeds? if yes, then kudos to you^^ i make my own reeds and bit by bit they get better. its nice to play oboe and make own reeds, that way you feel much more familiar with your instrument^^ regards from germany

  • my oboes name is ombligo

  • jajajajaa

  • but oboe's name is "fucking stop giving me names and produce sounds that wont scare away people and animals of all kinds"^^

  • Ooooooohh, some vibrato. That makes a lot of clarinetists jealous. But why do oboists look like they're having heart attacks when they play? Whenever I look left at the woodwinds, all of the oboes are red in the face and look like their... constipating (I swear, I looked everywhere in the dictionary for a better word).

  • Because. Have you seen what we deal with?

Clarinet, Trumpet, flute, anything besides oboe is easy to play-- In a way.

Those instruments have little to NO resistance, on the other hand oboes have to push [--------------------------] that much air into [-] that little of a space.

It takes a lot of PRESSURE to make a note sound, not so much air.

  • hey thats an insult to clarinets, it may not be as hard as the oboe put its still pretty difficult, you know? if you are that good put a clarinet flute and trumpet video

  • they look like that because their eombouchres diffrent and they have to blow alot of air!! its hard lol

  • actually its like panicXOdisco said, its only the amount of blowing pressure that differs from other instruments, whereas the amount of air is indeed not that much. flute for example, uses much more air, because the air stream is not, like on oboe, focused on one tiny tip of the reed that is surrounded by the lips, but has to be directed on the metal edge of the head joint.

  • That is so cool.

  • I suppose so, lol

  • you were in drumline?

  • Am.

  • Wait.. aren't you that girl in Drumline?

  • that's me.. aren't you that kid..? i really have no idea who you are.

  • Lol uhh. I'm that kid.. that euphonium kid that was like.. "charles are we allowed to get this?"

  • what??

  • Lol nevermind.

  • u wouldn't take it any other way. now go practice your oboe instead of wasting time on the internet you strange little girl.

  • mine is called isaaic nglo-ngo-izika-zika-zaai

  • That's intense

  • im just being silly. i didn't know people named their oboes. u play really well. try make the legato parts more legato maybe work on intonation a little but otherwise really good. maybe add some more dynamics. tell ur teacher i said that see if they agree. have fun..

  • This solo's dead and done with. I never have to touch it again, so thank you for the compliments and critques. I do agree with the dynamics, my dynamics are ALWAYS my worst part.

    Thank you :]

and only the normal people name their oboes.

  • pleasure. um ok but why would i want to be normal. normal = BORING!

  • Sarcastic.. I'm clearly far from normal, have you seen the rest of my videos? Hmm.

I'm pretty sure I named my oboe Karl cause I was kinda odd...

  • come to think of it......u are a little strange.....

  • I'll take that as a subliminal compliment :]]

  • Heh, if you plan to keep playing oboe, I find it unlikely you'll never touch the Saint-Saens again.

  • .. I don't? This is my 6th.. almost 7th year?

  • Arundodonax has a point the saint-seans sonata is major repetoire for oboe =P

  • But, for sure I am playing this piece for my college auditions- this coming year

  • good luck (practice alot and get some one to make you a really really nice reed)

  • Mine is Christine

  • Nice, I'm on a howarth S5 and I absolutely adore her. I don't have any good reeds though so for the moment I sound slightly duck-like when I play. It's so infuriating!!! Great thing is that I am the only oboist in band at the moment and were are doing a load of Holst, Verdi and Wagner... my lips will be worn out unless I get some good reeds before next week. Again slightly more random information (slightly off the point but meh! I go off on tangents a lot apparently.) bye xx

  • my oboe is a He :] Karl is his name

  • I like saint-saens, fantastic piece. What type of oboe are you playing (I'm guessing from your thumb movement it's a conservatoire system but what??? Loreé, Marigaux, Rigoutat, Howarth, Fox, Adler???) You produce a beautiful tone though. Would love to hear more:)

  • My loree :]]

  • AWesome!

  • humm you told me to practice to get a good soud like yours but i have another question what type and what brand of reeds should i get or should i find an oboe teacher to make them for me, thanks for yoou help.=)

  • Brand of reed?

My oboe teacher makes them.. Handmade- So I'm not sure.

  • how can i get a great sound like you? plz tell me =)

  • Practice my friend :]

    Thanks for the compliment!

  • I heart musicians, and I heart oboe players, so we should be fast friends. :) I played clarinet for awhile, but then I started doing colorguard and became hooked. Do you guys have a colorguard out there?

  • yes. and ours SUCK :]

  • looks like it's time for a new reed? Do you make your own?

  • No, my reed was completely new. and I couldn't my lesson teacher to fix it.

I do not make my own, yet. I learn senior year.

I got a one on my solo though!

  • Gah, senior year... get a new oboe teacher. It takes lots of practice and hundreds of tries. Would your oboe teacher tell you to START playing scales in your senior year? Nice playing though. Remember, red face = new reed ;)

  • My face wasn't red, i was sun burnt.

and get a new oboe teacher? Best in the state of texas.. and you tell me to get a new one.. er no.

  • wow that was awesome, i cant play my vlarinet as well as you can play the oboe! good job :]

  • Good job. Do you have to do it from memory? Also, I think working with a metronome will solve a lot of issues; your tempo is good until you hit those F's with the grace notes on the upbeats.

  • It's all from memory, and this was a terrible fun through :]

Yeah, my worst part is this section and that's why I posted it I guess

Metronomes just really throw me off when it comes to the grace note part because it's really awkward

  • ohoh im going there too :]

  • In Texas!? no.. i doubt it

  • nice you will get a 1 !!!

  • Dang kristin i didnt realize one has to exude so much force to play that type of instrument. But your doing great and you are very talented.I like the direction lately you have been taking the videos. The others were fun and crazy but these have been showing the soft side of you.The inner thoughts and talents.Glad to see you posting again.
