I just got it for $280...good size, hdmi out 1080 compatible, 3 ram upgrade. My only complain was that the installed BIOS has a bug caused a boot problem when u leave a usb mouse on the port. You have to upgrade the BIOs to fix this issue.

Just got my HP mini 311, 2 days ago and its GREAT. The Nvidia Ion is definately a big plus. Im still gettin used to the keyboard, never had a netbook before. Im glad i did not go for a smaller screen, this one is perfect. Its a bit heavy compared to a 10inch but the advantages definately makes up for it. The mouse tends to skip at times but "touchfreeze" works to download and fixes that. So far im very satisfied with my purchase of the Mini 311.
@HockeySniper11 - I went with the Mini311, it has the Nvidia ion graphics, the dell havent, ddr3 memory which the dell havent, same processor n270 although there are minis with n280 too, Same harddrive(160). The mini 311 comes with a bigger screen which makes it a bit heavier than the dell but i personally think its worth it. 10.1 is a bit too small for my taste. Anyway that was my 2 cents and btw i got the XP version with 1 gig of RAM.

im about 90% sure im getting this for christmas, but i have some questions, i play club penguin (i know, im a nerd) and i normally have YT open in another tab, how slow are each of these things and how slow is it if they are together in one window?
I say get it as soon as you can find a deal on it. Both of those are definitely going to by glitchy and slow because of the old flash, but the new version of Flash coming out in early Jan. will fix all of that so Club Penguin and YT will work fine.
If you have an USB thumb drive over 5 GB, you can install Windows 7 with it. If you have Windows 7, thumb drive over 5GB and an extra 2GB DDR3 ram, you can buy $399 basic model and install Win 7 on it.
For a fully loaded system from HP's website configurator; Black Swirl case, W7 32bit, N280 CPU, 3GB RAM, 320GB hdd, wireless N, DvD player, W7 recovery disc, 2yr warranty is $777.97. $857.97 if you want the blueray dvd. Add an additional $22.39 for their carrying case.
I don't like how HP's website won't let you upgrade anything without going to W7. If you want more than the 270 cpu or more than 1GB RAM or more than the 160GB hd you can only get these upgrades with W7 and not XP. A 280 cpu, 2GBRAM, and a 250Gb hd all loaded with XP SP3 would be a great setup but HP won't let you do it that way. Only thing I can think of as to why not is because they made a deal with MS not to. MS wants to force people away from XP. A real shame.
the windows xp version doesnt support more than 1 gb of ram. its only using home premium because Microsoft doesn't let manufacturers use a higher version.

It depends on which player you use and operating system,you can make a full nvidia Ion out of the Le with a little Trick(under 7) and then you can play the full hd videos very smooth!

lol, the whole concept of netbook is the size and weight, they do that by eliminate optical drive, but you can use external dvd/cd drive which cost about $20-30. many software nowdays is online.

Only way I see a future for netbooks
1) Get rid of the stupid restrictions out of windows 7 starter edition,
2) Make the screen slightly bigger and extend out to the border extremes
3) Enable higher resolution even if that means smaller text
4) Put a nice powerful processor that can perform like today's midrange laptops
5) would Love to see a penabled wacom active digitzer screen for taking lecture notes

I got butt fucked payinfg for dead computers on the market. I realy hate the idea of being used as there Test Subject for I.D. theft. I hate the idea of buying computers that are over heated in dies in minutes. Windows Vista is a joke. My account is void beucase HP dose not have tech supoort. they pretneded to fix it or refuse to do anything. if you buy HP your going to be friyed.
I hate the idea of these people sending me 75.00 off tjhere next dead computer to pay for or lease

Yeah lot of useless software... Recovery procedure tooks more than 1 hour to be completed :-O

imagine a core 2 duo SL 9600 with ion 2 graphics( nvidia g230m as a northbridge), 4 gb ddr3, 128gb ssd, blu ray player/ dvd dl burner like on dell studio xps 13, slice battery like on hp envy 13,and all packed in 13 inch laptop with 1600x900 resolution for 900$..... i think alot people would buy this laptop..... because it has great specs and it has power, battery life, all necessary ports.... and its good for slight gaming on the go lol..... and especially for college students..hope hp makes it

@janicijevic23 correction......alienware m11x............is definatley next gaming netbook.....u heard me.... has intel core 2 duo...... nvidia 335m ( 1gb memory) u heard me..... has vga, hdmi, display port 3 usb, card slot , 5,1 AUDIO, 6,5 hours of battery on integrated graphic/ 2 hours on gamin..... un fortunately it doesnt have dvd/ bluray.... but who cares... im geting this shit for colege..=... u get 50 fps seconf on MW@ and u can play crysis on medium, resolution is 128x720....which is ok

I say get it as soon as you can find a deal on it. Both of those are definitely going to by glitchy and slow because of the old flash, but the new version of Flash coming out in early Jan. will fix all of that so Club Penguin and YT will work fine.

If you have an USB thumb drive over 5 GB, you can install Windows 7 with it. If you have Windows 7, thumb drive over 5GB and an extra 2GB DDR3 ram, you can buy $399 basic model and install Win 7 on it.

I don't like how HP's website won't let you upgrade anything without going to W7. If you want more than the 270 cpu or more than 1GB RAM or more than the 160GB hd you can only get these upgrades with W7 and not XP. A 280 cpu, 2GBRAM, and a 250Gb hd all loaded with XP SP3 would be a great setup but HP won't let you do it that way. Only thing I can think of as to why not is because they made a deal with MS not to. MS wants to force people away from XP. A real shame.

the windows xp version doesnt support more than 1 gb of ram. its only using home premium because Microsoft doesn't let manufacturers use a higher version.

well i read a review date show it only does like 11-14 frame per second that a bit slow, defintie might notice lag in 50inch plasma.

It depends on which player you use and operating system,you can make a full nvidia Ion out of the Le with a little Trick(under 7) and then you can play the full hd videos very smooth!

Actually- it is. in Asia though it is known as the Hp pavillion Dm1 notebook/netbook. Ask a local electronics shop about it if you are unable to find one online

U serious?Cus I just went by the local Electronic shop ( HP outlet) &asked them if Hp311 was in store yet, and they've told me it wasn't going to be here until the beginning of next year or something. & I was shocked.They did however gave me a brochure da did have a pic and info. about hp 311[I live in Thailand btw] I was going to call HP center and ask , but it's sunday =[
But I don't think they can install Window 7 in Hp 311.They keep insisting that XP should be install this is so annoying.

lol, the whole concept of netbook is the size and weight, they do that by eliminate optical drive, but you can use external dvd/cd drive which cost about $20-30. many software nowdays is online.
