gomenasai, i'm german and i can't english so good, can anybody say me the sentence "even when a samurai hasn't eaten, he holds his toothpick high" in german?? arigato ;D
i dont get ANYTHING that he just said.....can soeone explain to me what the hell he emans by a tooth pick and a samurai....and how rice cakes cant be eaten!? WHAT!?
The samurai one means that even when you are poor, you still act as if you are rich just like if a samurai will pretend that he ate a feast (holding the toothpick high) even if he actually didn't. The rice cake proverb is that no matter how good fantasy or dream is (how good a drawn rice cake looks), it is not real or not as good as a real version.
Well, it depends what kind. Mochi are typically filled with sweets like Red Bean Paste or Ice Cream, both of which taste amazing. If your over here in the states your local Japanese restaurant may serve them for dessert like mine does, if not see if theres a Trader Joe's near you. It's an organic store mostly but they sell all different kinds of Mochi, Green Tea and Mango are the best IMO. Enjoy!
i dont like the green tea ones but i bought a whole bunch once from an asian store and the one with peanut butter inside was really good XDD i also have tasted ones with whipped cream inside o_O
extremely bland and chewy, it looks delicious, but it's not -.- It's kind of like eating bread, it's just there. I can only eat about 4 of them till i get tired of em. they aren't BAD just not like candy or anything :(
If I was in Japan and I saw some idiot trying to eat the mochi in the picture, I'd say, "Baka! E ni kaita mochi wa kuenu!" Baka means idiot (i think). Thank you for posting this
The manga `Boys over Flowers` or `Hana yori Dango` is a play on words. The characters used to write `Danshi` or `boys` can also be read `danGO`. So the author, knowing this expression, made a play on the expression saying that it should be Boys over Flowers not Food over Flowers.
The similar meaning in other phrase.
"鷹は 飢えても [死すとも] 穂を摘まず"
taka wa ue-temo [shisu-tomo] ho wo tsumazu
= Even if the hawk starves [is dying], he doesn't pick up an ear of rice (unlike a sparrow or a crow).
= the noble-minded person controls himself (keeps his mind) not to do wrong thing, when if in hardships.
(my English is not perfect)

excuse but Hana Yori Dango means Boys over Flowers not Food Over Flowers
Deathbylife101 4 years ago
No, it means both. Dango" meaning "sweets" is replaced with a different set of characters, also pronounced "dango," which means boy.
