Yup, I think the CG is one branch that is shutting down recruitment wise. Of course, there will always be members whose contracts are up and/or retire. 70 is a good score, it's a way to level out the current need. 51 is the absolute minimum at the office I visited, I don't think it guaranteed anything. In fact, I think they only wanted someone with that score because no one wanted the one available rating (MST).
Also, since the CG is very small, it'll be difficult to get the job you want...I did well enough to do anything - but I wasn't happy with MST. So I then applied my skills at CGAux.
@jamesdcrooks Well, that's what Chief told me, of course I scored rather high, so I can get any job I want... maybe that's what they are telling prior enlisted looking to come back in. Re-enlistment is a tad more vigorous...
How hard is it to even join the Coast Guard as of now?
I am a college student with 80 credits and am looking at Reserve enlistment, and aiming at a 80 on the ASVAB (have not taken yet, but aced the practice tests).
Haha, aced the Practice Test too! Unfortunately, there was only one available rating, MST. It is tougher than than Army/Navy/AirForce to join, not sure about Marines.
Everything available in the Active, I believe. Check out the CG Reserves site and/or Wikipedia.
I am in the CGAux now, it's much like being a Reservist...
Good luck you guys, I was in 7 yrs ago (cant believe its been that long already) and it was crazy rough in the beginning and you're going to ask yourself "why the hell i agree to this?" but I totally miss it now that I'm out. Good luck!!
What are my chances of being accepted into the coast guard

@shali0511
The recruiters at my local area needed guys with at least a 51. High standards since they are overbooked.
