  • Just watch the rear end on those curves, esp in the wet. I had an MGC GT 43 years ago and on tight bends it could be a death trap. Big heavy six upfront and little weight at the back. Felt like a proper sports car, which it was at the time. Give me the Porsche these days.

  • My dad did the same thing but against a Nissan GTR and the C did a good job of keeping up

  • Lovely car and noise. What's your rear tyre size? 225?

  • @loverboymr 205/60R15 all around.

  • @BritCarGuy Thanks! I was wondering how wide you can go at the back. I have 215 at the front and had 235 at the back

  • This is truly one of the more enjoyable videos that I have had the pleasure of seeing. No music, other then the beautiful sound of that Austin six with no wind noise. The driver of the "C" definitely knows his car, as he uses the available torque without over revving. The driver of the Porsche on the other hand, brakes too early, and needlessly. Listen carefully as the "C" enters and exits. Very little braking out of place. Great video. Thanks for posting.

  • Most enjoyable, you made a good point about old versus new, also gave the german job a run for its money! bravo!!

  • I also have an MGC, not a GTS though. I am running triple SU carbs on it, quick rack steering and upgraded suspension. Right now mine's in the body shop for paint and a bit of restoration. It is rhd with the steel dash. I was wondering from the sound of the engine, are you running Webers instead of the SUs?

  • LOL

  • Well done! I enjoyed wayching this.

  • A 69 MGC keeping up with a Porsche Carrera S. I call that delusional.

  • I have a MGC 1969 2.9 litre Old English Rose Roadster.....the same engine as yours by the sound of it....great car and I know for sure it can easily keep up with a porsche....raced one on an Italian motorway once..

  • yeah good n all, but i was waiting for the overtake and it never came , shame

  • It could have happened on another road, but this one is too narrow and twisty to pass safely unless you're racing a bicycle... uphill! The speed of the cars is much faster than it appears in the video.

  • Nice sounding C

  • This looks like the US somewere. Is it California.. where?

  • The road is in Southern California, near Los Angeles.

  • my man, I can only say you got skills, gret driver, holdin' to a Porsche like that, bends taken perfectly... awesome ride !!!

  • I can only presume the Porsche had lost 2 cylinders somewhere?

  • no, they come with only 6.

  • Pity that the video quality isn't better. I'd love to hear this clip with better sound. The C ranks right up there with the 12-can Italians and air cooled Porsche engines as having just about the prettiest sounding engines when driven hard that there are. (Nothing against the triple 45DCOE's; were I racing a C, it's what I'd probably opt for, but I love the SU whistle when the engine's getting just the right amount and mix for max acceleration. Downton stage III FTW.)

    Gorgeous car in great tune

  • THIS one had me on the edge of my seat! Nice driving. GO MG!

  • its really brother against brother. both hot six cylinders both german made

  • M.G. is as British as it gets. They are not German-made. The Porsche has a high-revving V6 and the M.G. a torquey inline-6.

  • Porsche has a low rev. Torque Flatsix 3.8L 355Hp 400Nm

  • Porsche is a flat 6 (boxer) engine, MGC is a straight 6 engine, most folk wouldnt know the difference, just that bulge in the bonnet to tell it from a 1800cc B series engined MGB, the C had the Westminster 6 engine, 3 ltr

  • @BritCarGuy Ive got a B with the stock I-4, the torque is ridiculous... but lack of power shows around my place. Wish they woulda made it 5-speed with the o/d...

  • @travisbickel ????? Those cars are like chalk and cheese. It's a Spitfire against a messerschmitt (and we know who won THAT battle) ;)

  • A 'C' GT, understood and smoothly driven as this one is, is a very fast and a very SAFE car. Midrange acceleration is extraordinary and the car just gives and gives. Such a pity the petty press killed it at birth.

  • is this a later triple carb version or the twin carb version, beautiful car the C. 3 litre lump XD is she all standard tune and suspension?

  • This car is works specification running triple 45DCOE Webers. Engine is 3015cc inline 6-cylinder. Suspension is slightly uprated with stiffer torsion bars, quick steering ratio and wider wheels and tires. Like the Porsche it has unique handling characteristics that take a while to learn, only this car has no computers or power assist on anything!

  • ah i know what they're like to drive, i have a 2200 Mgb Gt with twin weber 45DCOE goes like a rocket im not too keen on how the steering gets progressively harder as you turn though

  • Nice motor you've got there BritCarGuy, see youtube "MGCGTS" at Snetterton, that's me.

    Great cars!

  • Atta Boy!!! Score one more for the Brits. WWII all over again. You had him in your sights all the way.

  • Having a bit of fun, I came up on a guy in a Carrera S. Once traffic cleared, he took off while in a residential area so I let him go. He slowed when I didn't follow. Once in a safer area we had a bit of fun. I think he was VERY surprised that he couldn't shake a 38-year-old M.G.!
