We stayed in the pub, just had the bikes out the back. We jagged perfect conditions... it was very crisp about 2 degrees but the whole length of the track had just been graded. magic riding and river was low so no water crossings. Fingers were numb as we dropped down into Bathurst! thank god for heated hand grips!
I just dragged out my credit card statement ... looks like it was $75 back in May 09. Nothing flash though and that didn't include any breakfast. But this is Hill End!! There are a few B&Bs may be worth googling and checking out .
It was a great ride the day we did it ... but in different conditions could easily be a very dangerous ride.... The big drop is a short section with a sheer 400 meter drop... track is only 1 car width wide and it goes straight over.... as you probably saw from teh video I'm not good with heights but was fine while I rode in the wheel track closest to the hill.... my mate (the other Dave) rode right eat the edge. Have a great ride!! cheers.
The miners working for Hill End Gold have pretty much taken over most of the accommodation available... like the man says, Google "Hill End accommodation" and you'll find some what is open to the travelling public. PS the pub is for sale, got a spare $790,000???? How did you fare going down Monaghan's Bluff!!???
I found it an easy ride and I am petrified of heights!! ...but if you watched my video you'll see that I'm riding hard up against the cliff face as far away from the edge as possible... the other 'crazy' Dave is riding at the edge! the drop is about 200 metrs straight down. It's got nothing on the ride we did from Cooma staight to the coast via the national park!! I crazy 900 meter sheer drop with the narrow track into the side of the cliff!!! now that was scary on the big Beemas!
@bigarseproductions - I truly appreciate your fear of heightss - my first trip down the Bridle Track from Hill End in a Pajero long-wheel base 4WD nearly did it for me.... another time going up from Bathurst in a 4WD wagon got a flat on Monaghans Bluff - couldn't handle the fear of heights and drove out on the rim... not a good look!..very pedestrian these days.
Fantastic! It's a great road! Nice Video!

Thanks for the info. I'm pretty sure there is a NPWS camping ground just over the road (walking distance).
