Looks to me like Salo wouldn't have fallen that way had he not turned his hips at that last minute. Marchand was playing the puck and attempted to continue to play the puck after making the "hit." Salo was the one skating into Marchand, who had the puck, prior to "hitting" Salo.

Of course Vigneault is going to defend his play and lace into Marchand.

I hate seeing guys get hurt, but I also think that guys protecting themselves shouldn't be penalized for doing so.
