He is and always has been a Libertarian. His ideas are not those of the Republican party. We would never support legalizing drugs or abandoning our role as the world's lone superpower or surrendering to terrorism.
Libertarians will pay for national defense, even if that makes us a superpower, but not for empire. Republicans are in favor of legalizing some very dangerous and destructive recreational drugs, but not others. Ron Paul wants to the states to decide which drugs are legal. Surrender means allowing the enemy to occupy our country. Ask Germany and Japan. Withdrawing from territory that is not ours is not surrender. Al-Qaeda is fighting us in Iraq instead of planning and executing attacks in the US. Our presence in Iraq is critical to defeating terrorism in the long term.

As far as we know NOW, Iraq did not have any direct involvement in 911. However that does mean that 911 was not a factor in our change towards Saddam remaining in power. Saddam was pursuing WMDs. This is a well established fact. If he ever got his hands on even one, he could supply it to terrorists. This war was never really about Iraqi oil.

First, do everything you can to prevent a second attack on American soil, including aggressively interrogating captured terrorists. This is why we have the Patriot Act and Homeland Security. Second, by invading Iraq, we establish a free and democratic country in the heart of the Middle East. This is something terrorists cannot allow to happen. When they come, kill them.

Republicans are in favor of legalizing some very dangerous and destructive recreational drugs, but not others. Ron Paul wants to the states to decide which drugs are legal. I think it's really stretching it to say a pullout from Iraq is "surrendering" to Al-Qaeda, but the US hasn't even won a war since WWII. I don't see what difference it makes, having an extra loss on their record. They screwed up and have to own up to it rather than continuing the same wrong thing in the hopes that it might turn around.

You just do not appreciate the consequences of simply pulling out of Iraq. Invading Iraq was not a mistake. It is a vital part of a greater strategy of fighting terrorism. Al-Qaeda is fighting us in Iraq instead of planning and executing attacks in the US. Our presence in Iraq is critical to defeating terrorism in the long term.

As far as we know NOW, Iraq did not have any direct involvement in 911. However that does mean that 911 was not a factor in our change towards Saddam remaining in power. Saddam was pursuing WMDs. This is a well established fact. If he ever got his hands on even one, he could supply it to terrorists. This war was never really about Iraqi oil.

First, do everything you can to prevent a second attack on American soil, including aggressively interrogating captured terrorists. This is why we have the Patriot Act and Homeland Security. Correct, there was no great number of terrorists in Iraq WHEN we invaded. However by neutralizing the threat of Saddam, we created a situation that forced the terrorists to come to Iraq and attempt to stop us. This accomplished multiple objectives. First, the terrorists must deal with our military in foreign country, not our law enforcement community the US. Second, it causes them to lose support when they kill fellow Muslims. Third, long term, a free democratic country in the Middle East.

We are not the "babysitters" of the world. Who has been the one nation to step up when needed to protect the world, WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Each of these wars involved a threat we need to deal with BEFORE it came to our shores. Iraq is a similar situation. Now we are fighting radical Islam. There is no denying that fact.

You need to look at why individuals join to terrorist cause although I'm sure there are a few that are coerced into fighting which kind of sounds like a military draft.
I'm mainly against stampeding around the world, but I also believe that there is a just use of our military for aiding oppressed people.
