1:42 "Newt who?" Newt looks at Captain Call and after awkward pause says "Newt Dobbs ma'am" It was so disappointing in the book and the movie that Call could never give his name to Newt. It's real and raw. Happens everyday. Sad but true.
@allis40 makes me cry everytime.-- personally as a women--i will take that rugged look over the metrosexual look anyday of the year. have also watched and read all the sequals too.
The History Channel ran a Lonesome Dove segment last year ~ Gus and Call were based on REAL ex-Tx Rangers Charles Goodnight and Oliver Loving, that broke a new trail to lead a herd of cattle to New Mexico. Oliver (Gus) was scouting ahead with "PeaEye" and attacked/trapped just like this. They found Pea Eye disoriented in the desert... Oliver somehow made his way to a fort. Charles Goodnight found him & was w/ him when he died. He honored Oliver's wish to be buried back in Texas. :o)
open range, broken trail, Geranimo; an Am. Legend. are also other master pieces of Mr. Duvall. sadly he is getting old and seems like no one has skills to fill his gap. Creates incredible chemistry between his character in the viewers in his movies. exceptional talent
@Elcore I agree- I was never a big fan of Anjelica Huston- but she conveys that transformation so well. A real kiss too- two people that never stopped loving each other. I'm a cynic of love scenes, but the two of them have good chemistry.
Uno de los mejores, sino el mejor film sobre los hitos de la conquista del oeste norteamericano. R:Duval: un grande . tenemos la suerte de tenerlo residiendo en Argentina. Lo entrevistamos en Observatorioia con gran placer.

I know this movie like the back of my hand - I've watched it seriously about 200 times or so - (geek alert! lol ;):D ) so I can help you out if you still need it - I see you asked 8 months ago though:( bummer. Anyway, if I can help out, let me know. Sorry I couldn't help sooner. XOXO, Katie
Diane Lane: The quintessential wholesome beauty. Agelica Huston: The absolute epitome of class and elegance. This is singlehandedly, the very best Western story ever captured on film and this scene is one of the most touching and realistic ever acted out. I have this entire series on VHS and I watch it every year while on vacation.
Cage ..nothing to add but that you have absoutley nailed it......if not for the fact that it was a network mini-series ....academy award for sure.....one of the greatest movies EVER made...............
Thanks for posting. This is an awesome scene. Anjelica is so fabulous. I can so believe the love between Gus & Clara. I also respect that Clara wouldn't trade herself respect for her love for Gus. It was so sweet of her to take Lorrie in and give her a home.
best show

That look on AH's face when she realized....If that wasn't the finest acting ever, then I am as brave as Woodrow. And I ain't.

Anjelica Huston's finest moment - goes convincingly from middle-aged mother to little girl in the distance between the bedroom and the garden gate.
