I was thinking that when I started planning the Raby engine swap. It would have been cheaper, but in my local club racing, I would no longer be classed as a Porsche with the STI engine. I think a 400HP STI would be awesome, but couldn't use the lighter 901 transmission (to weak). So the weight would warrant wider tires and such. I think it might make a better track car, but maybe not quite as good for autocross (where weight matters more).
I would like to have a WRX STI. Maybe my next car.
Are you taking it to the rpm at which it develops peak power or are you just going easy on it? I ask because your tach is clearly designed for high revving motors and you only seem to use 500rpm of the second region of the tach. You're mostly staying in the range where the numbers are close together rather than the range where each 1000rpm increment is spaced way apart. Why not just use a tachometer with normal spacing when you have a low revving motor? Then you can tell your rpm more easily.
This way the very first time on the track with the new motor. The oil cooler in the front of the car was fine for the old motor, but with this engine, I was having heating problems (just oil, not head temp). I was hitting over 250F (121C) and the oil pressure was falling off. So I was taking it easy. See my autocross videos where I wind it up. I installed a new Setrab cooler to solve the heating problems. The motor is good to 7500, but I wanted a higher peak tach with memory, in case I mis-shift
that type four sounds great, my dream car is a speedster pre a intermechanica speedster with a raby motor three liter, cryogentics, the new cast aluminum heads and nickies,
That motor is a torque monster.

Thanks! Yes, the 914 make great well balanced track cars. All my high speed driving has been in this car.

What's that they say? If you need to ask, then you can afford it. I can say they aren't free, but worth every dime. It's got 44 Webers and Raby dist.
" I'm glad to hear you get what you pay for w/ raby motors. reputation is everything.
Dreams into reality . I'm sure is never cheap .

Just curious approx how much was this turnkey one of a kind engine. I assume it's raby F I and Ignition as opposed to WEBERS ?

I was thinking of building a 914 with the 2.5 liter WRX STI turbo'd engine. What do you think?
I've driven the STI many times and it's an insane monster. I can only wonder what it would be like in a 914.

Excellent ! What Raby engine is it ? Is it a kit or a turnkey ? What specs 2055 or more ?
johannes914 3 years ago
It's a turnkey 2.4L one of a kind. 210+ HP on the dyno.
