  • Man, I LOVE THIS BGM!! So nostalgic

  • one of my favorite games :_D

  • Love this.

  • Haha, whales humping intro.

  • This song is so quick, it's like there and all of a sudden it's gone. But it sticks, this song changes you.

  • Beautiful music

  • Is this like the original sword of mana. I know sword of mana was made by Square too so im just wondering.

  • @Dahlmarr Not quite. Sword of Mana is a remake/retelling of an older game (known as a Final Fantasy game on the gameboy here in the US, although that has since been corrected). Secret of Mana is a sequel to that game IIRC.

  • One of the best intros in any game, love it.

  • a great song but the very beginning is creepy as hell

  • this is one of the first songs i used to teach myself how to play the piano....ahhhhh nostalgia....

  • the piano patch was really good. probably the best i heard in an SNES game

  • A grand and beautiful opening to one of the greatest video games ever made.

What happened to video games having actual themes instead of just background music.

  • It's like Stuttering Crag and Handsome Tom said:

"Right after the name of the game's programmer, you see the composer's name. Think about it!"

  • Just finished playing through this game with a friend of mine, first time he'd beaten the game and my second. I have to say that playing this game with a friend (or two) really makes the experience all the better. I strongly recommend getting some friends, downloading the game for your Wii, and just make a day out of playing it.

  • Unterwegs in Düsterburg. Wer's versteht, PN me! :)

  • One of the best ever. I love wistful, bittersweet sounding themes in games.

  • I never finished this game...partially because I always thought that whatever the mana tree looked like in the game, it could never compare to what I imagined it would be like

  • Everytime i hear this it's like the first time i hear this.....i STILL can't believe that VGM could be so beautiful.....

  • omg i seriously felt my eyes burn from nostalgia.

  • I think I almost cried...

  • 16years after hearing it for the first time, taht song STILL gives me chills...it's THAT good. Aaaaah the golden age of videogames...

  • I remember when I first heard the opening to this song with it's whale calls and the gentle piano. I sensed that this represented something much bigger than myself. The picture of the Mana Tree with the kids and the shots of endless trees from the sky. The deep forests. I knew something was missing and that there were deep pockets of the world our there with a powerful and hidden glow to them. Deep shades of green and falling leaves glinted by the sun. This song still holds deep meaning for me.

  • I swear I almost felt exactly what you just wrote and I was around 6 when I played this game. Its so weird how much emotions a game or scene can create and its just a game ya know? The Secret of Mana music will always be with me forever, it still gives me chills after all these years!

  • I think its the whale calls mixed with the trees. And the emotions I felt were strange, cause they were kinda mystical and people these days aren't really in touch with anything mystical anymore. I appreciated reading your comments my friend. very cool : )

  • For some reason this always makes me think of the poster for this game, with the mana tree making the kids look the size of ants. What an awesome picture.

  • me 2. and the whale sounds were really powerful.

  • I always thought this was the best song in the game.

  • WHEN THE WORLD HAD GOOD RPGS UNTIL 1998

  • I still have this game with the package, booklet and the map, hooray for that!! Epic song by the way.

  • I was 6 when I played this game. I had a pneumonia so I couldn't go to school so I played all day long for two weeks =)

  • My personal favorite game of all time. 13 years old, Grades dropping in middle school from playing too many late nights of this game. Somethings are just beautiful, and as pathetic it may sound to some, my memory of this game will never be forgotten.

  • still, a great classic <3

  • Classic stuff right there... Funny because I listened to this soundtrack today! SNES era was awesome, where Squaresoft was creating only 1 RPG per year, but those were all classic!

  • I love this classic game

  • k i wont but thumbs down for using caps and asking for pity

  • Classic, absolutely classic.

  • Man, when you turned this game on for the first time and heard that, didn't you just know right then that this was going to be a special game?

I honestly can't decide whether this game or Legend of Mana had the best music in the series. Both are awesome.

  • Meridian Dance is still my favourite. I guess the fact you managed to add six themes from this game to your list not including that one only shows how great this soundtrack really is.

  • Damn it took a long time before it was finally added to this great list of VGM. Great little piece.

  • so epic

    gotta love it

  • I've completely forgot about this track, and thanks to Supra, he restored a lost classic! People who go around saying "omg this should be higher" aren't true Supra fans.

  • I could listen to this forever

  • Ah yes. This classic memorable theme.

Though I still don't know what the 'whale sounds' were about at the beginning.

  • I think those are wolves, actually....

    Can't be too sure though.

  • You hear the same sound in one of the laboratories later on. I think it's actually the sounds of the imprisoned mana spirits.

  • Yeah, I thought they were wolves too. Still, it doesn't really make sense why it's there. I like it, though.

  • Nothing could have set the stage better for what's to come than this.

  • LOVE THIS GAME! ahhh the memories this tune brings, this followed by the game load selection screen music.

  • One of my all time favorite games for sure.

  • I love that part at 0:56 where it gets all energetic.

  • I thought you already had this on your list.

It must be my imagination. :(

  • Dude, you did not have that on your list till now??? shame on you! imo one of the top 10 in vg music!

  • To be fair, his #40 song was the DuckTales Moon Theme, which everybody knows is one of the best songs in gaming.

  • If I had added all the classic songs at the start of the list, there wouldn't be anything like that to look forward to by now. :P

  • Then at least add some more obscure songs that we can like. You've heard of Cocoron, so add the Fairy Forest theme (trust me, that and the boss battle music are SUPERB). Or at least some Terranigma...

  • He's got Terranigma on the list.

  • I'm aware. The problem is that he doesn't have enough of it :P:|.

  • Is there a problem with that? -.-

  • Who the hell said I thought it was good due to its obscurity? I like it because it's a good game. I've played tons of great mainstream games (Brawl, FF7, etc.) and several bad games nobody has heard of (Cyborg Justice, Brain Lord, etc.). I want more Terranigma on the list because it had so many great themes. Beyond the Sealed Door, both overworld themes, Battle with Dark Gaia, the Intro Theme, I could go on and on with great songs.

  • terranigma was fucking awesome.

    needs moar terranigma.

but this is cool too though.

hell, I've not seen many tunes SD put up I didn't like at least a little.

  • isn't the songs actual name "fear of the heavens"?

  • man, i'm waiting for shadow of the colossus music since the time i've first subscribed you.. i think all themes from that game could be in, and there is none o n your list xD

  • Ah, such a nostalgic and beautiful theme.

  • Its a good song to a good game. I think i must play this game again!

  • I would, but I know that I liked it, and I only replay games when I can't remember anything about them. And on the subject, when's Dark Star going to be added? That was a kickass song and a great way to (near) end the game.

  • I'm really surprised that this wasn't on your list before. I'm sure I listened to it on one of your playlists. Whatever, still a great song from a great game!

  • Damn I miss this game
