Buddy Holly continues to entertain and bring enjoyment to music fans as much now as when he lived. I believe his songs will be played and loved by persons for decades in the future and that he will influence many more generations. What greater testimony can there be to his talent?
Buddy was on the cusp of being what he wanted to be, such a shame that he never got to be it. I really believe the whole British Invasion would never have been had he lived.
@pleasestop1000 yeah the Beatles did suck, only a hand few of good songs from them, but the Stones on the other hand was the band that seemed to continue his style of music, in my mind. They kept the blues appeal and really expanded on the Jazz sound a more. I know Buddy hated the Idea of being Jazz like, but the proof is in the pudding. Still the man was very close to what I consider the ideal music.
In the words of Kieth Richards, "Not bad for a kid from Lubbock.".
LEGEND....WITHOUT THE GENIUS OF BUDDY HOLLY...There would have been no Beatles, at least not in the form that we know them as. His spirit...the soul of rock n' roll in his music.... still lives His carnal presence may have faded on that fatal day the music died... but I believe that he is now singing with the angels up on high until the Lord returns with His chosen ones someday. He is no longer physically present but we can still feel his whole being echo through the music.
Absolutely beautiful. An overdubbed early Nashville session. He was underated with his early un-commercial material, which was amongst the best around at the time.
this is a song that I didn't hear first time around because I was only 10 or 11 so I can sympathise with people who have discovered this song. Love to all
Sad news for all Buddy Holly fans: The dean of our fraternity, Bill Griggs of Lubbock Texas, THE Buddy Holly expert and true rock and roll fan and researcher extraordinaire, has passed away. We will miss his friendship and dedication to great music. Rock On Bill!
A lot of musical geniuses die young, weather it be technology that kills them, or speaking their mind, overdosing on alchohol, they die. and its so sad :( i wish i had grown up in the 50's, i would have gotten to experiance Buddy Holly, Elvis, The Beatles, John Lennons solo career, Led Zeppelin and countless other amazing artists. it's sort of depressing to think, Paul McCartney, Ringo, Robert Plant, ect. there getting old :( I'm also rather sad that i was born in the mid90's,not the late 40's :/
@TheSquadalahMan Theses guys will live on forever. I too was born in the mid 90's! 50's-70's was musics prime generation. There was some good 80's and 90's like Nirvana and Van Halen. If you like Blues Rock music, check out the Black Keys. They are a band that brings back REAL MUSIC!
Considering that Buddy Holly was only 22 when he died & made almost 80 recordings, mostly songs that he wrote himself, it makes you wonder what he might have achieved, had he lived
This brings back memories of when I started courting my lovely wife Val, we used to smooch at the Youth Club in the 50's to this and bop to all his rock recordes. The Greatest Ever, beats Elvis. chavalg
Wow! Pearls of wisdom there. But I'm 64 now and I'm still learning. You're right she was attracted to a shell with little inside-but I've grown since. The theory that there are 7 ages to man (and maybe woman too) holds true for .I cringe now at the stuff I got up to.I'm a Scorp. and true to type have matured with age and learnt how much of a shell the human body is...its a cliche but you can't beat whats inside...ever.
I remember playing this again and again when I got dumped by my first teen love...i met her in a cafe and she was going out with someone else who she dumped for me... a warning sign?
No. she thought you were worthy leaving her ex for. maybe it was you who didn't know how to keep her and maybe she regretted the exchange she had made but she probably learned something from it all, i hope. (i've done similar things and hurt a lot of people in my past (and i've regretted Bitterly) but i've Learned How To Love.) Love Should Never Be Generalised. :-)
Congratulations for posting this rarity of a Best and more complet artist from 50ths in my opinion. Songwriter, spetacular singer and guittar player.....
Buddy, receive our prayers and good vibrations to you in heaven with God.
Congratulations Alan... I dowloading to my cell phone to listen every day.
When I die, the first person I want to see is Buddy Holly...and hopefully he will be singin' Rock N' Roll. R.I.P. to the "true King of Rock N' Roll" not a day goes by I don't think about him or listen to his rockin' tunes!
This little known but nonetheless poignant and beautifully simple track was released as the flip side of "Wishing" in the UK in 1963 and has always been one of my favourite Buddy Holly tracks.
if he was so influential on the beatles and the stones, and they influenced the rest of the world, imagine where we would be today musically if he had lived longer
What an extraordinary talent was BH.....I haven't heard this simple little masterpiece for well over 40 years, but upon JUST playing this YT I was SO freshly 'moved'; it's ALMOST like hearing High Church music.....Ave Maria or a Bach cantata, and the blessed lad was ONLY 22yrs. & 149 days when he was stolen from us. Oh for 'pop' to have anything of this standard these days, but BH's era of romantic sincerity is a thing of the past, and humanity's GREAT Loss. RIP Charles Hardin Holley. Amen.
@punkrockNbuddyholly Amen........what a truly wonderful little comment. Buddy's beautiful voice & sensitivity could bring a tear to a glass eye, and this exquisite gem makes me oh-so 'misty' that it actually kinda HURTS, even after ALL these years.
The young man was a TRUE GENIUS.........Bless his revered memory & Thank GOD for his time with us......theTRUE MESSIAH of popular music xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
This has always been one of my favourite Buddy Holly songs but sadly none of the tribute artists seem to think it is worth incuding in their shows.
