Bands rarely played live on TV at any time in history, because it's better to get a good REEL performance than it is a good REAL performance.

As for Alex's drumkit, could be. I was kind of thinking that it was a set of drums that belonged to Soul Train, and Alex was just playing them for the purpose of the show. It actually looks a lot like Neil Peart's 1984 Grace Under Pressure tour Tama kit.

@patnry haha, kinda weird, but for a metal band , VH had more 'funk' than most other hard rock bands. You can tell they sound pretty hot here, in spite of the poor audio recording capture
