  • It's great to see a foreigner taking the poor standards of American education into his own hands. This looks very much like the no-nonsense approach the Chinese have to education. I like it. It's what the country needs.

  • This has nothing to do with the race, just how poorly children do poor inner city schools. It doesn't help the reputatin of middle class black students, not that they have much of one, that i know of. Black immigrants do well in school purely because that is what they came here to do, however in their home countries the students are no more sucessful than black Americans. I'm not saying that it couldn't be purely environmental causes, but this news story doesn't prove anything either.

  • After the cameras leave they all eat fried chicken and kool-aid then go home.

  • Great Principal. Very pragmatic and correct. It's not about funds. It's really about the culture the students are from. This is why Asian Americans so often do well in school, even as poor immigrants. So, absent that among most inner city black kids, Medgar Evers Prep is creating that cultural expectation for them in the school. Hope they can keep it going.

  • WOO WOO. I LOV MY SCHOOL. :)

  • lol the problem is teachers. my teacher thinks its more important on how much effort you put into your work rather then your ability to get the answer right.

  • Inner city schools make the US look bad. They are the reason why we suck at tests compared to other countries.

  • why are all the teachers and principle african.

  • @thumple there not, most of them are from the carribean there not only three african teachers, the rest are hinese, white, black, jamaican, guyannes, trinidadian, and other carribean islands.

  • Haven't you noticed that most of the inner city blacks are dark skinned as opposed to their light skinned counterparts. I've noticed that some of the most destitute blacks tend to be a lot darker while the professional blacks tend to be lighter skinned. I wonder if the white majority feels more comfortable around very light skinned blacks and that's why they allow them to get a few extra crumbs of opportunity. Hmmm

  • @Thedarksecret1 Excellent insight. Even though you posited your statement rhetorically, the assumption you framed is unequivocally factual. The system of racism white supremacy implements a "color coded hierarchy," with those in the black community who most closely approximate a white physiognomy at the top while the darkest ones are completely ostracized or demoted in terms of socio-economic and political ranking.

  • @Thedarksecret1 Also, the specious reasoning of the petty bourgeois and obtuse principal is repugnant. He is characteristic of a segment in the black community who blames the predicament--that many of us must endure in this society--on the victims.

  • @Thedarksecret1 I don't see what you're talking about at all. There's just as many darkskinned blacks doing well as lighter complexioned ones. Unless you a referring to those with a white parent there is basically no difference in opportunities granted.

  • @Thedarksecret1 If you're gonna make the claim that certain black people benefit from being of lighter hue how do you explain the majority of blacks in schools like harvard being from africa and not african americans?

  • Wee-hah! Go deh, Dr. Wilshire! Nothing like a little applied Jamaican no-nonsense pedagogy to escape the diminished expectations of the American educationist industry. Thank you for posting!

    Lady Barrister Drogyne

  • I've noticed that black students from the West Indies and Africa tend to do far better than African-American and even white schools. It's not a coincidence that the principal of this school is a foreigner.

  • one hell of a principal

  • dis is mi skool!

  • That just goes to show you that color has nothing to do with the strength of the mind or intellectual powers. Well the bell curve rule goes out the window as we can all see.
