This is just fantastic - I first saw Aguirre Wrath of God when I was about 18, 30 years ago, and I have never forgotten it, I was totally transfixed. The music brings it all back instantly
This accompanies one of the greatest opening scenes in cinema...
Herzog's camera gliding over and focussing into people climbing across Machu Picchu..... Such a great-great film! I may have to watch it again later.....
the ending of this film makes me shed tears, i know everyone has its own el dorado dream. To think that this enterprise happened a long long time ago, if i had a time machine i would love to go back in time and meet lope de aguirre, i know klaus kinski is da best ressemblance to this character
Chercher à s'approprier cet univers comme on pense pouvoir le faire avec du Floyd par exemple est une erreur. Il faut être très prudent et ne l'aborder que dans certaines conditions d'ultra réceptivité. J'entends par là dans des moments de détente absolue.

@steveavison I don't agree that Bowie and Eno ripped them off. Bowie and Eno were already hugely creative artists for a number of years before they came into contact with Krautrock. They were certainly influenced and inspired by Krautrock artists, but equally Krautrock artists were influenced and inspired by Western European/American free jazz and rock. I also saw the KRAUTROCK documentary. It's brilliant.
@1Geronimodeleon Type in "Krautrock - the Rebirth of Germany" into the You Tube browser and you will get to the BBC 4 documentary. It's an amazing overview of the scene.
German history of experimental electronic music... wonderful stuff, I was in my late teens when all this happened, saw Tangerine Dram live, by then no one had an Idea, same with Pink Floyd their first performance in Berlin happened in the Auditorium Maximum of the TU Berlin, maybe 500-800 visitors.... what a concert!

Thanks for uploading! I heard this in the recent BBC Krautrock documentary and I thought it was just so beautiful, I wish I had this track with me when I was in Germany last year driving on the Autobahn and going through thick dense forests of Baden-Württemberg... Good times! ;o)
Buscando música del grupo alemán Popol Vuh me tope con esta excelente pieza de música y video. He leído que el compositor es un mexicano. Diganme la banda PV tiene algo que ver con esta grabación o solo es el nombre de la obra?
I love krautrock, Neu!, Kraftwek, wonderful music. I'm still discovering it, I am amazed, for me this style it's most versatile style this world ever saw, I don't have words to say about this music. To me is more than wonderful, amazing, stunning, magnanimous, bewitched... I don't know, it's from heaven, outer space... Sorry, I spent my english... lol
the clips they showed were interesting but I found they focussed too much in certain areas.
Tangerine Dreams influence was almost totally overlooked but it was nice to see that Neu got a good airing.
I hated the way the BBC mentioned that bit from Fawlty Towers and the other of Dads Army.
this was supposed to be a programme about how incredible innovative the musicians were in the 60/70's and yet they wanted to show how the UK still perceived Germany and it was totally unnecessary.

I cannot see why it would take so long for you to get used to it. It may help you to just compare it to Apocalypse Now as it is essentially a similar story with many of the same themes and even elements (a perilous river trip in a hostile jungle with men going mad with power). We may think it a Heart of Darkness set in colonial times.
I remember reading in an interview with Coppola in which he stated Aguirre as one of his main influences for Apocalypse Now. I prefer Aguirre myself though, my favourite Herzog film along with Stroszek.
