She was not "black-eyed." I believe I read at the time of her death that her eyes were a startling gray, and the eyes and complexion were never really captured on film. As beautiful as some people are on camera, they are even more so in real life. Gale Harold is like that, and I'm told Lee Remick was as well.
She was so beautiful...tcm should do more than just silent sundays to really promote these silent movies and actors/actresses because they are the best!
right,,,,and right again. As a matter of fact Hitler had a thing for her,but she did everything she could to stay away from him. Can't say I blame her for that.
My goodness but she's not only lovely and talented, she has that charisma and magic that once you see her,you won't forget her.
She retired in San Antonio, Texas and she lived down the street from my grandmother. They used to talk about silent films and my grandmother never knew who she was until she gave her an autographed photo. My grandmother accompanied silents on the piano in New Orleans, LA. She got to meet quite a few of the stars of that era too. I wish I had written her memories down!

She said her greatest love was Rudy Valentino. The Adolf Hitler affair rumor is false.
