basquiat was a mediocre film, but diving bell and the butterfly is one of the greatest films i have ever seen, the cinematography was incredible, same guy who did Munich, the main characters father is played by Max von Sydow star of seventh seal who is incredible, the cast is great, visually stunning and incredibly directed, there is a reason this man won best directer at Cannes this year, yes he sounds like a self indulgent asshole when he talks, but this film was incredible

Whether or not you respect Schnabel's art, this film is beautifully done. I saw it at the Toronto Film Festival. And, it's a memoir, people, so how much can you really stray? Go see it - the story is amazing. Then decide.

His art is garbage. PLATES?! Basquiat laughed at his stuff. So he makes a film to put it to Jean Michel. BUT his film about the great Basquiat will not be the definitive biopic of such a great artist! His films? mediocre at best. It is true he is a self indulgent twat!

It seems like a name drop to you because you're impressed and jealous it seems. He's friends with Johny, he's a director it's not name dropping it's fact but that rubbed you the wrong way because YOU'RE THAT GUY.

I don't know Schnabel but he seems extremely unpretentious. This film is the best I've seen in years. I cried all the way through, laughed some too. I thought about every scene all day long, that hasn't happened to me since The Pianist.
