Think of it more as an alternate universe, where everyone from the series is placed in the future. It's really not a sequel at all. The series and the OVA share characters, but that's about it.
humm looks weird, its either everyone get turned into the walking dead "thought the old police person got shot n died in the river?" or new york is on some super high tech development, from crapy buick Clair had from the original series to the hoverboard, flying transportation, flying police car, thats some really huge time gap,

It looks like it's not going to be a continuation of the series like everyone first assumed seeing that all the original characters are back. And by the looks of it, it seems that the girls look more like the enemies rather than Herve. And maybe Luke/Rook and Sam are fighting against the girls, too??
