  • Needle scalers are effective for this application although the one being used is pre-historic. Try looking at UK manufacturer Trelawny SPT Ltd, they have a great range of low vibration needle scalers with optional vacuum shrouds to contain all paints/materials being removed which would also stop the canal from being poluted! They have an extensive range of marine equipment for most descaling and coatings removal applications and have dealers throughout the UK.

  • i would use special 60- 80 sanding disks in my grinder, they dont scrape the metal like a regular sanding disk, and there great for flat surfaces.

  • and all the removed paint, rust, metal goes right into the canal very nice, can also asume when repainting thinner and other chemicals go into canal also.

  • austrailian garnet (red)sand no silica awsome sa2.5 ,encapsulate surface keep steel up to 23 degrees,2 coats of FAST red blast primer ,if soda or waterblast used ,use apro primers not dry grit primers, rust hates me ....

  • unfortunately I don't seem to be able to read all your advice, it ends rust hates me.... red blast primer- what is a uk product do you know?

  • i always wondered what needle scalers did thanx

  • Try sodablasting, it will work 100% and it's more faster than that.

  • you need a more powerfull pot and get someone in to do it for you.
