I'm white and I cried watching that trailer. Racism is despicable, and I'm do glad that I don't have that in my heart. If I was around during the time, I could have done everything I can to help out.

Looks like a great film, I love the stories of those who fought for justice throughout history, its like a beautiful style of poetry in the history of the world. People like Rosa Parks inspire me to fight for the rights of animals, since we live in a world that is generally speciesist, it keeps me confident in knowing that things can change.

I don't see her as part of Black history or someone was against the white people. I see her as someone fought for the human rights... she was someone that stood up for all of us. Racism is something that you have to feel to understand and I am very thankful that I don't have it in my heart. So I can't see her as the first black woman doing something, but I can see her as a HERO that showed to the world we are all the same, and there is no reason for HATE.

What's being paranoid about ingrained racism manifesting themselves in self-segregation? Why would someone like to be discriminated against? It's bad enough people do not like differences of skin color and do not understand how racism affects the victims and not the aggressor. People do love to complain and point fault in others, but in this case, there is plenty of fault in our racist society if some African American people self-segregate.

@outinsider maybe blacks should try branching out and not make their own little black communities these days when they don't need too. maybe southern states are different but doing this in places like NYC or LA is just plain dumb. some are just handed down this self pity from past generations and family members who may have experienced it in the 60's. times have drastically changed but blacks still say nothing has changed at all. some act like they fear the kkk when they live in NYC.

but if that is true, so what? doesn't mean you have to vandalize it. you don't have to litter or you can even pick up litter when you see it. pull some weeds, even weeds growing in the cracks of pavement. sounds insignificant but it adds up and especially after a while. facts is some blacks do care about their falling community and most other blacks laugh at them for caring and trying. some black "ghettos" have a very artist village look. go with that.

I was referring to white people and their low social expectations of who a black person can be in society. I am not saying that every black person cannot be successful in a racist society like ours, because many are, but our inner city is failing is mostly due to white flight, and not saying that white people cannot screw things up too, but that only reinforces the expected social failure.

@outinsider if i was black i would wanna prove anyone wrong if they had low expectations of me cuz i was black, or blacks in general, especially if that was a common general expectation. some blacks are way better to live next to than some whites in my experience, but not for the most part at all yet. most whites may be goofy but i think most have learned from the ignorance of past whites. if most blacks refuse to believe that then we are accomplishing nothing.

Many have, I am not dismissing that, but our racist society still values a white person more than a black person. Rather than making every life equal and dignified, our racist society expects black people to fail and acts utterly surprised when they do fail as if they did not expect nor plan it to happen. If white people really learned from the ignorance of past whites, there would not be racism still. It is not the black person's fault for white person's failings.

When society does it best to fail a person and acts surprised when they do even though they have directly and indirectly contributed to fail that person, what more can you expect? White people don't need to blame black people for making it in life, because their white social privilege will keep rewarding them and blaming whatever faults they do have on people of different skin color. Also, if white people dominate society, and can reinforce racism, a black person has to take that.

When a black person achieves something of importance, white people think they do not deserve it and expect them to be on a pedestal of perfection. I mean, look at how white America treats President Obama. Or how about in education? Rather than do what they can to make every individual succeed, there is more of an expectation that black students will be unruly and not care about their education, there is an achievement gap. And, get rid of this us versus them mentality.

Fighting against racial discrimination is helping African Americans better themselves by bettering their circumstances. If it was not for the NAACP, Brown versus Board Of Education would not have passed. You want to give African American youth a chance to better themselves? Here's an idea: consider them equal to the chance to better themselves by not seeing their skin and seeing their qualities. Consider thinking that they are equal and deserve the same thing white people get.
