To join the Dark Brotherhood you murder a NPC and sleep in a bed—NOT WAIT. Lucien will approach you and then you must kill Rufio at the Inn of Ill Omen. You then sleep again and he tells you apassword and you go to the boarded up abandoned house in Cheydinhal (or however it is spelled) and then you become a Dark Sister/Brother.

There is an easy way to raise your sneak level. Mine is 100. It was my 3rd mastered skill in this game. I've only been playing as my current character for a few days. ^.^

all i did was run back all the way the first time, the second i just went through the door to the actuall prison and i got out free

but you can do it this way since everytime you go into the sanctuary the guards lay off you, just dont talk to any of them for a few weeks xD

When I did this there was a guard standing in front of the jail cell. I shot the guy with an arrow and the guard didn't do anything. I had to watch this to see how you got by the guard but there wasn't one. =/

I think the last time I did this quest I pick pocketed the keys off of the guards in the entrance area for the ruin and then went back through the sewers and through imperial city to the jail area and then walked down from there ... in other words I decided to avoid the sneaking and just do the easy way.

@BillyTheToddler ya 40 is definitely good enough to do it. What race do you play as? because Khajiits get a really useful bonus which lets them see in the dark. I did it as an imperial though so this kinda proves you can do it well with any race. Goes without saying but dont use torches when guards are close lol

@BillyTheToddler 30 is not bad, as long as you wear dark clothes and stay in the shadows the guards wont catch you. Try to anticipate their paths aswell, you do kinda need patience for this quest to wait until a guard moves on

This mission is a whole lot easier if you use some sort of spell or artifact that lets you blend in using the chameleon spell. I myself use the base ring of shadows that you can get from the guy that you meet up with to get the 4th commentaries book.

Anyone else ever found the sewers or ayleid ruins scary when they first got the game? I know i did i never liked having to go in them, i even put off this quest until i got used to it. It was probably the eery green light in the sewers and some parts of the Ayleid ruins make strange noises (sometimes it sounds like wind, other parts it sounds like a wind chime)

The creaking the skeletons do get on my nerves though. If there's a whole lot of them they sound like a bunch of creaky cabinets. Drives me nuts.

When I was going through,The two people talking a ran straight into them... (Not knowing that they were there) and ran to the end having every single gaurd after me, I got the key unlocked he cell door and the gaurd killed him went out the front entrance ran away from the gaurds and completed the quest.

You don't have to sneak back the way to get out. If you pick up the prison key from the table beside the cells you can walk up the stairs and you are free to walk out into the city with no chance of being caught.
