Ive seen countless vids of the Zi8. Reviews from the States up to Germany and none of them have the Zi8 looking as bad as this. Like some other posters have remarked, this is quite Odd to say the least. It looks like you have Parkinsons.

Dude, something is horrible wrong with your uploading. I own both the zi6 and zi8, and my footage looks nothing like this. You may want to make sure you uploaded the firmware on the zi8 also, as this could be the issue. Sony bloggie sucks compared to the zi8. As I said, I use the zi8 daily, and none of my footage looks like this.. Odd.

I didn't realize how much software rendering was included in digital recordings. It seems that the camera isn't actually recording what it's receiving from the lense, but rather "stitching" the frames together in order to allow the same data to exist from one frame to another, in order to save on processing power(price, battery) and data size. Probably because they don't have an efficient data type for filing the information quickly. So I suppose none of it is really progressive scan.

i hate kodak. ive got 4 cameras from them and they all broke withing the first month. one of them was broken before i even took it out of the box. you might as well be trying to use a camera made from legos. kodak sucks.

Bogus BS - My results with the Kodak Zi8 does not even come close to what supposably is being reviewed here. But - we're all entilted to our opinions! The bottom line - check out the Zi8 for yourself - chocolote - vanilla - choose!

Due to the user guide, the image stabelisation only work on 720p 30fps an the VGA resolution.

In 1080p its not working.

From the userguide:

• The camera shake reduction function works only in [640 × 480 30P] or [1280 × 720 30P] mode.

Just in case people are "Judging the Zi8" GREY or Hazzy image in the beginning of this video its not more or less than the Sony its just that the Sony has a bit of a "Built In lens shade" because the sony's lens is "Recessed" inwards on the body of the video camera. The Kodak lens is right out there in the front of the camera so its going to get a lot of "Lens Flare" Personally this whole "Image Stabilization" is a joke why dont people just learn to hold the cam "STEADY" its not that hard..

Sony's color is too warm and oversaturated.

Sony's lens appears to be deeper, better protected from sunlight than the Kodak (the Sony is a bigger camera, it's a bag camera not really a pocket camera).

IS works only in 720p/30 mode for both cameras (but sucks up battery power).

Sony is much worse in low light.

I just want to make sure we are comparing apples to apples because I am really torn between these two models.

(I also loathe Sony's proprietary MS media and really don't want to have to go back to it after abandoning it once before, but that shouldn't make or break my decision.) One review on Amazon says the audio on the bloggie is mono, can you confirm this? IDK, torn.

I couldn't help but notice that the Zi8 seemed to be angled higher while you were shooting your video (running 6 inches to 3 feet above the Sony's image).  It seems that your getting more direct sunlight and glare in the Zi8, explaining the washed out image. When I see you pan the grass blades the res. of the Sony seems lower- and according to Amazon Sony's SteadyShot doesn't work in 1080. It looksas if the Sony is @ 720p and Kodak is @1080p? Could you have been mistaken on the image setting?

This guy is RIGHT ON. I cannot vouch for the Sony but I had the zi8 for 8 days now and just came off a 7 day cruise, where I recorded up to 2 hrs of combined footage..

I noticed no matter how hard I tried to keep the camera still every picture still wobbled and forget even attempting to zoom.. also The colors look dead on to my images.. a lil muted.. Im still within my 14 days return and I will now try Sony ... keep u posted..

i like the option of connecting an external mic to the camera that would be the only reason that i would choose the Kodak. It visually looks better to me as well. I'm impressed with the Sony's zoom I may get one. With both camera the image stabilization really sucks if you don't want the blur i suggest using a mono pod or tri pod.

Mount them on something and do not point them the same direction as the sun. I have used the Zi6 and Zi8 and just like any other camera there are limitations. But if you place them in the right setting they work quite well.

Will be nice when these small form factor cams get exposure control, WB and manual focus.

The Bloggie MHS- CM5 has 5x optical zoom (with 20x digital), as opposed to the Zi8, which as only 4x digital, so you probably used the optical. This (the CM5) is something I'm definitely interested in buying.

Thanks for posting this! I m o, this video is a great example of how NOT to use these pocket camcorders. It seems that the best footage I've seen of these, is when they are stabilized. Although it would be nice to use them handheld w/o video issues, I've learned over the years to shoot to the cameras' strengths ONLY. Put these on tripods, for example, and it's a whole different image image quality. Obviously these are not the cameras to use for fast-motion hand-held shooting.

1 you need a tripods top base to set both cams, a peice or wood or metal.

2. panning is deffently a must, and to say you slowed down.... do a slow pann, rather edit a slow pann. fast pan for demo purposes i hear ya.

3. To say Jello effect, and not sure if less, is JELLO EFFECT, we also call it ROLLING SHUTTER.

I viewed sonys page and I love to say its looks like a digilife, svp, ispan hybrid.

We know to not shoot Sun in front, we do lol, Kodak is the better cam of a fixed lens, while the Sony is a Auto focus with 5x optical zoom.

It is best to compare this to the Aiptek Action HD GVS 5x optical cam,

At times the Zi8 looks better. I don't think the beginning of this video is a fair test by pointing the cameras toward the sun. Good side by side but not a fair test in my opinion.

Thank you so much for uploading this. The shaking on the Zi8 is pretty annoying. Though I think the Zi8 picked up the blacks a bit better like the definition of the grass. Other than that the Sony seemed better than the Kodack.
