The first caller was a douche bag. Tom said explicitly that happiness means "not being a slave to the man." Please give Tom his props. He's right. Even if you don't have money, let's all admit that we want to get the fuck off the hamster wheel and be free!
Of course if you have lots of money you will have more chance of hapiness than a guy who's broke. BUT you don't become rich over night, and you will usually have to sacrifice to get the money.
At the end of the day you can be happy and secure if you use your head and use your money well.
There are a lot of guys out there that have busted a gut for years to get rich and their health is shot, family life shot, thinking happiness is finding antidotes to their fears.
I 100 percent agree with this. The people who would normally would say that money doest make you happy are the ones that have not gone long without it. That steady paycheck from the job is coming very other week so they can't really feel what it is like to go for 3/6 months with money. Money gives you choices. I can bet that if you were to hit the jackpot of over $300 mil, most of us would not even ponder of showing up to that job we do on a daily basis. So does money make u happy? Of course!!!
I agree with Tom on about 90% of what he says. However, this is the topc i disagree with him on. The reson why women and dating are so fucked up in the USA is because we are all working over 40 hours a week to chase money and buy materialistic bullshit. My best years in life was living in Brazil and Costa Rica working (not making much money) but i was getting plenty of pussy.
I'll tell you what I think: I think that we middle class people love stories about people who had it all and still were unhappy because it makes us feel less bad about our financial situation. Think about it, we love stories about how one guy who had everything against him made it to the top against all odds and we love stories about multimillionairs who hate their lives. But we don't hear about the MAJORITY of rich people who wouldn't change their lives for anything.
but really, you cannot measure someone's happiness by going by a survey. come on people. Especially with this whole optimism thing going on in America. people want to appear like they got their shit going on so people think they got their a-game running tight.
I agree, but I also disagree, and ultimately the disagree side wins. I chase money, I have money, but I have been happier and I've had better luck with women in the past. I am well aware that I must be doing something wrong but I just don't know how to fix it. I spend way too much time working and making money, than meeting people. Even new people I do meet don't think I have money, but I do. I don't want to surround myself with people who like me for my money either.
Money CAN buy you happiness if you know what your doing, or it can get you into more problems if you don't know what you're doing. Money does one thing: IT'S A TOOL THAT GIVE THE FREEDOM TO MAKE MORE CHOICES! What you do with those choices will pretty much determine your happiness! Will Money buy a Smoker happiness?-- will if the smoker uses the money to invest it in treatment so he can overcome his smoking addiction that it has, but he spends it on more cigarettes he'll be less happy!
Lemme guess, you also believe that tired old story that rich people are lonely, rich people are miserable... you poor fucks NEED to tell yourselves that so you can lift your head off the pillow each morning!
It makes much more sense to me to listen to a rich person about what it's like to be rich, than hear the whiny, jealous crybabying about how much they envy Tom Leykis and his money, power, and fame.
Money doesn't Buy you Happiness, it just gives you more freedom want to do.

Money gives you the option and the choice,"better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it"

Money doesn't buy happiness. It's what you do with it that gives you happiness. That doesn't include spending it all on women.

I understand Tom's point. I think what he means is that happiness is freedom. The less answering we have to do to other people, the happier we are.

No. A sense of accomplishment brings me happiness. Money is just a nice side effect.
Graduating college and scoring a nice job made me happy. The nice salary that came with it was a side effect.

@phirephate ok that makes sense, but what is the "nice side effect"

To all boys (not men, as men already know this):
Don't chase women. DON'T CHASE WOMEN! If you chase women, you'll have neither money nor women.
If you chase MONEY, you WILL have money... AND WOMEN!!
