The tune wasn't composed for the movie..it was written in 1955 and originally called Feudin' Banjos and played on 2 Banjos.

They just changed things a little for the movie.

Must say I've never been so anal as to worry about the title..I just enjoy the music.

It's impossible to watch this scene now that I know that the kid didn't actually play the banjo. If you didn't know, they used camera tricks, it's somebody else's arms playing the actual banjo, the actor who plays the kid is just sitting there. It's kind of creepy to look at, and you'll notice how stiff the kid is. He never moves pretty much.
