Also, calluses help protect your hands, and here's something: You're a man. Why are you averse to having them? Do you want preteen boy hands? Gloves weaken your grip just as belts weaken your core.
For me, the issue isn't about callouses or grip. It's about skin infections. You have hundreds of sweaty people all grabbing at the same set of weights, getting their fluids all over everything and not sanitizing every weight after each use. Grabbing a dumbbell that's covered in some sweaty dude's essence is not something I want from my workout.

If anything, the textured surface of some types of gloves will improve grip by increasing friction. I tend to be able to do more reps when I wear gloves because my skin won't be ripping off my hands.

Cool vid. I'm new to youtube videos and yours looks good. Just fyi - thicker bars enhance grips strength so your logic is wrong. But it will be detrimental to your lift if you are concentrating on you're grip too much - but this only really matters when you are doing heavy pulling movements - in which case you would use straps. So it really is no big deal to use gloves for most of your lifts. I think a bigger controversy is using straps. Nice quick vid though.

@davethedm I'm a serious mountain bike, bmx racer/rider and a plumber. I'm not worried about anything but preserving my wrists. I use to have to stop my workouts due to wrist pain. I think the problems started by lifting too much in high school. I use the wrap style gloves and haven't had pain from working out since. What do you mean by "your strength goes down", I'm not getting the full workout or it's detrimental?

I wear gloves, because if i dont, i end up with fucking great blisters on my palms. I dont youse quarter inch thich gloves so the diameter of the bars isnt that much difference. I am a biker too, riding a bike isnt nice with no skin on your palms!

It kinda is better to not use gloves while working out. When you use gloves to lift weights, you might be able to lift more, but at the same time you're not building up your grip strength.

man i havent had gloves for like 5 workouts and on my last workout i had to do all my sets with my skin all fucked up hurting and burning like shit man, all those cuts open dripping blood all over the dumbbells, i was fucking slipping on puddles of my own blood man. That shit was nasty i lost 2 fingers that day doing some deadlifts, the bar would just slip off my hand cuz of the blood lubrication. My advice is, WEAR GLOVES

i don't use gloves only while going heavy on bench... ...beucase like he said it is a bit easier without gloves... ...but on the other hand - you have to work that much harder with gloves and i am not affraid of a hard work out... ...for a 1rm - without gloves, for 10 reps - with gloves...
