This is really tricky for the singers, because, when you hear just his voice you can see that they don't have one mistake in singing, allthough you expect mistakes, right? And that is perfection! Imagine if you can sing a song with not one mistake, and he does it so easy.
Well, I just think it's hard to do that, because when you sing with the music, if you know how to work with it, you can cover your mistakes with it.

@Doika86 Well, I think that their music is hellishly lame today compared to their 80's and 90's songs. But yes, I've heard a lot of talk about Jovi's new diva attitude: I'm not completely sure about what he has done but people have started to respect Richie more than him.

Most of these people record their music, they almost never pan the music to the left or the right, it's usually straight down the middle, so a program like Ableton Live (Free) and using a compressor or two on there to isolate only the middle sound waves could probably isolate the vocals from most of these older songs. Ableton is free as a demo (no limits on how many times you use it), and if you download a sound recorder that records any sound that comes through you computer, your in business.
in recording studios you wear headphones that are playing the music that you are playing/singing along with. often if the volume is high on them they will "bleed" through and be recorded. from the vocal mic. it's not uncommon at all.

I think if you put it through some eq filters and a compressor or two, you can actually have something very close to studio-quality.
Great track though, I'm definitely sampling this, flip it house or trance/house/progressive.
