  • I have a 95 saturn sc2, I changed the trans filter yesterday and noticed the 2 connectors that connect next to the filter, the wires where really in bad shape. where can I get new wires or connectors for my car?

  • @firemanCV just wanted to say thankl you for saveing me almost 2200 dollars in labor cost. My wife has a Saturn and with the help of your vid I was able to fix the tranny myself. Thank you again the main reason i keep the car is it is good on gas and already replaced everything from the alternator to the radiator. But now was wandering do you know about replaceing the timing chain on a 97 Saturn SL2 1.9 DOHC? N-E suggestions would be appreciated. Also thank you again.

  • @TennesseeHillbilly85

Glad to see your from Tennessee like me :)

Is there a reason your replacing it ?

I have seen saturns go 200,000 miles and more without replacing them.

    I know, I have 4 of them,lol

I have a video, that I need to put together just for timing chain replacement.

It's a pain to do, but can be done in a short amount of time..

Did u visit saturnfansdotcom at all?

I will have a video within a couple weeks or so.

  • Just a big thank you to FiremanCV, excellent video, excellent explanation. Really was a huge help when I replaced the valve body on my Saturn.

Thanks again, you did a terrific job.

  • @fireman did u drain the fluid prior to doin this?

  • @omarG19100

No , no need to drain it.

Is a good idea to use new filter & fluid :)

  • @firemanCV can u tell me how would u remove the connector from from ythe tranny if its stuck? i over tighten it and cant get it to come off.

  • @59racers man im having issues myself lol. i changed the solenoids and now its worse than b 4. ppl say that if u change the trottle position sensor that will cure shifting issues too. if i was u i'll give it a try.

  • @FiremanCV if (D) isn't a gear than it wouldn't strip nuttin by shifting hard like that right?

  • @omarG19100

Look at link up above for saturnfans and look on that website for reverse slam cure

  • @omarG19100 my saturn will not shift down at lights or pulling a steep hill. even if you put shifter in 1st or 2nd it always takes off in drive. it does not seem to be slipping. i pulled tranny cover and checked those five soleniods and they all read 4.6 to 4.7. what else could cause tranny not to shift down. i also cleaned all ground connections.

  • @firemanCV then from (D)-(R)=FINE, (D)-(3)=FINE. its only (R)-(D) that slams.

  • @firemanCV no its not slamming in reverse at all only (D). this is wht it does. FROM (P)-(D)=FINE, (R)-(D)=SLAM. AND EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE WHEN I SHIFT IF I LET UP OFF THE BRAKE A LIL IT WONT BE AS HARSH.

  • @FiremanCV ok i got the wire off and the bolt to the battery tray finally. i wanted to switch out a few solanoids manily the one for shift/drive because thats the gear that slams mostly, but i dont kno which one. i would do all but $ is tight and those lil things cost. is there a certain one or i could tell jus by inspecting them 0_o?

  • @omarG19100

You may have more than one that is bad

Look at my other videos on how to test them.

Best thing to do, is use a grab your multimeter & head to the junk yard or salvage yard & test another transmission.

I know this is a lot of work, but if your limited on funds , then this would be your cheapest alternative..

Is it slamming in reverse at all ?

  • @firemanCV where is the input, and output nuts?

  • @omarG19100

    Not shown in this video..

I will be making a video shortly on that.

  • A great public service you have done! I just purchased a 99 sl that seems to drive and shift a-ok. However I get a P0741 overdrive ckt code on the obd. Could this be one of the other sensors or a valve body? The car had a broken flywheel and I am replacing it as well as a new TC just for good measure. Thank you again!

  • @kidshowsnet

    Test all your solenoids.

Look at my other videos for instructions on how to do this..

Also, look at the link above for saturnfans for more info..

Lots of people have had similar problem..

  • i am interested in buying a 99 yr model one thing i had a problem about is that when shifting from third to secondond to turn right i had to go reallly slow to put into gear what is up with that the guy said it was that they made it that way so it can't be raced around what to you think pleae let me know asap thanks

  • Did you replace the valve body because of hard shifting? I have a 2001 Saturn SL1 which is hard shifting and has 'reverse slam' problems.

  • @KangenWaterAmerica

Yes I had hard shifting & reverse slam problems.

Replaced valve body & car drove like it was new..

  • @KangenWaterAmerica I had the same problem just got my car back today. They had to Rebuild the transmission with, so 1 assembly kit, new filter and fluid, a reconditioned Torque Converter, a new valve body assembly. So like 2400 bucks total :( damn you saturn!

  • @pfmsound

Sorry for the delay in my reply

1st of all, if you don't skin your knuckles, your not a good mechanic, LMAO...

Did you disconnect the battery for a while to allow the computer to reset shifting patterns?

Some Saturn's are really picky, and need to relearn shifting patterns :(

Did you check all your solenoids in the valve body to see if they are within limits ?

  • Before you decide to remove your valve body, make sure you test your solenoids.

Check out my other videos on how to test them.

No sense in replacing valve body if theres nothing wrong with it..

  • Glad it was a help :)

  • Very informative videos. I have to replace the taat in my 97 sc2, this weekend. Came across this how to video to learn up on it. Just wanted to say thanks for the step by step how too. It's appreciated.

  • Nice video. 5/16 inch is very close to 8mm, which is the size of the battery terminal bolts. 8mm is 0.002 inch larger than 5/16 inch, which is practically identical with manufacturing variations.

  • @qx773

    Thanks for the kind comment..

If I specified 8mm for battery terminal removal, someone would have corrected me fast, lol
